Got an email on my phone about close-out pricing on the trijicon huron 3x9x40 for $300......like chicken on a june bug........POUNCED all ova dat!
Call me crazy.....
Just part of living the high life......blink of the eye procurement. Chit happens fast in my world.
Should have one here by Wednesday via EuroOptic. Looking forward to see what the actual eye relief is. Probably put it on my recently acquired 6.5 Creedmoor Kimber Subalpine.
Yep, 2 day free shipping.....
Great looking scope, ultra compact, eye relief is a little strange but mainly on 3-4x. The only flaw for me and why I’m selling mine is the small fov. Great glass though.

Did the FOV cause you problems hunting?
Im thinking this scope will end up on a ruger hawkeye 3006......that may have the shortest LOP of any bolt gun i own.......but we'll see.
Other candidates are a couple of 308 boat anchor heavy barrels or a tikka t3 lite ss 3006.
I have a Trijicon 3x9 x40. I mounted it on a 300 Weatherby and didn't get scope eye shooting it.
For a while.
Been tempted as well.
Spotty eye relief and small FOV. Any other reviews?
No nekked rifles currently.......gonna have to put a scope on waivers......
My meopta 4.5x14x50 #4 reticle meopros (2) have fine cross hairs that disappear in low light.....otherwise great scopes.
Zeiss conquest 3x9x40......usa assembled......stong plex reticle.
17 yo nikon monarch, Philippine......2.5x10x42....no complaints.....
Dam.....may have to buy another gun.
Mine had great color and micro contrast, or pop as some call it. As to the eyebox it’s just strange on the low powers, 5-7 tend to be the sweet spot. A bud had a Burris ff2 4.5-14 that I preferred optically except for color and the small size.
It’s definitely worth the $300 but thats the top I’d pay for one. The Trijicon also has a more classic finish that the tenmile or credo, more of a sheen finish like a Zeiss diavari which I really liked.
It’s also a perfect size scope imo, looks great, good glass and bright, again the only complaint for me was the eyebox and fov.
I got one of these from Europtic. they have been at this price since before Christmas...for $300 the Huron is a great scope, mine tracks very well and glass is excellent with bright clear optics, eye relief on mine is good but the eyebox is somewhat tighter than say the eyebox on a Leupold VX3 or Swarovski Z3...My only real gripe with the $300 Europtic Huron is i dont care for the BDC reticle, i would much rather have a plain old duplex reticle but for $300 i guess i cant really complain....Hb
I see the 30mm Hurons are also discounted heavily. I've read on here that the large ocular can sometimes be a problem with bolt clearance. Anybody got a Huron 30mm on Model 70? Also, how do the 30mm Hurons stack up as far as durability/retention of zero compared to Accupoints? Thanks.
I have a Trijicon 3x9 x40. I mounted it on a 300 Weatherby and didn't get scope eye shooting it.
I have an Accupoint 3-9x40 with duplex and dot. Mine is on a pre-64 FWT .358 Win. Doesn’t kick like your .300 Win Mag. Nevertheless, I see no issues with FOV or ER. Glass is every bit as good as a VX-3i, if not a tad better. Good solid, well made scopes. No experience with Hurons.
DF
I handled a Huron at a local store. The eye relief at 9X is a no go for me. Eye box was meh. Glass was very good. I assume it will track accurately. Seems Trijicon has that down.
I have a 3-9 Accupoint in the box, along with a $100 FF E1 3-9x50, plus a SS 1-4, so I’ll leave them for the next guy.
I feel another optical Chinese fire drill coming on…..
I just measured the eye relief on my 3-9X Huron that arrived today.
2 3/4" at 9X (spec is 2.5")
3 3/4" at 3X (spec is 3.7")
It will be fine on my Kimber Mountain Ascent 6.5 Creedmoor.

It's packed in my truck for a trip to the range tomorrow. Standard factory Montana LOP.

Then again, I pretty much leave everything at 6x. It's only that I find, what some people can get along with at a bench doesn't transfer over when you have 5 layers of clothing on and shooting offhand.

Nothing about being great. Franky, I only focus on putting center of the crosshairs as needed for the shot. I have not had FOV to be an issue and I know I have taken many shots without a full FOV. I do not shoot at running game.

I guess the only way to know for sure is for me to try, thanks. I ordered one this morning, it will either go on a compact 223 or a compact 350 Legend.

Mounted and zeroed ( in 5 shots) on a howa 1500 heavy barrel 20" .308. A gun I typically deer hunt with in timber.
This latest transaction has freed up a leupold FX3 6x42 (purchased a year ago) . The leupy may be excellent glass, but clicks dont feel as sharp, and the eye relief adj ring doesnt stay reliably locked in. Read a lot of good things about fixed power scopes and thought I'd get the FX3. I did take a deer with it......but Ive been selling older nikon monarch level scopes that felt more durable. ....with adjustments that sounded and felt stronger.

