Me thinks, those that believe this, will be shocked when you’re looking into the eyes of millions of sinners still here on earth.

Kent, just today I was flipping channels on TV, snowbound ya know, and there was a preacher that had a pile of letters before Him and He was answering questions, one of which was about the rapture. He said the same thing as you, no rapture. And referred the question asker to some verses to read. Caught my attention so I watched until the end, which was not long. One was about Noah and He told that He believed that Noah had 2 of several tribes beside His own, which would explain How Cain's line was still with us after the flood. That has bother me for a while, but I did not know the answer. The churches that I attended back in my younger day believed Hard on the rapture, but I never thought to ask about the Cain deal, and it was a while before I thought about it much.
Rapture.. (thinking) Rapture...(thinking)...... RAPTURE..........

does that word even appear in Scripture?

Seems suspect to me.

It doesn't appear in KJV. The bible does talk about being caught up into the air to be with the Lord. This is where people get rapture idea. Jesus also talked about there being 2 in the field one shall be taken,& the other left. I believe it will happen, but not convinced it'll be before tribulation as some think.

In seminary class I always had more questions than blind acceptance of what was supposedly some theologians take and then church doctrine of about every subject. I just don't believe there were 'secrets' hidden in the bible to be found by the learned.

Christ and his life example is the most KISS thing in the world... man doesn't like it straightforward though and has to complicate everything.

Needless to say I didn't become a preacher.

Kent
It might seem obvious to some, as to why many people have a difficult time believing everything that is supposedly written in a bible.

Grappling with narratives that post date Christ, seem rather manipulative to form a belief for personal reason or gain by authors.

🦫
How much do theologians really know about my soul? I agree with the keep it simple program.
2nd Peter 1:20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

I'm not a dispensationalist. I'm not a follower of Darby or Scofield or LaHaye or Lindsey, nor their deceptions.
"yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."
(Jas 4:14 ESV)
I also think about Revelation, & why God went into such detail if we won't be here. I'm not to concerned, because I trust God knows what he's doing. No need for me to worry about it.

The "Cain deal" is "Christian Identity", and is even more a devilish deception than is dispensationalism.
I have no doubt at all about my redemption after I die.
But I honestly don’t think that Christians are gonna be able to skip the schitshow that’s clearly coming. I can only live accordingly with my beliefs that God is still in control.

Not saying there couldn’t be one, but I see little in the Bible to legitimize the idea, and NOTHING to suggest it would precede a tribulation. The God of the Bible ALWAYS tests or allows suffering before rescue. The 3 Hebrew children had to go into the furnace, Daniel had to go into the lion’s den, before the miracles happened. For Christians to think, as many do, that they are so special as to escape this earth, without so much as a test of faith first, has no basis in Scripture and is fraught with hubris and denial. Christians will absolutely be here to be tested and/or persecuted before rescue is offered, and many who think they are Christians will inevitably fail that test and find their religion was simply a crutch with no utility beyond good times and easy living.

I say this having grown up in a hardcore Pentecostal household and with parents who are still in that life and believe wholeheartedly that this rapture is right around the corner, especially since times appear to be getting a little sketchy. This belief has persisted throughout their lives from forty years ago to now, and the hoops they and folks like them jump through to connect the dots for their preferred scenario are always amusing and often pitiful.

It has become, unfortunately, thoroughly pervasive. Virtually to the exclusion of all else. When I grew up, I was taught this. However, it was not hammered into us then the way it is today. Today it is full-on. ALL the time, and it seems to be the most important thing in the universe. I think when I was growing up, we still had older people that did NOT believe such garbage, and those who did believe it and teach it were somewhat restrained by that, but now the older generation is passed away, and they now have free rein.

Even though we weren't pounded with it as people are today, still it was taught, and it was all I knew. I had no idea that anyone believed anything different. Still, I never bought it. I simply did not see in the Bible what they claimed to see. To make a long story short, I eventually let the Bible speak for itself and I seriously wondered if I was the only one who "got it". Only later did I learn of Dispensationalism and all it entails, and that what I believed the Bible said was historic Christianity (pre 1830), and I was not alone... though with rather little company today....

