<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />I'm rebarreling one of my Husqvarna Imperials [a .270 win] to 9.3X62 to take to africa on a plains game hunt. I plan to experiment with Swift A Frames, Nosler PT's, etc. The only manual I have that has any 9.3X62 data is Nosler. I'd appreciate any load data [and opinions] ya'll have and are willing to share.

Ramshot Big Game works great with 286's. Usually around 63-65 grains will get 2400+ and fine accuracy. Charlie Sisk and I pressure-tested this load with Nosler Partitions and it is safe. My own CZ 550 gets 2475 with this load and it really does the job on about anything.

The 286 Partition, by the way, has the partition further forward than most Noslers, so retains at least 85% of its weight and usually more like 90%. It will really penetrate.

Thanks Mule Deer...by the way, my Dad once held a benchrest record shooting Sisk bullets, they were made in Iowa Park TX in the fifties and sixties....is there any connection between Charlie Sisk and those bullet makers?

I use 65gr of Ramshot BigGame with 286gr Partitions in my CZ 550 American. Avg. velocity of 2454 and extremely accurate. Last time at the range was .309 inch group at 100 yards. R-15 is also very popular as well. I found BigGame to be faster and more accurate.

BF or MD: Do either of you have any first hand or second hand knowledge of the Sako 75 (any flavor) in 9.3x62? The stainless steel and laminated stock version has my eye! Thoughts on the Sako action for thin skinned dangerous game?

Thanks,

Scott

P.S. Sorry for the slight highjack.

SWJ,
Sorry, but I have no experience with Sako rifles. I've never owned one.

The only Sako 75 I've had much experience with was the stainless/synthetic lightweight in .308. It shot like crazy, everything from factory to handloads in AT MOST .7".

Don't know why it wouldn't work on dangerous game, as long as the action fed and ejected smoothly. My own feeling about controlled-feed actions is that while they're nice, I've seen just about as many screw-ups when using them as when using push-feeds. In other words, dependability depends more on the individual operator and action than style of action.

Also, before 1990 (when Winchester brought back the CRF Model 70) the whole debate was almost non-existent. I doubt if one of of 1000 hunters knew what the hell CRF was, and why it was supposed to be a good thing. Then all of a sudden, half the new rifles being introduced were CRF, and you couldn't risk shooting a whitetail without one.

I used H4895, Partitions and Speers in a CZ 550 on feral cattle. Noslers hit like Thor's hammer. I don't like recoil, so I stopped at 2,350 fps.

250 grs Swift.

60-62 grs Vithuavori N 150
59-61 grs Norma 203B

286 grs bullets I normally load with 60 grs Vithuavori N 150. Gives about 2460 feet/sec.

I used the 250 gr X in my 9.3x62 with steller performance in Africa on fairly long range springbuck to up very close eland. I loaded it over a compressed charge of VV-N550 that went 2650 fps in my 24" FN. Superbly accurate as well though if I were starting today I would go with the TSX.

I posted this information on a big bore thread but I wanted to post it over here as well. I sent an e-mail to Ramshot this morning to see if they had any load data for the 9.3X62 using their Big Game powder. Their ballistician, Johan Loubser, sent me the following information:

Caliber: 9.3x62 Mauser

Barrel length: 24

Powder: Ramshot - BIG GAME (1st Choice)

Bullet weight: 232 grains.

Start load: 60.0grains (2400 2500 ft/p/sec)
Maximum load: 65.0grains (2650 2750 Ft/p/sec).

Bullet weight: 250 grains.

Start load: 58.0grains (2300 2400 ft/p/sec)
Maximum load: 63.5grains (2550 2650 Ft/p/sec).

Bullet weight: 275/285grains.

Start load: 56.0grains (22502350 ft/p/sec)
Maximum load: 62.0grains (2450 2550 Ft/p/sec).

Bullet weight: 290/300grains.

Start load: 54.0grains (2200 - 2300 ft/p/sec)
Maximum load: 59.0 grains (2400-2500ft/p/sec).

Bullet weight: 320 grains.

Start load: 53.0grains (2100 - 2200 ft/p/sec)
Maximum load: 58.0 grains (2300-2400ft/p/sec).

NOTES:
It important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.
1. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM START LOAD.
2. If at all possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.

Nosler's loads with the 286 Partition and RL15 seem to be the ticket in my CZ550FS. 57.5grs. give about 2300 fps with its 20" barrel with both the partitions and Hornady Interlocks. Accuracy is sub one inch with 3 shot groups, and case life has been exceptional with 14 loads with one batch. Ramshot Big Game shows potential, but I have just started working with it. I hope to take my 9.3 hunting soon, I'm eager to see its effectiveness in the field.

For my Alaskan Grizzly hunt this past Sept I settled on 65.9 gr of Big Game with the Nosler 286 gr Partitions. I seat them long to reduce pressure and yet still had plenty of room in the CZ550 mag. Accuracay was just over 1 MOA, but velocity was 2497 fps. Use Lapua brass and WLR primers.

Ended up taking a large bull moose w/ my 45 LC @ 15 yds. whistle