You were correct, ER is a non-issue. I ordered one Saturday morning and it arrived today. My non-scientific method says it's better than my Burris FFII 3-9x in the ER department.

A lot of times, that creates issues getting behind the scope and finding the target quickly. I'm not sure if he means that, but I've seen it and hated that with some scopes. Target acquisition should be instant, when hunting, without any effort. If you are searching to find the image through the scope, it's no bueno.
Had one a while back, nice scope

Good to read.
Does anyone know if the BDC reticle is etched or not? I'm trying to decide between the BDC at $299 or pay extra to get the #4 reticle at $454.

I mounted mine on the Kimber Mountain Ascent 6.5 Creedmoor and took it out last week. I am very pleased with both the rifle and the scope. It will go hog hunting in a couple of weeks.
A bit off topic but I mounted a 3-9X Trijicon Accupoint (green post reticle) on my 375 H&H a bit ago and found the actual eye relief to be greater than indicated on their spec sheet.

It sure acts like a wire reticle. You can get the reticle to do that gold color shift with enough light behind you, I don't get that with the scopes I own that are etched.
how does the Trijicon Huron compare to the Meopta Optica 5 ? see that one is $299 as well

I wouldn't want the Huron on a rifle with 30-06 level recoil. The eye relief makes it a bit crowded.

I would have no problem with the Huron on a 30-06 Mt rifle. I am debating another one for my fairly light 9.3x62. Though chambered in the puny 6.5 Creedmoor, my Kimber Mt Ascent weighs a hair under 6# with the Huron. Zero issues.

What have you measured your Huron Eye relief as? I questioned their numbers then read what Edm posted, so I ordered on to see for myself. I have another coming this week.
Eye relief is a NON issue with the Huron and it's better than the Burris FFII 3-9x.
The 3-9x40 Huron, as seen below, was 4.25 inches at 3x and 3.2" at 9x. Conversely, the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 that I just measured was 3.8" at 3x and 3 inches at 9x.
I'm sure all here would love to see your evidence, thanks.

Possibly a Captian Obvious question but I'm assuming the zero end of the tape is the location of your forehead or eyeball?
Possibly a Captian Obvious question but I'm assuming the zero end of the tape is the location of your forehead or eyeball?
You would assume correctly. Since I only had a tape measure and not a ruler and the beam was directed at a index card taped to the wall, I had to run the tape that way.
I can't stand a short eye-relief scope and have found the FFII's a little lacking, but not horrific. I love the ER on Leupolds but they do shift a lot between power selector and I'm moving away from Leupolds on many rifles, not all.
The Huron is not an issue for me and the biggest way of judging for me is having the dang thing on a rifle and shooting. I did the flashlight thing to satisfy some of those that continue to parrot about ER.
I too was skeptical and never ordered one, based on their specs, but after seeing Edm's post and talking with him, I made the leap as there was only one way to know for certain, and so far I'm happy I did.
I'm obviously not discussing long term durability, just addressing the Eye Relief issue, or should I say, non-issue. I liked the scope so much I ordered another.
Does anyone know if the BDC reticle is etched or not? I'm trying to decide between the BDC at $299 or pay extra to get the #4 reticle at $454.
As I said earlier, I assumed wire because it will get golden with enough light behind you. I sent them and message this morning and they replied:
"All of the Huron riflescopes use a wire reticle. Please let me know if you have any more questions."
Sincerely,
Jeremy

I was scared off by the eye relief for a while. I jumped in and finally bought one for my 270. Mounting was a little tricky but reversible front and rear bases fixed that. I liked it enough to buy another one for my 30-06. Just saw they went up 30.00 now, glad I ordered when I did.
Damn guys, glad y'all are liking these. I wonder if my specimen (fondled about 2-3 years ago) was somehow different.
I bought another for my 270 Win M700 Ti.

My guess is that you are just another internet expert. Perhaps you touched one in a store for a hot minute, which then translates into you being an expert on it and parroting about the ER.

Steelhead, you simply can't shake your cundtiness can you? I never posited myself as an expert. I made it very clear the extent of my experience was handling one at my local dealer, Puglia's Sporting Goods. Eye relief remains the same after a scope is mounted, and doesn't take any real level of expertise to determine if it's suitable for the user. As a bargain hound, I am truly glad y'all scored a bargain that you are happy with and glad you are sharing it with the masses as well. That's one of the things that makes this place great.

