NJelksmaker, thanks for the info. Yeah, I think I need a road trip to check out some glass. I'm easy to please. Just need it to work without flaws.

Thanks again. Whats your thoughts on mounting a Nightforce 2.5-10 NXS like this one on a Rem 700 long action. Thanks I think the Talley LW are available where both rings are extended maybe that would help with mounting the NF 2x10x42 on a long action without having to use a picatinny rail, maybe someone in the know will chime in!

Yeah, I was thinking, if I went with that scope and Talley LW mounts I would need the extended style.
Thanks for your input.
Take care

Yes Sir, that 260 looks nice. The scope on there looks to balance real well. I'm sure it works just fine.

I just ordered a new VX-6 2-12x42mm with the new FireDot Wind-Plex reticle. Leupold's website states it is a A 10 MOA Wind hold Reticle with FireDot. Has anyone played with one yet?

Heard about it. Doubt many have seen it as that's a brand new offering.
I'm interested in your assessment of the Wind hold reticle. Sounds like a good thing. My std. duplex 2-12 is probably my favorite scope.

Nightforce has the game locked up in that regards. As far as the VX6's- they have been better than VX3's, 2's, etc., but still have seen too many issues and they are not reliable enough in my experience.

I'm not a long range hunter, as I enjoy getting close to game.
I was thinking about a scope with turrets for some fun shooting at target afar.
Not really wanting a scope at 32oz. About 20-22 oz max.
Thanks
Since that is your criteria, that 2-12 VX6 will be a great rig, all 16.8 oz of it. I'm not a huge spinner either, just tinker with it. I've got almost 400 rounds down my 7mag/160's/150's out to 900 yds, back to 200 yard zero, and everywhere in between. It's been perfect so far. Tikka 695 7mm Rem Mag [img:left] [/img]

JG won't toot his own horn... But, I can... Check this link for what a good hunter with a Tikka 7RM/160 NAB's and a VX-6 2-12x42 can accomplish... Of course, we can't give the scope all the credit... DF http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/8867802/1

I have a vx6 3x18x44 on one of my elk hunting rigs. Great glass only thing I do not like is the side focus. I carry my gun on a safari sling, and the dang focus is always turned up to infinity.

I recently bought a VX-6 1x6 illuminated that will go brown bear hunting this spring on either a .375/338 or a .458 Win Mag. Had it out a few times working on loads and so far I'm very happy. Nice and clear and unlike the VX III scopes, I can adjust the eyepiece so that I get a nice clear picture and reticle without wearing my glasses. It's a bit heavier than I like, but those two calibers can use the extra weight.
Phil Plus 1. I bought this same scope for my Dakota 76 in .416 Rigby and I have to agree. I hope to be posting photos this fall with a Cape Buffalo in the foreground and me posing behind it. If it is me in the foreground, and the Cape Buffalo on top, then maybe it wasn't so good. donsm70

Gotta wonder why the desire for 2-12x scope, considering the above. I can't imagine a 6x42 not being a simple solution. YMMV

2X is very nice for off hand shooting, 12X is very nice for longer range shots. The CDS is handy for shots over 400 yds.
The VX-6 duplex is one of the best, the glass is super, the eyebox, generous.
What's not to like.
Nothing against the FX-3 6x42, even with an M1. Great glass, good ER, tough scope, fewer moving parts, lighter, sleeker. It just won't go 2X to 12X.

6x works close and far. He said he likes to get close. It's no trick to hit beer cans at 500 yards with a 6x. Deer tend to be a little bigger, even if the beer can is a 40 ounce Olde E...

That was a 3.5-10x, I doubt I had it dialed all the way up, I really don't remember. I tended to shoot a bunch with things at 6x'ish
