A bit larger than the interior bears but still always fun to watch

Phil, is that a good-sized bear? A shooter? I see a lot of bears when I'm fly fishing for silvers out of Cordova, but I don't necessarily know a shooter... They almost all look big to me!
Cool photo!

That is a spring bear and his head does look large but that is the last part to loose it's heavy fur. He was massive and since I had a long and quite close look - under 10 yards for a while, I would say he was an honest 10 foot boar.

Thank you. Glad I got close.
'rat,
funny, how out of place a bear will look in a yard. The one, let us say, resting, looks comfortable and at home.
Dog is having fun?

GuyM,
you have now learned one thing about living Bears in AK already. They always show up from the right...
Just look at the pictures.

Bears are always fun to watch and for the last five years we have had this old guy walk past within a few yards of the house during the first week of July on the way to his favorite fishing hole. And then three weeks later he passes back through on the way up valley. He was looking pretty old last year And having bears as your closest neighbors means dressing a little different every time you go out. My wife Rocky had just come in to fix lunch when I snapped this photo

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend "Lonesome Dove Outfitters" and Dennis Zadra out of Cordova, AK. Didn't hunt Bear with him, but did two Mountain Goat Hunts. They know their stuff and produce. Nothing fancy, just a hard working crew that have an honest track record. http://idohuntak.com/

Seeking official "knighthood", the hopeful Sir Tim of Treadwell instead found 'nighthood' in the darkness of a bear's belly.
I hear the new "Three Bears" children's books being printed have gotten away from the usual 'porridge' once touted, and refer to 'flakes' instead, the 'just right' flake being known as Turdwell. Apparently Turdwell flakes are perfectly balanced in fat, protein, and cotton fiber.
