Really nice big snakes - and they taste great. What is lure/bait when you fish that way?

I would rather have alligators in the waters I fish in, than those things.

Nice fish, Jim!
Biggest I ever caught was 23 lb. The heads on them things are HUGE!!! Once you learn how to fillet them properly, they are one of the best eatin' fish you can get, especially this time of year when the water is clear and cold.

I think pike caught from cold clear water eats just as good as any walleye or perch. Just have to deal with the y bones. I have yet to catch the elusive 50 inch pike. Around a doz over 40 inches and that is in over 40 years fishing for them. Biggest was 47inces. All caught up in N Canada
Thanks for sharing

If I remember correctly, this is also (or was) a world record. Northern Pike 46 lb. 2 oz. n/a Peter Dubuc Heddon Flaptail Great Sacandaga Lake, Fulton Co. 9/15/40

The lake at the end of my road is loaded with pike, some of them pretty darned big, though I've yet to catch anything of any size. For my birthday last week my ever-loving wife gave me what I hope will be a big help to pinpointing the edges of weed beds and locating and being able to repeatedly find hot spots. One of these- Sonar, down scan and GPS with Navionics maps already installed. It's going to be a big help in trolling close to weed beds without actually getting tangled up in them. Now, if only the ice would go off the lake....

Northerns are delicious, and once you get the hang of it, removing the y-bones is easy. I would encourage returning the ones of considerable size from whence they came and eating the smaller ones, but that is strictly a personal choice.
