I seem to recall there once being one. Yes, no? If no, why? It would seem to be the ideal place for those that find such an important thing to chat about. Really no different than those into BPCR or cast bullet reloading?

Yep, 'Christ at the Campfire'

It may or may not be a 'private forum' now. Rick shut it down because it really was a piranha tank.

Does rampant anti-Semitism, Catholic hatred and bashing to an embarrassing level, and general assholishness unbecoming of even this forum give you a clue?

The "christians" demanded their own little place where they could have "fellowship"; Rick gave it to them; they turned into a cross between the Inquisition, a Klan revival, and StormFront; Rick made it private and out of public view in order to try to appease the "christians" while not having his site blacklisted by any decent sponsor. Whether it survives at this point is a mystery, but given the recent trends in the Hunter's Campfire I would tend to think it finally got 86'd.

Seemed there was a BUNCH of Catholic bashing, and the owner of this site is Catholic.

Yea, Sean summed it up quite nicely.

Christ at the Campfire made the Kurd/ISIS fighting look like a Boy Scout jamboree....

The wailing and gnashing of teeth will commence shortly, without fail.

The private forum is still there... I just looked in the back door... looks like few use it anymore because of attrition.

Most threads about religion that appear on THIS forum give a clue as to content in the thread title.

Pretty simple to just not open them if you don't like the topic.

Are you "offended" by "For Sale" threads that occasionally appear here instead of the Classifieds?

Or members posting HERE about a new custom rifle they are building instead of on the dedicated forum?

I don't care anything about car racing or basketball and very little for the NFL. When I see a thread about any of them I don't open it and I certainly don't post comments expressing how much I think those sports suck. Hint.

Puzzles me why the same thing can't apply to "religion" or anything else.

Here's a hint: because this is a business (i.e., Rick receives revenue from it and is legally responsible for it).

For the same reason that porn is yanked off of here, as well as some of the more egregious racism and other filth that pops up from time to time, religious threads get scrutiny because it can and does potentially threaten his business and his legal responsibility. The type of stuff that was posted under "religious" threads that lead to the making of CATC not visible to the public (and seems to be cropping up again) directly threatened Rick's business relationship with sponsors and possibly him personally for at least implicitly condoning such activities on his site.

Now, when NASCAR or the NFL or basketball threads start doing the same then they'll get the same scrutiny and treatment.

As slow as I am Steelhead you answered a question about 4ager for me. Now even I'll will remember. How in the world would 4 ager know so much about this site and the past and be only 4 years old.
I don't think I even remember seeing the Christ at the CF area.

I don't open them but just wanted to recall if my memory was right. Why the hell would those not enthused by a topic not want to huddle around it? As I wrote, like bullet casting.

It seems to me, that everyone has an opinion on religion, even when they don't believe in it. miles

Threads up here get more views and responses quicker up here. I keep my religion discussions to pm. There is a sports section in the misc down at bottom. Where is this private forum? Never seen them, or maybe my post count isn't high enough. Doesn't sound like I'm missing much anyway.

No one, just by virtue of being born, is forced into a choice regarding bullet casting. Not everyone is equally qualified to hold an opinion about bullet casting. No one sees themselves as being mandated to convince others of the virtue of bullet casing. Finally, there is no cheering section when the topic is bullet casting.

I remember the conversations BEFORE there was a dedicated Christian forum, WHEN the forum was created, When it was elevated and called "Top 'O' The Heap" because it occupied the first spot in the list of forums, When it was changed to CATC, and SINCE it was changed to a private "chat room" [I wasn't invited, btw grin ] and I can tell you this:

The way it is now, with religion threads open to public view, is the best solution for Rick and the members. Self moderation has been the hallmark of the 'fire since its creation.

Well I have been here less than you and I have seen it. Not much fellowship going on as I recall. If you poke around some of the members postings you can find it. Not sure if you post on there until your "invited". Not sure who can do that either.
