What is going to happen to the price of Swarovski EL binoculars after January 1? They are about $200 less now than a year ago but I read where they are making changes to the new EL. Will the ones dealers still have left go down in price even more ?
2300-2500
what makes you think that?

Swaro may likely have taken the next giant step in binocular design... reputed to be perfectly sharp right to the margins.

I'll be interested when they bring out the 8x32's the following year...
Hope they keep going higher....makes mine more valuable.

From what I've heard, a look through the new Swarovisions will nearly make all other bins seem 2nd rate... just the gossip on the bird forum by those that have tested them.

Also, I noticed BR Ultravids drop in price when the HD's appeared... I honestly can't see the difference, the only real difference is the HD has a hdrophobic coating.

We shall see.

Ingwe, have seen it!

The Swarovsisions are apparently in an all together different stratosphere than any other bins... I can't wait to get my mitts on a pair.

Drop me a PM if you guys get a pair in and Dober and I will road trip up for some coffee, ballistic gack and Swaro-Swooning laugh
Yeah, I guess time will tell.
So did they change the name to Swarovision? or am I reading too much.

No, it's an entirely "new" binocular...
Oh OK.

I'll be shocked if they are light years ahead of the Zeiss FL, Ultravid HD's, Nikon SE's, Nikon EDG, etc. Optically speaking you cannot get much better than what's already available can you?
Posted By: Brad Re: Price of Swarovski Binoculars - 12/04/09
I just bought an 8x32 FL... resolution poorer than my 8x32 Ultravids, and noticeably smaller sweet spot, not to mention a too fast focus. Sold them.

I also prefer the Ultravids a bit more than the 8x32 EL's, but the Ultravids sharpness (sweet spot) still falls off at around 35% near edge in each barrel... that's pretty typical.

Swarovski has typically lagged behind Leica and, to a lesser degree Zeiss, when it comes to cutting edge innovation. Apparently the tide has turned. If the new bin is perfectly sharp all the way to the margins, lacks severe chromatic aberration, blah, blah... it's going to be one heck of a giant leap forward IMO.

Brad, have you had the pleasure of looking through the Nikon SE?
Posted By: Brad Re: Price of Swarovski Binoculars - 12/04/09
I have. GREAT glass!

The SE, being a porro, benefits by being easier to build into a pleasing view... roof's are a lot tougher.

Thru the end of this month the prices of SLC is greatly lower than what they will be January 1st when the Anniversary deals are over.
The 8.5x42 and 10x42 EL's will remain at the Anniversary prices as they are discontinued and Swarovski no longer has any. Most retailers are close to or already sold out of them. The new Swarovision version will be / is replacing them
Do the new Swarovisions have a built in tripod mount? I didn't see any mention of that in the weblinks.
That would have been smart but I see no mention of that in any of the material I have on it.
At this point I would say no. I will advise if I find out differently.
