.... keep hogging all the tropical storms and hurricanes this year?

Looks like another one is headed your way.

As usual this year, we won't even see a shower.

Stay safe!
Maybe all that Voodoo stuff is working in Louisiana's favor?
I don't think they consider them a favor at this point...
I am about over this crap.
They like gettin’ blowed?
I’m still cleaning up from Hurricane Laura....
Another Louisiana wet weekend coming up, reportedly.

Where it hits is a big deal. Whether or not one is on the “wet” side of the storm makes a difference, not that the “dry” side doesn’t get drenched, just not as bad.

Better have a generator if you live here.

Would like to pass some of this water out to you guys in the parched West. This is bad, parched and burning is worse.

After moving to Florida I conferred with my God and advised that I would prefer to see them land elsewhere.

If I leave they will be more evenly dispersed.

Flave, are you the "target" of those storms...?

Good FL folks may be more than happy to escort you to the state line... grin

I don't like rain.

It interferes with golf.

I am just sick of it!! I have worked so hard for this Saturday's muzzle season... and now this, all my hunting gear is at my camp on Bayou Patout, except my rifles... I left lots of gear on purpose this past weekend, beer, crown, gear, clothes..

I had mud on my docks for Beta too, just sick of it

I hear ya!

About the only thing worse than too much rain is not enough rain.

I live not far from the gulf, and have had two storms within touching distance, and can't buy a rain this year. frown

no schidt

the west needs the rain

although the weather guys say snow down to 6500' in Utah this weekend

about time !!!!!!
I'm getting prepared. Getting gasoline for my generator since my POS natural gas Generac gave up the ghost 6 days into a 4 week power outage resulting from Hurricane Laura.

Engine or generator crapped out ?

Yep - all of NM is in drought, our place is on the line between severe, and exceptional - last I looked.
We've had darn few semi-normal years since 1999.
Even our Raton high country got very little snow this last winter. (Think south-east of Raton Pass, on Johnson Mesa - which the weather folks now call the Johnson Ridge area.)
Was not oil. There is a fuel problem.

I feel for you my friend. I hate to admit it but 2020 is wearing me out.

The crazy thing is, that in the future, we may look back on 2020 as being a year we wished we were back in...
There is something fundamentally wrong with living in a place with that many creepie crawlies, and on a windy day you have to look UP at the waves. Of course, this from an idiot who lives where the landmass is poised to fall into the Pacific and forest fires have become the number one summer sport.

If it didn’t crater, is it repairable?

My neighbor down the way had his crater the engine on low oil is why I asked.
I suppose it can be made to run, the problem is right now, Lake Charles is still very much suffering the aftermath of Laura. 90% of all the buildings in Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake and Moss Bluff are damaged. Getting someone to work on a generator when their house has a 90' pine tree across it is not likely.
My dad just went through that part of the country and he said it's pretty fugked.

Much worse than anything portrayed on the news.

Generac does have an automatic oil pressure kill switch but I think the problem is that you are running real hard on low oil pressure before it gets low enough to cut off. It astounds me that folks never check the oil in their cars, lawnmowers, generators, tractors, or whatever. At the rate my wife's fairly new Toyota Highlander uses oil it would be in trouble before the next oil change. I believe the add mark is when it is one and a half quarts down. Doesn't even hold 5 quarts total. We just add a half quart along as it goes down.
Here's a question for the masses. How would you secure the travel trailer? My thought is that it wouldn't take much wind speed to blow it over. I am thinking about running a ratchet strap from the frame to the base of the pole bran legs. I am confident that will help stabilize the travel trailer, but would it compromise the pole barn? I will be retracting the slide in and securing the outdoor furniture.

News coverage ended when the Weather Midget left town on the day after the storm hit.

Manual augers front and back screwed down into the ground and then strapped around the back bump and front coupler frame. Tractor Supply has what you need.

That setup held mine down in Iberville Parish when the eye of hurricane Andrew went right over it.

The winds were strong enough to blow the bark off of cypress trees to where they all appeared red in color.

The European model has Lafayette taking a direct hit by Delta. Y’all south of there could encounter some serious weather.

Lafayette didn’t get hit as hard as we did in Central La. by Laura, based on visible damage to trees We may get whacked again by Delta. Lake Charles took the blunt of Laura as you know, not sure how Delta’s gonna affect them. They sure don’t need any more of that.

Gonna be glad to see 2020 gone. It’s been a crazy year. 2021’s gotta be better.

