Just watching Life Below Zero: Next Gen. What cartridge is this?
I think I can just make out a belt, I think it's a .375 H&H - what say you?
A .375 H&H would be my guess also.

Jackrabbit ammo!

Jackrabbit ammo!
Yup!
If there's no belt that would be my guess also, but as I said, I think I can just make out a belt.
Yes, I used to have rifle with cartridges just like that.
400 Whelen maybe.
I do not see a belt but I am just on my phone.
Not enough taper in my opinion for the H&H. Also looks like a medium rim IE .473
It is definitely not a 9,3 Mauser... the bullet is clearly bigger than 366
Might also be a 375 Whelen.
9.3x62 was my guess. Doesn’t look like a belted case
9.3x62 was my guess. Doesn’t look like a rimmed case
These look just like 18,5gm Norma Oryx I used to shoot through my 9,3x62.
It seems likely that subsistence Alaskans would choose a commonly available cartridge. In the 15 seasons of the old show, and what I've seen of this new one, I've never seen any of them reload ammunition - not that they don't, but the producers of the show have never shown it.
i don't see a belt so i say 35 whelen
Wondered that myself. Appears too short and too straight walled for a 375 H&H. That and no belt on the case. Also he is using a 1895 Winchester and the action is too short for a 375. My guess is some wildcat off a 30-06 case since the 1895 will handle that length case.
35 whelen has a longer neck
It’ might Mainers wildcat he necked a 9.3x62 to a .411 or just his standard 9.3x62 he uses I think he’s using swift a frames in it these days.
I will wait till it’s all settled and then post what the consensus goes with
Thus, making myself seem intelligent and self-important
Caution: it will seem as if I didn’t read the replies of the previous 20 others that pegged it already, or it may reveal that I have most members in this thread on ignore
Either a medium bore or big bore?
Either a medium bore or big bore?
Excellent. That narrows it down considerably.
416 Rem Mag-think i see a belt?

That's just to continue the argument for after the cartridge is identified.
well i cant see a rim but it looks like a 35 wcf which the 1895 was chambered in
9.3x62 was my guess. Doesn’t look like a belted case
Yep not long enough to be 375 H&H and belt would be clearer if it were there.

I was just going to say he posts on this site. Why not ask him.
.35 Rem? Unless the hand is giant the case isn't that long.

Yes, he's a rather a rather large MFer. 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan as well. He just shot a huge moose with a Winchester 1873 in .405, I believe.

Yep, I knew you were being a smart azz - so was I.

That's the problem - too many smart azzs around here
Actually I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and offer my guess as 505Gibbs, if the guys hands are big.
.416 Rigby
Maybe on a diet, but its case is too thin relative to the neck.
Seems to not have the same neck contour and overall shape as the .375 H&H.
Reasonably sure those are .411 Hawk cartridges but they could be .375 Scovill.
When the 1895 re-issues first came out there was an outfit in Alaskan doing conversions.

Yep. I meant 1895.
It was the 1895 that amazed me. Whatever the cartridge, it has to work through that action, obviously. It appears to be at least .375" bore and probably beltless. And I bet it is both very hard to get and eye-wateringly expensive in Alaska. Especially now.
Maybe it’s a 35 Winchester. I believe the model 95 Winchester came in that Caliber.
Improved Creedmoor Express
Hi all, it is my wildcat cartridge called the 41 O&M (Occumpaigh and Manzo). It is a 9.3x62 necked up to .410. Handy canoe carbine:

Very cool. Thanks Mainer.
Yah, that's what I thought....

I dont see a belt, even with my readerson. I say its probably a 9.3x62
