I had a Faux Ti version and shot 90 Scenars in it. Liked it as a way to thwart .24 cal restrictions, but never made that far since it weighed the same as my 260 and it didnt make the cut when I cleaned out my safe.

Guys this is great information. I'm getting geared up to have a 6x45 built on a mini Mauser. I've got 2.28" in the magazine. It's got a Timney FW Supreme trigger set at about 2.25#, and I managed to find a set of Talley lightweights for it. I've talked to the guys at LAW (Bansner) and I'm gonna try to order their stock around New Years. Trying to decide between sticking with the factory bottom metal or making at a blind mag to save weight. Suggestions?

For the barrel, looking at a Pac-Nor lightweight contour or similar with a 1/2 to 3/4" cylinder length, around 20-22" long.

She'll likely be wearing a VX-3 2.5-8x36 that I have in the safe. Or maybe a fixed 4x.

Any suggestions?? Anything you'd do different?? Any pics or would ya'll care to outline your builds for comparison??

Thanks guys,

David

Mine has a 20" tube, twisted 1-8", Remington 700 SA, McMillan Edge stock (some of the pics below show the laminated stock it was in before the Edge).

With Edge stock, scope etc it weighs 6 1/2 pounds. I'd not want to suffer a Mini X mag length.

Hey Steely. Yeah you and I had this discussion a couple years ago. From what I've read and researched, I think I'll be fine for what I need it to do. This will be 200yd rifle, 95% of the time.

Actually after doing some more reading last night, I'm tempted to have the bolt face machined and buy the mag parts to go to the 6.5 Grendel. But the simplicity of the 6x45 build is keeping me leaning that way.

Thanks for the insight as always. I've been outta the game for a couple years due to business being chitty and having to pinch the proverbial pennies. Things seem to be improving some, so it's time to start working on unfinished projects, for now at least.

I could like that build a lot. That's a neat buck too.

I put a Bushnell 10 power scope on my 6x45mm. I thought I would post a few pictures. It started life as a Stevens 200. A cheap platform from which to build a coyote rifle. I paid $290CDN ($225 US) for it. Take off 25% for US value at the time.

[Linked Image]

This is a good pic of the scope, mount and recoil tang. It's attached to a Shilen CM barrel, 22 inches, 1 in 12 twist. Dednutz mount, homemade tang, Bushnell 10x40 scope.

[Linked Image]

You probably recognize the stock. It's a Choate Varmint that I picked up a few years ago cheap. $200 CDN or $150 US at the time. I installed a Timney trigger and got a bigger bolt handle from Brownells.

The whole thing was pretty cheap - $1250 before taxes.

[Linked Image]

I bought a box of Remington bulk 80 gr. bullets about 10 years ago for my 243, but use them in the 6x45mm. I'm not really sure if they still make the 80s anymore. I also am going to try some homemade 65 gr. bullets made from rimfire cases.

I just made up 100 jackets to build into 65 grain bullets to test. This is the what the jacket looks like. You can see the slight flare at the mouth and the first bit of the jacket is slightly larger in diameters to help the core seating rod move into the case without scraping the inside jacket wall.

The pic below, cartridge on right, is what the finished 6mm bullet will look like. The cartridge is actually a 65 gr. 224, but will look virtually the same.

Steve,

I have 2 , custom on a Sako Vixen Action, 1-8 Twist Benchmark fluted 21" barrel, banser stock, 6lbs 14 oz with a 3x9 36 Swarvoski scope.

[Linked Image]

And a Cooper Classic M21 3x9 Zeiss Terra .

Both shoot well with 80gr Win SP 24gr H335 and 58gr Vmax 26gr H335.

Also have used 70gr Nosler with 27gr H335 with success.

Nice looking rifle. I had thought of building a second as a carry rifle. If I do, I'll find another 223, preferably a Savage, and have at it.

You use different bullets. Which do you prefer for coyotes or other pests?

Steve,

The 58 gr Vmax for gophers, coyotes, because I have lots of them . The 80gr and 70gr I plan on using for deer .

Are you going to produce any 65 gr bullets for sale ?

Tim

For those running a 6x45 in a 700 action, what type of magazine are you using? Just standard 223 factory magazine? Or are you running longer loads with a different set up?

I'm wondering what I'll need to get to finish my build. Thanks.

My rifle weighs at least 12 lb. I built it for the bench primarily and varmints occasionally. That's why I asked about bullets. I was thinking abput a second rifle for deer.

I posted something at my site about the possibility of making and selling 224 bullets made from rimfire cases. This might include 6mm 65 gr. Bullets. I have 6mm bullet dies, but require another die. I ordered it from Corbins tonight to form the tips.

Whether they go into production will depend on how much positive email I receive from Canadian shooters. The thing is, the biggest market for them is south of the border, but it's locked out.

Just like anything else...bullets matter farrrrrrrrrrr more than headstamps.

The Vixen and others cain't hang, due to COAL. With a 700 you've many moves, whether ADL,BDL or DBM,all of which will grant a 2.500" COAL minimum.

I went 1-8" Bart' at 18.5" in a Montucky contour dupe, which is throated to kiss 105A-Max shy of 2.500" COAL,for magfed smooches at 2525fps. Haven't had it but a coupla weeks and barely have over 700rds through it,but it's a PEACH. The 'box shim slide is a breeze, especially on a 700.

700 L/A Krieger MTU 1-8" 6-06 at 23" for comparison.

[Linked Image]

18" Rock 1-8" 223AI and Lilja 21" 17Rem surrounding same. Both fed via PT&G DBM's,with AM 5-rounders as defaults and MDT 10's for herd Warfare.

[Linked Image]

5rd AM's,10rd MDT and ,10rd AICS(they are fhuqking junk) for comparison.

[Linked Image]

One can shim the OEM 700 box a bajillion ways...none of which matters,as long as it is static. Milled followers have no equal and if you Start At The Fhuqking Start, there will be no issues.

Search is your friend and the pictures are crystalline.

It's a bunch more user friendly, than my 1-8" Brux no-turn contour duped 20" Montucky 6BR,which is also a dedicated 105 Launcher. The 6x45 also holds an extry poke in the belly, which don't suck.

[Linked Image]

Shim the 6x45 box from rear and a 6BR from the front,if you are not going DBM and only go DBM in an AICS format.

Hint..................
