On quarantine now my sister in-law has had a fever for a week every day for 7 days my wife keeps her 6 month old baby 5 days a week she started symptoms last Thursday and baby came home with us to protect it per the doctor baby got sick on day 2 and my 13 yr old son had fever on day 3 wife was sick on day 4 I’m fine and daughter has scratchy throat this [bleep] is no joke
You are correct it’s real!

My wife is a nurse and my neighbor a doctor. They come home everyday and mention how the hospital is filling up more than in the summer and spring. The good news is we know more about the virus and there is treatment that does work and has great results. People are still dying but there is hope. Hang in there. Prayers for you and your family.
Up close and personal.

It’s a hard thing to watch when a mother can’t see her baby for over a week but from a distance my brother in-law is a hero to care for a 6 month old day and night like that
The virus is real and so is the irrational hysteria.

I'm not particularly worried about COVID for me, but am for my parents. My habits haven't changed much since all this started, but I was already pretty antisocial. I can tell you though from our hospital having two COVID units and plans to open a third, it is real.

Then those babies should be sheltered, just as they should be during a bad flu season.

Yep and he is.

I’ve hunted with his Dad who has just about shutdown his Outfitting business on the advice of his two brothers who are MDs.

Is your hospital recording the percentage of those tested that have already had a flu shot (or two) this season?

If so, how much do you think that might be affecting your facility's flu rates vs The Corona rates?
I am sic of COVID, really

No, because you would give someone with flu symptoms a flu test regardless of whether they had the vaccine or not. It's fairly consistent from year to year the number of positive tests overall. This year since March has been far less than normal. Many of our positives are from people who had the vaccine anyway (shocker, right).

I am in no way saying my observations are scientific. Just what I am actually observing this year as compared to the last 28 years working in a hospital. Could be a lot of things, but whatever it is, we rarely see a positive influenza test now. We are testing for influenza at the same rate as usual and for whatever reason are seeing far less positives. We have seen quite a few positive COVID patients and for the most part symptoms are mild and short lived, except for the mostly overweight diabetics, and they're taking it hard.
Pretty simple.

Have the docs prescribe smoking pot for all things Covid. Its medicine, especially if you smoke it.

PS: Federal seatbelt law for the highway, federal mask mandate everywhere else (besides places of medicinal pot smoking). Because some things the federal government comes up with arent popular enough to enforce....

Shoot 15 nukes at the Chinks about Feb. 2020.

Or "accidentally" send them some schidt. If its a chicken based virus, that would be some comedy...

Thanks, I figured something along those lines. Was just kind of wondering if perhaps even more folks were getting flu shots than in a normal year, people being what they are.

Have you folks detected any co-infections, flu and covid? That would seem to be something not nice to have.

Oh, I too, hope your folks don't catch a case.
both my folks got it, said it was a bad flu, much like when I had it it seems. everything has gone crazy over it. no one looks at swine flu anymore though so we have that going for us. if the media says not to be scared we're all gonna be ok!
My seven days of COVID

Yes we have more beds in use at the local hospitals. But a fair amount of that overall numbers is a result of a lot of procedures canceled and put off in March-August. That backlog has set the stage to make us more sensitive to the uptick in covid patients now.

A couple that are friends of ours are both physicians. Deal with this stuff daily. He caught the wu-flu and his wife told me she is torn about keeping her distance or just going and drinking out of his coffee cup to get it and get it over with.

What does that tell you about their level of concern for this virus?
It seemed pretty real to me when I had it a few weeks ago. Ran 100-102 temperature for eight days, hurt like hell all over for nearly two weeks. Did not have any severe respiratory trouble with it. Right now amongst just family members, our daughter has it, her husband has it, our grandson (2-1/2 yrs old) has it, and the son in laws parents and grandparent have it. Taking reasonable precautions like staying away from crowds and keeping your hands washed are always good ideas when some germ epidemic/pandemic is going on. The mask wearing, not too sure about that. I wear one when I'm forced too. Otherwise, just stay away from most people. And still got it.

LOL, buddy of mine just finished a solid 7-8 days with a fever. Said the only thing that saved his life was editable's . Stoned to the max. Hell whatever works. Fever for a week plus aint fun. high prolly helped
My 50 year old brother is in the hospital in the cardiac unit at a big Boise medical center. They said he almost died yesterday but made it through the night and is doing a bit better today.

My younger brother tested positive today. They all got together for Thanksgiving but I wouldn't let my family go. They would have liked me to go but know I'm high risk because I'm on immunosuppressants and steroids and have severe apnea. I'm glad I skipped Thanksgiving but it sucks feeling like you can't go help out.