Stay safe

I wouldn't attach anything to that overhead
that you didn't want flying 200 yards away.
JMHO- at 1st opportunity, I'd get a dozen pieces
of drill stem or similar and make some steel supports
for that shed, or at least add way more wood .
Can't tell. Looks like 8 legs total for the whole thing .
My porch awning peeled off supports and all and
flew straight up about 35 feet and over the house
like it was made of paper
I'd put probably a half a dozen of the anchors
like others posted
No spot is good bit let's hope it takes a turn to the east so those hit by Laura don't get gang raped to bad. Unfortunately that puts NO in the zone, if I'm not mistaken. You guys get ready...
My son is heading to Leeville in the morning to move the boats up the bayou. And my son in law is heading home tomorrow from Lake Charles. He's been out there almost a month working on restoring the power.
You drought stricken folks can have my serving of this hurricane shit. That forecast path has me zeroed pretty well right now.
What’s going to be interesting is all the debris piles at the road becoming flying missiles in this storm. Thinking about going set all the crap piled at the road on fire.

I don’t believe that anyone has even considered that.

It's a valid point. Limbs and stuff lying around can become missiles with enough wind power.

Hopefully Delta won't blow as hard as Laura, but probably hard enough to blow a limb thru a window.

Last path prediction shows a westerly move. Any way you cut it, South Louisiana is gonna get whacked.

Of deep concern is that the weather services totally missed Laura building in wind speed pre landfall. She amped up right at landfall. Somewhat unusual.

Yeah, they're saying Delta goes Cat 4 out in the open Gulf, then hitting cooler water off shore, drops to a Cat 3. Cat 3 still is a potent storm.

The more westerly the path, the worse for us here in Cenla. Lake Charles doesn't need another one. I don't wish anything on the Eastern part of the State, have family in Lafayette and Metairie. But, I hope it doesn't veer too far West and I hope they're right about Cat 4 dropping to Cat 3 before landfall..

Their speculations haven't always been that accurate. So, we'll see what happens when it happens.

Now, a real nightmare, dreaming you have Jim Cantore standing in your yard, waving his arms, speculating where you house is gonna be by daylight.... shocked

grin

I don't understand the chart that shows it weakening before landfall...

Usually they don't weaken until after landfall.

Based on projected top wind shear,,,,if that occurs, along with cooler shallow water temperatures. Louisiana weather has been very moderate lately.

Lots of hocus pocus to calculate and then project, I guess.

Rbb, you should see the feed and fertilizer carts running up and down the highways here trying to get things planted and sowed before the rains hit. We tried to book a cart for our hunting lease and was told “get in line “.

I was gonna apply about 400 pounds of fertilizer per acre here in a field, but there's not a drop of rain in the two week forecast... still.

Guess I'll wait to do that, and plant wheat.

It’s either chicken or feathers for the farmer/stockman, ain’t it ?
Latest projection, westerly move puts Cenla in line for a direct Cat 1 hit Friday. At least it seems to be moving fast, so maybe not as much rain as it could be.

I have plenty of generator gas, truck tank topped off. Still piling up limbs from Laura, some chainsawing every evening after work. Slowly getting there. Hope this isn't gonna be that big a set back. We'll see...

Starting to blow pretty good here. Predictions are 90+ mph winds blowing right down my street about 10 tonight.

Here in St. Mary parish we are getting gust up to 70 mph. Not much rain ...... so far . My heart goes out to the people in Lake Charles. Two storms in such a short period of time has to be ROUGH .
You guys stay safe!
From what I'm seeing on radar, the eye of the storm has just made landfall. Hope everyone is ready. Gonna be a rough night.

We wont get nearly the bad weather the southern fellows will, but it's gonna get to us about 2am, with the worse hitting us about daylight, and should be about over with by 10am.

Everyone stay safe.

I am from Franklin, but live near Delcambre. It has blown pretty hard a couple of times, actually just picked up again. I think we got more wind this time than we did for Laura.

My houseboat is in the marina in Baldwin, I brought it there Tuesday. Early this week it was like a houseboat parade with everybody coming in from the marsh.

Saw a pic of some 4 lane highway and the north bound lane was solid traffic as far as you could see. Hardly any southbound traffic. I think the pic was made yesterday afternoon. My son and his family live just west of Lafayette and they jumped ship.

Hit creole.

Made a bunch of trips through there.

Caught out of the old Air Log in creole years ago.

