Looking for a wireless thermometer to put in a new to me smoker? Words of wisdom? 1st time smoking and planning on putting a pig leg in there at 225 for 1 hour/pound. Heard spraying every hour or two with apple juice and water to keep it moist is a good idea. What temp should I get it to? Sauces, glazes,???
Went and filled a growler with some milk stout to keep me warm while it does all the work! Please teach me oh masters of the smoker!

The Maverick ET732 is tough to beat, as it reads meat and pit temp remotely. I have three of them used both at home and in competition and the best thing besides the accuracy is the probes are replaceable if they fail. For sixty-ish dollars they are one of the best tools you can buy for a low and slow cook.

I've got a 733 and it's the bomb. Double checked temperature sensors and they're right on.

Yep LD. We Have a 733 in our arsenal as well and it works great, but for me the extra bells and whistles are not needed for the price difference. YMMV. Just a tip for you or anyone else with a 732 or 733, the aftermarket hybrid probes are the shizzle! They work either as a pit or meat probe and the s.s. braiding is MUCH better. We keep a couple on hand at all times. Hybrid Probe Link Mike

Thanks for the link Mike. I have two 732s and the short lines are a PIA at times when they start to get kinky.

This three bone short rib plate weighed in at 6.5 lbs so I'm thinking I'll be full this evening while watching the Coke 600. I'm trying to do this one without using the crutch to save the bark since I still have teeth that can chew through it. I'm learning these dinosaur ribs like to be treated as brisket. Mike

Mike, thanks for the link, too. Those 6 ft leads would be the cat's ass. The short 3' leads that came with mine suck.
I'm already tired of setting the base on top of the smoker or getting the Weber gas grill strategically placed so I can set it on the Weber's sideboard.

Damn man....don't do that while I have a couple hours to wait!! Nicely done my friend! The Thermapen is a must for anyone serious about bbq IMO. There are many copies, but none equal or outperform the Thermaworks products. You just have to customize them a little bit and they'll read even faster. Mike

You haven't told us which smoker you have chosen ?????? Broke down and bought a Traeger, think I got a decent deal and some freebies thrown in, nothing like the smell of hickory on that first 45 minute burn earlier today. Smoke delivering the mail to the neighbors that I was up to something good.