My wife's a PA and we're lucky she hasn't brought it home. She usually works in a Dr's office that screens people and often catches it and sends them fir testing before they go in. Yesterday they made her cover at an urgent care because we were still in town. She saw 30 patients yesterday and said at least 25 had covid. We are a little nervous right now. She said it was crazy the number of covid patients at this little urgent care in Rigby. She said suspected patients had to wait in their cars until a room opened up. They have 6-7 exam rooms and she said several times 5 people were waiting in the parking lot.

I'll probably take the vaccine when it comes out. She said it may be her Dec 12th which is my Birthday so I told her that's what I wanted for my birthday. Still a little nervous about a new tech rna vaccine but ill probably give it a try if I get the chance. I'm always a bit concerned about vaccines even though I know they do a lot of good because I've seen a few people injured by them. The shingles vaccine gave my dad who's not diabetic or even insulin resistant severe neuropathy.

Can you tell us when she was dxed, how sick was she then, what (if any treatment) was done for her at the time of Dx? What is she being treated with now? Did she wear the mask when not at home? Wash her hands often? Social distance? Clean her hands with soap or Clorox wipes after gassing her auto or touching public doors?

Not sure exactly what you want me to explain? I just stated what I've seen since all the COVID measures have taken place as regards to influenza infections.

What are they doing for those who test positive when they make the Dx, please? Are they putting them on treatment immediately?

If I were you, BB, I would contact AFLDS.COM and get rxed a prophylaxis and prevent it. Your wife should probably be on it also. The mainstream health community wants you to die. You dont have to be a helpless victim to the Chinese flu unless you want to.

You can let them have control or you can take control.

Your health and survival is in YOUR hands if YOU take control.

Everybody reacts differently. My neighbor is recovering 6 out of 7 got it, wife is ok, son was asmptomatic. I’ll talk to him today, he’s home from a week in the hospital.

The people In know that went to the hospital were sent because O2 dropped below a threshold that their MD set. They then were monitored and put on O2.

Can you give more detail about what your friend went in the hospital and what his treatment was while in.
Hit's some folks hard, some not so hard. Masks, no-masks, shut down, don't shut down.....folks can debate it all they want.

One thing I'm really in awe of with it is how communicable it is. It spreads like wildfire. It's exploded here this past week. My family all has it right now (except my oldest, he's already had it). My sister's family has it. My mother and father have it. Tons of folks in the community have it.

I'm a hand washing, hand sanitizer using SOB...but you can only do so much to stop something passed by the respiratory system. Being in crowed B-ball gyms 5 out of 6 days last week got a whole lot of us in our (and surrounding) communities. Youngest kids may have brought it home from school as well. Who knows.
Covid killed my favorite aunt in just under 12 days.

I was never concerned about getting it myself, and when I did it was about what I expected - something akin to the cold or flu, but with lots of odd little symptoms not like either the cold or flu. Four weeks+ on I still have no taste or smell, which is pretty weird. But I'm only 59 and am fit. My parents (88 and 91 respectively) concern me more. Far more.

I find it sad people can't wear a mask for the sake of those around them. It's just not that hard. But there are a lot of really selfish people around who wrap their selfishness in some sort of twisted patriotism.
Stay well JC. It sounds like you are surrounded by it. It sure does hit some hard....My cousin is a nurse practitioner and she caught it. Mid-50's healthy with no underlying conditions. Two hospital stays. The second, life flighted for a week at the ICU in Boise. Dang near died.

Sorry to hear about your aunt, Brad. My niece caught it last June and it took until recently for her taste and smell to start coming back. Hopefully yours will be back soon?
In addition to loss of smell and taste, you apparently lose use of punctuation when exposed.

In all seriousness I hope you're family is on the mend. For the overwhelmong majority it is nothing more than a minor cold, but there are those that have severe complications. I know a couple folks in their 70s that have died but both had other previous health issues.

Explain to me how a mask prevents the spread of COVID - 19.

Well there ya go... What part of "social distancing" got past you?
If a mask stops a .2 micron virus then a sock condom should work better at protecting you from STD's and unwanted pregnancies than any latex condom.
Hold the ph uck on now back in April, everyone favorite dr said shut the country down for just 2 weeks.. and we will flatten the curve! Everyone praised him, praise the lord hallelujah! DJT did it, well by week 2 nothing uh oh sphagetti O’s looks like Easter in the trash can folks so sorry! Extending this shut down another 2 weeks to 30 April. So uh yeah.. I give a ph uck if you work in a hospital or work at the cdc you all are full of chit you are all like the weatherman don’t have a ph ucking clue majority of the time..