I don't know who you think I am, but I do know that you talk about that which you know not. If you've never owned one, never mounted one, never fired a shot using one, why do you feel the need to speak about them?
I understand women love to just run their mouth, I can only assuming that you are a woman. I'm sorry you enjoy making comments about things you know not of, but please do not try to give opinions on things you know nothing of. It is embarrassing, and it should be for you as well.

These are yours, please let me know where you made it very clear the extent of your experience was handling one at your local dealer. You've been doing if for years, not mention of only fondling.
My particular favorite, and I quote "Those numbers are accurate, and the Huron and Ascent really do have noticeably short eye relief." How do you know those numbers are accurate if you clear (another fabrication) that you only fondled them a your LGS.
All this proves is what a liar you are, but I'm sure that will not stop you from doubling down. Enjoy.
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...arch/true/re-trijicon-huron#Post18234938I thought optical quality was good, but the eye relief is a non-starter. Spend a few bucks more and get the Credo
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...re-trijicon-huron-or-ascent#Post18580107I am a pretty big fan of Trijicon. If I could go back in time, all of my guns would wear them. That said, I'd skip those two models. Compare their eye relief numbers to Leupolds.
Those numbers are accurate, and the Huron and Ascent really do have noticeably short eye relief. The price is tempting, but for just a little more, the Credo 3-9x40 has much better eye relief and the illumination on it is fantastic.

The Credo 3-9 is a fantastic scope, but is a one inch fully illuminated reticle. I own 2. Very easy to get behind. Outstanding illumination control. Depending upon rifle, throw knob may get in the way of the bolt on 9X. It did on my Christensen.
A Meopta Optika 5 may be to your liking. 1 inch but checks your other boxes. Easy to get behind and good illumination control.

I've never had a Leupold fail and have used them since I was 13; I'm 75 now. I hear they don't do well when turrets get cranked. I use one as set it and leave the knobs alone and won't be turning knobs after it's sighted in. What other troubles are they having? I've used the VXII series on my 416 Rigby and on my 338. I sold the rifles and kept the scopes.
On a drilling eyebox and eye relief are especially important, since mounting scopes is seldom optimal and is usually a compromise of some sort or another. I like Leupold's eyebox and eye relief. How does the Trijicon compare?
As a whole, Leupold has the best eye relief and eye box of any scope brand that I am familiar with. Eye relief on Trijicon Huron and Ascent are noticeably short. The Credos that I have used don't measure up to the Leupolds I have used in eye box, eye relief and ease of getting behind, but they are still good.
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...ning-trijicon-which-reticle#Post16856556If you're net dead set on illumination, the Trigicon Huron checks all the boxes.
I have one on an AR. For what you're doing I'd be inclined to roll with the 2-10 or 3-12 with the BDC hunter hold reticle. It's uncluttered and works very well at least out to 400. Which is as far as I've tested it. It also has a capped elevation dial which works great. The only downside is no zero stop.
The credo gets an easy pass for me. I find the reticle way too fine for hunting and that huge eyepiece made scope mounting a chore.
The eye relief is way too short on those. Trijicon screwed the pooch on the Hurons. The size of the eye piece on my Credo 3-9x40 is a non issue. In an era of massive eye pieces, it's actually comparatively not big at all. The MOA precision hunter reticle is fine. I prefer a fine reticle though.
These are yours, please let me know where you made it very clear the extent of your experience was handling one at your local dealer.
I had to go all the way back to my first post in this thread lololololol
I handled a Huron at a local store. The eye relief at 9X is a no go for me. Eye box was meh. Glass was very good. I assume it will track accurately. Seems Trijicon has that down.
To the best of my knowledge eye relief remains the same whether I handle a scope in the store or whether I buy the scope and mount it. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, steelhead.
Let's play with another part of your fantastic research project steelhead.
I am a pretty big fan of Trijicon.

Imma try a lil bit of the really cool bold text like you did. This is the post that immediately followed that one lolololol
Agree 100%, Paul nailed it. I own a Huron and a Credo. Just Buy the Credo you will be glad you did. And to answer your question, yes they are Tough and stack up to leupold.
Enjoy your scope!

Now you are parroting other people?
This post showed up. I needed a new scope. I did a search. The constant in that search was you talking about the short ER, without ever owning one.
I even question Edm about it. I also saw he had posts and pictures of very real dead animals. I looked at your posts and only saw blah, blah, blah. I came to the conclusion that you are an internet expert and chose to listen to Edm and I ordered one (now 2).
Thankfully I didn't listen to the internet expert. Feel free to ignore me, because I guarantee I will be ignoring you on anything, unless it's how to guess without a clue.

I think Paul nailed it. Steelhead? Are you really back after all of these years? Charming as ever.
