I am in the market for a nice lightweight and accurate 300 win mag hunting rifle. I am not going to say money is not an object becouse it is. I can afford a nice production rifle such as a sako or such but a full custom is definitely out of my price range. What are some suggestions?

I've been happy with the two Montana Rifle Company rifles I picked up. The price was $1120 for stainless and synthetic including shipping and transfer fees to my FFL. They come bedded, ready to shoot, and have proven to be very accurate with no tweaks needed. They weigh 7# +/-, which for a mag will add some comfort to shooting it.

I am kinda biased towards Savage. I have a model 14 Classic 300 WSM that shoots sub MOA with my hand loads. Never shot factory ammo, so can't vouch for that. And, they aren't going to break the bank.

Tikka superlight would be best bang for the buck.

MRC or older (American made) Winchester model 70 Extreme Weather would be my top picks for a "nice lightweight" rifle. If I were buying one for myself, I'd be more inclined to get a 5 or 6 digit classic stainless or CM sporter, or even a stainless laminated Ruger m77 mkII...Just how I roll though..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Tikka superlight would be best bang for the buck. For the money nothing comes close to this rifle. And its reasonably light. I would just fit a Limbsaver to make it a little more comfortable to shoot….

I have never heard of this company before today. I just looked at their website and some of their stuff does in fact look nice. What type of accuracy have you gotten out of your rifles?

I have been looking for a Remington XCR II in 300 Win Mag and have had no luck locating one. They seem to be hard to find.

I've got a Winchester mod 70 Classic Stainless with black synthetic stock (factory) I was thinking about selling. PM me if you might be interested. Thinking $800 shipped, so that should answer most of the questions. Good shape, bought it on a whim and haven't shot it.

I wouldn't own a light 300 win magnum...
Nor would I. Folks can say what ever they please about stock design and absorbed recoil, but a 7 lb 300 WM with full power 180 gr handloads gives me a good jolt and my 300 weighs close to 9 lbs ready to roll. I had a part time job years ago at out LGS and a guy came in with a brand new Borden 300 WSM that he pulled the trigger on 9 times and wanted to sell it. As Boxer/Big Stick says, " as recoil goes up, trigger time goes down.".......

The weatherby vanguard aka howa 1500 is very nice. They come with a adjustable trigger, and with the money you save over more expensive rifles you could buy a nice scope and have the action glass bedded and barrel floated. They are fairly heavy, but I don't think id want to shoot a light weight 300 win mag personally

Well OP in your shoes , I'd just visit several LGS and you will find more than a few 300 Win Mags lightly used for sale, none of them will be wore out and most will be priced at what will be a savings over new. The fact is most who buy 300 Wins find out inside 2-3 boxes that they are not 300 Win shooters. Their loss your gain. Magnum Man

"Lightweight" and "300 Win Mag" is an oxymoron.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Right on Bob, My 1 st was a PF M70 in a B&C Carbelite stock I picked up used as it wasn't D&T'ed for iron sights, I knew it started life as a Brownell's barreled action, the previous owner hadn't bedded it at all. So I did with Brownell's Acraglas gel kit. The B&C Carbelite stock fit well but it's forend will twist under the slightest pressure, it took me awhile to figure what was throwing my shots occ. So glassed it all and with a scope wallah 10lb rifle. The next was a 1st gen M700 ss with their injection molded stock I bought for all weather use. Recoil was bad enuf to make apreacher cuss. A Sims pad has now fixed that. I don't like muzzle breaks so I won't go there. but the point is300's kick enough without trying to do them in a light weight rifle and telling everyone how great that is.