I find it sad that some people are so selfish they demand other people wear a muzzle for their (the ones demanding) safety. It's just not that hard to respect other people's rights.

If you are fearful, you can choose to live like it.

Being in crowed B-ball gyms 5 out of 6 days last week got a whole lot of us in our (and surrounding) communities. Youngest kids may have brought it home from school as well. Who knows.

LOL

Glad you find it humorous. I only had a fever/felt rough one day.

Well there ya go... What part of "social distancing" got past you?

We figured it was going to happen, we had no expectations of it being a myth. Our two sons play bball so we go to watch. No part of "social distancing" got by me....neither did the virus.

Brad wears a mask and caught the "covid"
I have never worn a mask and no "covid"
Therefore I can conclude mask increase the risk of "covid"
When we are doing aerosolizing procedures on covid patients, you know what we don't do?

Wear stupid cloth masks.

FWIW, nobody working with covid patients where I'm at is even remotely scared of it anymore.

Wash your hands before touching your face.

Anyhow, it's real, and it isn't something we should be destroying the economy over. The lack of appropriate PPE in the hospitals early was a big deal, but that's been a non issue since early May.

THIS^^^ Jag is 100%.

BurleyBoy, heed this advice and hang around this Earth awhile, your wife is on front lines and you can't afford to get this sh t...Many of us are pragmatic about this virus, we live our lives, accept risks, etc, mitigate sensibly where we can.
You are high risk and can't afford to get this crap.
DO NOT TRUST the doubters and mockers here. A$$holes.

Vitamin D drops, NAC supplement, Reduced glutothione, Zinc sulfate. EVERYDAY!
Earlybyrd: I hope your family heals quickly and completely!
Indeed there never was a question in my mind that the chi-coms brought forth this horrific chinese wuhan red death just in time to accomplish their schitcity chi-com goals!
Its real, and the damage they have done to the United States of America is VERY real as well.
I say this to the chi-com hierarchy GFY's and the whores you rode in with!
Sad.

There's a little screen of brush in front of the buck. I'm confident my turdy-06 will shoot through that brush that's 1 foot in front of the buck and hit him in the kill zone.

I laugh because the story you just relayed was that you, your friends, and family became moderately sick due to engaging in recreational activities.

You have it.

You just don’t know it.

Stop being so irresponsible.
I'm even starting to believe its real! When it didn't instantly go away after the election...I kinda wondered.

Then two friends got it...with symptoms...but were fine after a couple weeks.

I just don't know how to handle the pressure of a pandemic that claims .036% of its victims! ( I may have overestimated that for the sake of drama...)

I'm not a doctor and I didn't do well studying science, but here's my explanation.

See, Covid is really just another name for comply with government orders or we'll hurt you. In this picture of quasi-governmental mask wearers socially distancing from quasi-governmental resistance figures who refused to wear masks, we see a 100% fatality rate for those who refuse to wear the mask (being blindfolded isn't wearing a mask, as they found out).

Not that anyone wants to see their loved ones sick and pass, but the reality is people die.

Sad to see people in nursing homes and other elderly people without any family contact. Sad to see small businesses that will never recover. Sad on so many levels what this hysteria has done to this country, much less this world.

You see, it works like this...the basic N95 mask that is so popular filters out nasty things down to 3 microns in size.

The Covid 19 virus is .08 to .12 microns in size....

So when a schittload of these COVID virus thingies get together-like a REALLY big schittload and attach themselves to each other ( not paying attention to nano-social distancing...) that gang of them can't get through the mask!

Simple as that!
For a while none of us knew what this thing was really about. We were told multiple conflicting story lines about what works what doesn’t, what we should do and shouldn’t do. But 9 months into it it’s not a smoke screen anymore, we all know several people who’ve had it, or we have had it. Truth is very few people actually get hit hard and most that die are older with underlying conditions. At this point the fear has worn off due to using logic. I have had several family members get it, ages 10-75 and none have had a rough go of it. I’ve had several co workers get it , some that I was face to face with when they were positive and wearing no mask. I may have had it and don’t even know it, Anyone who really believes at this point that masks actually do anything is out of touch with reality. Every single person who wears a masks touches their mouth and nose area more times a day than if they didn’t wear a mask. People who have worn a mask religiously , washed their hands religiously , and social distanced has still got the crud. At this point it has done what you’d expect, ran wildly across our country, from the smallest rural towns to the most densely populated cities. This shut down [bleep] is doing more harm than good at this point!

