JGRaider, that's what I was seeing with the 150 grain .308 SST, out of a .308, and not running max loads.

To be fair, distance to the animal was short, so all that it means is that the bullet was not suitable for my type of hunting. But after 3 animals, I sensed I was seeing a trend...

Would a 180 SST be "beefier" than a 150 SST, say in .30 cal?
If so, would it be less explosive in a deer?

My friend took a 6x6 bull elk with factory Hornady make 300 Win 180 SST ammo. Shot it less than 60 yards and dropped him on the spot. Honestly have no idea how the bullets acted because he is not "into that ballistics stuff".

GMX are Monolithic not a bonded core bullet. No lead to bond.

Thinking of the interbond?

Beefing them up means thicker jackets and a more aggressive Interlock ring.

Now the Interbond is bonded (lead and Jacket) and the GMX is Gilded metal with mostly copper .

I've had good results with superformance 165 sst in my 30-06. 9 whitetails, all less than 50 yards and deer did not travel very far (5-10 yards). I did not notice any excessive damage but I do aim behind the shoulder. I switched to the sst from the interbond since I hunt in close to neighbors property and don't want them running. Accuracy it good and I am happy with their results.

My son and I have stopped using the 139 grain superperformance load in 7mm08. We sighted the browning A bolt with 22 inch barrel in and grouped good.
We hunt over food plots and we tend to shoot late as in right at black dark! He shot at a hog at last light and said he was blinded by the muzzel flash. I thought he was kidding. I used it the next weekend. I had 6 deer in a large 4 acre food plot. When I shot I was blinded by the flash and when I cound see again all the deer were gone from the plot. We changed loads to Winchester 140 grain power points and they do not have the muzzle flash.
You might want to shoot the Superperformance late in the day before you hunt with it.

Except for fox, raccoon, and opossum, legal shooting light in Alabama is daylight only. Is the flash really that bad in the daylight on the Superformance stuff?

I have used the SST's in my 6mm and .243 on paper only. Accuracy was good, and seemed to be a bit better than the BTSP interlocks (6mm SST is flat base, which may account for the better accuracy). Hornady says they are basically a tipped interlock.

Yes it was . Like I said we switched back to another brand of ammo.
In Alabama the rule of thumb with the game wardens is 30 min. before sunrise to 30 min. after sun set.
MY son uses the 117 sst superperformance in 257 Roberts for several years and it doesn't do it. We have given keys to all my gates to the local wardens and we have each others number on speed dial in cell phone.

That "bombed-out" goat looks like my first one. Hit in the spine with the old Hornady 139 SP flat base 7 rem mag. Sold the rifle .... wish I still had it. Got another 7 RM now. But getting away from thumpers unless needed.

Why does a man who is 50 pounds overweight complain about a 10 pound rifle being too heavy?

I've killed 6-7 deer with 139gr SSTs out of a 280 Rem (mv chrony'd at 3000fps). Distances were 40-220 yards and while they performed well (killed quite quickly) they did damage more meat than I prefer. All deer fell within site so I never had to track one. Ones that did run left a blood trail adequate for tracking if needed.

No offense meant. I have seen flash but that sounds like a whole different level of flash.

I got much the same effect as the top picture using a 150 gr. "Barnes Burner" pushed to 3000 fps out of my 30-06. That bullet placement will certainly create gruesome exits with just about any bullet designed to open quickly at longish ranges.
