Altho you didn't specify, I'm guessing that you're about to completley refinish a stock. If that is the case, my own personal preference is 'Citristrip'. It's available from any of the 'Marts' or Home Depot. Comes in a transparent plastic container, orangish in color. Can be used inside, nice for winter, has no objectionable odor. Works great on polyurethanes, resin varnishes, lacquer, Some single part epoxies, and even the old Remington RMK finishes. Two really heavy coats left on for a couple of hours should do it. I use a plastic scraper or putty knife to get the worst off, carefull not to dig into the stock. Then I finish up with a course Scotchbrite pad. for heavily oil stained stocks, I use KR-2 spot remover, which is similar to Fullers Earth and apply a heavy coat on the affected area. Hit it with a heat gun and the oil will be drawn to the surface where the KR-2 absorbs it. Wait till it cools and brush off lightly with a soft brush. Further treatment with acetone may help.
P.S. you'll never get it all out, but at least it wil be presentable.
