My most recent 280 Ackley has a Bartlein #3. It is too heavy for a carry gun. Just fine for stationary hunting in the south. Bartlein # 3 is the equivalent of at least a #4 from other makers. Have a #3 Hart going on a full custom 280 Ackley build right now. Hart 3 seems to be lighter than some. I would not think a 5 contour would be a great fit for an all around hunting rifle.

My 280 A.I. is a #3 @23", .635 at the mizzle. I would not want is heavier for a walking around rifle. Might even go #2 if I had it to do over but definitely not a #4.

#4 Brux fluted with a .284 hole, cut to 24.5", finished .670" at the muzzle. Standard fill McM and factory bottom metal it comes in at 7.5# even points like its on a tripod. If needed I can grab the 7-08 that comes in at 7.5# with sling and 4 rounds.

Thanks Bill. The only thing I'd change is the barrel inlet. I ordered it for the barrel and it fits perfect and the smith did a amazing job on the bedding and free float. But I like a bit more float. Welcome to the fire.

Wonder how an MRC action and stock compares to a Mcmillan Classic and a Rem 700 action weight wise?

MuskegMan.....thanks for you comments. I appreciate your opinion and am glad you have made it a personal mission to thread [bleep] all of my threads. I knew a kid that acted just like you in school and everyone felt extremely sorry for him when we all found out he had been breast fed until he was sixteen.....BY HIS FATHER!!!! Please seek medical attention for your deep seeded issues. GFY . . . Just make sure the proper twist and number of flutes are vetted here before you order.

MuskegMan ........thanks for the recommendation on what I should go do to myself. I did, and now feel a lot less stressed, and relaxed! Worked like a charm! Thanks again. Now, as for the rifling, it's 9.5, is that preferred? Thanks

8.75 or 9 twist.
3 contour fluted.
I've got a GAP with Bartlein 3 contour and the barrel doesn't care if I shoot 10 shots in a row. It's still accurate and doesn't wander....

What is the 9.5 suited for 140-150????? It should shoot any hunting bullet up through the 175 gr partition. Should shoot the 168 gr VLD just fine but I wouldn't count on it shooting the 180 gr VLD.