Weatherman was talking about Iowa.

Got my only LA ticket in I-way.

They know a MS guy isn’t going to fight it. Easy money.
Help is on the way!

Lots of lineman staging. Waiting on the all clear.

These crews are part of the true unsung heroes in these storms.

Was sure glad to see 'em after Harvey. smile
Well, the storm shifted east about 30 miles from where they predicted it would go and that really helped us. Instead of the worse part of the storm just hitting us about now, for all purposes, it's about over with. Didn't get called out last night, but it may still happen once people get out and start stirring about. Didn't lose power and that's always a good thing.

Prayers sent for all the south La. people that took the brunt of the storm and the relief crews.

Good here just limbs down and a couple of fruit trees uprooted.

A buddy outside of Natchitoches has trees on his house, camper and his shop.

Buddy in Maurice came out okay.

Some Folks in Central and Baker got water from flooding in their homes according to the news.

Neighbor is soon headed to Grand Isle to check out his place.
Well boys that was an interesting ride. Ride ole Delta out in Sulphur. Lost power about 19:00. It wasn’t terrible. Early morning survey shows I got through it pretty much unscathed. On the generator. No water. Thank God it’s 65 versus 100 degrees. Today is opening of primitive deer season. Looks like I’m going to miss it. Reports out of Lake Charles are starting to come in. Looks like they took another good luck. This one was worse than Laura for the folks in SE TX.

Grand Isle only had a 2' storm surge and 35 mph winds. Almost wish we'd of left the boats down there, but taking any chances of riding a hurricane out makes absolutely no sense. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who need them.
Sounds like the few of us that have reported in this morning are ok. Glad for that. Of course, we could be the only ones that can. Hope everyone came thru this with just minimal damage.

Hard to imagine Grand Isle coming thru a storm like this with only 2' surge and low winds..... but you never can tell what's gonna happen in a hurricane.

Someone posted about the trash piles in Lake Charles and other areas from Laura becoming missiles during this storm. I'm not sure about now, but 40+ years ago, it was against the law in New Iberia to have palm trees that grow coconuts. A coconut would be like a cannon ball during a hurricane.
For the record. If y’all were watching the weather channel idiots. There was not a plant explosion. It was a transformer that blew. There are no oil fields in LC to be on fire like they reported. They were seeing all the plant flares. Which is planned and expected in these type of events.

Up here at Trichell Louisiana 150 miles or so off the coast. We were on the larboard side of the storm. Hard north or northeast wind and rain last night. Generac kicked on about 10PM and still running. Going out to check the fences shortly. I figure Hurricane Laura blew down most of what was weak enough to blow down. Not much visible damage that can be seen here from the house.
Awoke in SE TX to a bright sunny day. On generator of course.... The yard had a hand full of limbs to pick up, but no real damage. Blew out one screen out on the screened in porch. Blew a window screen off the house that I could see in the yard till it got dark. Now it is nowhere to be seen. The rain and most of the wind quit here like someone threw a switch. My thoughts are with those in SW LA that took the brunt of the storm.
There was very little surge here in the Delcambre area, however the winds were far worse than Laura. New Iberia reported 90 mph winds and we are 10 miles west of New Iberia.

On generator, need roof repair, and have a little bit of a mess to clean but all in all not bad.

And there will be fires on the west coast, earthquakes in Alaska, heat waves in Arizona, tornados in Oklahoma, idiot governors in New York, and so on.
Update: Genset shut down at 9:30Am and back to normal power along with internet. Will take the SxS and pick up limbs and do a final search for the damn window screen shortly!

I wanted to add that at least with hurricanes we get some warning unlike earthquakes, most tornados and etc. When you take the brunt of any "natural disaster" you will have damage and that is why we have insurance.
We got gusts up around 65 in Monroe, but it was more like 45 at my place. 5" of rain, trees on the roads and powerlines, but not half as bad as Hurricane Laura. My road is flooded out in one direction from my drive, but the trees were cut off the road in the other direction early this AM. Generator is running and phone/internet still working. Feel for those families down south....
17 miles 120 degrees off the Monroe Regional Airport at Clear Lake we got 12" or more rain and I can guarantee it blew at least 70 mph at times late last night and early morning! Big oaks down in several places but none in my yard thank goodness! Much more wind than Laura and again our hearts go out to the folks in South Louisiana!
Traveled on the interstate some today.

Plenty of power trucks headed south.

Hope they get y’all up and running as quick as possible.