Normally when someone brings the flu home everyone in the house gets it. With the China flu it doesn't seem to work like that. Personally I'm not worried about the China virus and just plan to keep keeping on. If your the sickly type maybe you should pay attention, but please don't make me suffer because your fat or have pre-existing health conditions. None of us are getting out of here alive.
there was widely publicized report recently, think from the CDC, said 85% of new cases are those who wear masks often or all the time
I'm just now getting cleared to go back to work from my bout with it. Tired and achy for a couple days but not really any worse than my annual cold. The hardest part for me is adjusting to the loss of smell and taste...

Regarding the mask thing, I wear mine in the hospital when I have patient contact, but otherwise I don't. My coworkers are the same and we don't wear a mask in the hospital unless a patient (or our boss) is nearby. I'm somewhat ambivalent about it. I don't live in one of the commie states that makes an issue of it. I think a private business can ask customers to wear it if they want, and I can choose to either go there or not. I have choices. I don't really go out that often, so it's not like I'm having to change behavior. Do they work or not? I really don't care either way.

What I do find puzzling though is the number of people I know that rant about the government and masks, but also ask the government for permission and pay for the ability to exercise an actual constitutional right. To me, a CC permit is far more of a government intrusion than the mask, and I refuse to to get permission to carry, even though I do carry whenever I want. I guess we all draw lines somewhere.

As a hospital worker who sees COVID patients every day, I'm not particularly worried about it for myself and really don't go out of my way to avoid it. I'm not old, overweight, diabetic, with multiple other risk factors, so even if I do get it the chances of it being severe are minimal (although not zero).

The H1N1 strain from 09 was bad, sure, but influenza is bad every year. Some years more than others. It's funny how people want to bring it up to prove a point no matter how far off they are.

Lots of clinicians here at the fire. Maybe my memory has failed me, but I don't remember back in 09 running out of ventilators. I don't remember staff worried because so many HCPs were getting and dying from H1N1. I don't remember the ICU being too full to take care of the normal ICU patients we have. I don't remember the military setting up field hospitals in multiple locations here in the US just to take some burden off the hospitals treating H1N1. Heck, I don't even remember the health care systems of most developed countries pushed beyond their means by H1N1. You'd think since I was working in the same hospital I am now I'd remember that, huh?

Now, for those of you who were actually in a hospital back in 09, maybe you can correct my memory if I'm wrong.

Don't just be a survivor, be a competitor.

Weren't we all? What we thought it was in April-May turned out to not be such the case. The hospital workers that were more susceptible to it have gotten it and either died or gotten better. The rest of us seem to be like everyone else and not so much an issue. Time and perspective are something. My hospital currently has more COVID patients in it now than then, so it's not like it's gotten better for those dying of it, we just understand it a little better now. It's still a big deal for those that do die of it, is it not?
But as I said before, I still don't recall any healthcare worker I knew at any place I've worked getting influenza from a patient and dying, and that's not the case for COVID. That hasn't changed. The military did set up field hospitals, right? Don't think that was at my insistence. People were [bleep] the bed over ventilators, right? Again, wasn't at my insistence. We currently have more vented patients than normal, so that seems to still be going on too. Just less hype.
But hey, maybe it is all made up and not real as some say...

A divorce, a move to the country, and unplug for a while to keep from getting sucked into all of the politics.

Odd, wouldn't call 4 or 5 posts arguing for hours, but OK. Anyway, All I did whenever we discussed this back in March and April was tell you what was going on at the hospital I worked at and with the coworkers I know. That hasn't changed. And mostly the context was the difference in H1N1 vs. COVID at the operational level.

I've never been an alarmist over COVID, but also haven't denied it's existence. Patient's in hospitals aren't lying. I haven't ever said everyone should wear a mask or stay home. I don't know what gives you the impression I care enough about others to go out of my way to ensure their safety.

Maybe it was one of those heated arguments I have with the wife I never knew I was in.

Sis in-law is fever free today wife’s uncle went to er for fluids my boy is good to go
Prayers for my wife family but hit panic mode when my my son hit the fever
Had my run in with this crap back in Feb.

Got a sore throat, mild temp and was some kind of tired.

Lasted 2 days.

Had hernia surgery in May and never looked back.

I am 65 years young.
Neighbor it’s on week four and is home with double pneumonia. I spoke to him today and it’s kicking his ass. Goes from the bedroom to bathroom and he’s out of breath. At 63 he is feeling it. He is the custodian at a local PD/FD and some did not wear a mask. The deputy chief, a friend and his wife and daughter got it. At home recuperating.
Affects everyone differently.

I'm somewhere between your mom's right side, and your mom's left side.

Sorry that I can't be more specific. It's along journey.
