Having the bolt trued on any 10/22 greatly improves the accuracy.

How does yours shoot with cheap plinking ammo? Accuracy and function? Does it have a tight chamber or will it run anything?
What about Stingers? I have not tried it with any of that, I will not run unplated 22's in any of my guns. So long ass it shoots great with my Fiocchi and WW high velocity HP's I am a happy guy. I had the chance several times of late to buy a brick of Thunderbolt 22's and I passed on them. Sorry that I cannot help you there. The literature does say that these have a tight chamber, and I sure do believe them based on how the rifle shoots. I shoot unplated all the time ... one 10/22 loves Wolf MT and oddly enough the other shoots CCI Blazer really well.

In my old semi custom 10/22 I pretty much shot what was on sale.
It has a Volquartsen tension barrel.
Never any issues.
Just my 2 cents.

Mine would probably run with that stuff OK, I just have no need of trying it as i use this for shooting squirrels (gophers) and sight in with what I hunt with. Thusly, no purpose to trying lead plain round nose rounds as they do not put the "lights out, NOW" on a rodent that I prefer.
I might run a mag full or so on mine so that I can report back here for ya'lls benefit.