So I don't know if I'll see the Rapture or not. For 2000-ish years people have clung by their fingernails to the idea it was coming tomorrow. It hasn't. Every one of them has been wrong so far. Winner winner

I believe that men are by their nature sinful (including and especially me) and that God, in His grace, has sent His Son as the only sacrifice worthy of payment for that sin.

I believe that Christ, having completed His work on earth is seated at the right hand of the Father and will return to judge the living and the dead, and that the event will be anything BUT “secret,” tho the time of His return is unknown to us.

Sound wisdom.
I will rejoice at the triumphant return of Christ, as it is taught painfully clearly in the Bible. Where EVERY eye shall see and EVERY knee shall bend... whether they want to or not. I do NOT believe in the secret rapture, where people will suddenly disappear and no one will know what happened to them. Nor do I believe any of the Scripture-twisting that is necessary to back up this belief, nor do I believe any of the dispensationalists' Zionism and judaizing that goes hand in hand with the secret rapture.

This post is probably troll bait, but for those that are interested Nt Wright's surprised by Hope is a great read.

A brief excerpt pertaining to the "rapture" passage -

Parousia is itself, in fact, one of those terms in which Paul is able to say that Jesus is the reality of which Caesar is the parody. (131)

[1 Thessalonians 4:16-17]…are not to be taken as a literal description of what Paul thinks will happen. They are simply a different way of saying what he is saying in 1 Corinthians 15:23-27 and 51-54, and in Philippians 3:20-21. (131)

In 1 Corinthians 15:23-27 Paul speaks of the Parousia of the Messiah as the time of the resurrection of the dead, the time when his present though secret rule will become manifest in the conquest of the last enemies, especially death. (131)

I suggest that he [Paul] is finding richly metaphorical ways of alluding to three other stories that he is deliberately bringing together. (132)

Moses coming down the mountain
The story of Daniel 7
When the emperor visited a colony or province, the citizens of the country would go to meet him at some distance from the city. It would be disrespectful to have him actually arrive at the gates as though his subjects couldn’t be bothered to greet him properly. When they met him, they wouldn’t then stay out in the open country; they would escort him royally into the (132) city itself. (133)
…the meaning is the same as in the parallel in Philippians 3:20. Being citizens of heaven, as the Philippians would know, doesn’t mean that one is expecting to go back to the mother city but rather means that one is expecting the emperor to come from the mother city to give the colony its full dignity, to rescue it if need be, but subdue local enemies and put everything to rights. (133)

Jesus will be personally present, the dead will be raised, and the living Christians will be transformed. (133)

The promise is not that Jesus will simply reappear within the present world order, but that when heaven and earth are joined together in the new way God has promised, then he will appear to (134) us–and we will appear to him, and to one another, in our own true identity. (135)
Would you prepare for a job interview?

Would you prepare for buying a home?

Would you prepare for marriage or children?

Would you prepare for war?

Would you prepare for retirement or death?

Do you prepare for anything? Or just take whatever is given to you in the big brown McDonalds sack?

I accept and even understand your choice to believe.

🦫
The main gist of Wright's book is that the "rapture" and even "going to heaven" aren't really Christian concepts at all.
The Christian hope is that God will do for all created order what he did to Jesus when he raised him from the dead.
If you think "going to heaven when you die" is the point of this whole thing - to leave the material realm for some immaterial casper-ghost place, you've mistaken the Christian message for something else.
Stophel please explain Luke 17:34-37. This is what makes me believe there may be a rapture. I can't explain those verses otherwise.

Read the previous verses. It speaks there not of people suddenly disappearing, but of destruction of the wicked.

Christ will no doubt come for his people, but it ain't gonna be no secret. The world may not see it coming, but Christians are commanded to watch so that they may see it coming. I've always been amazed that people who believe that no one will have any idea when the secret rapture will happen are SO wrapped up in the "signs of the times".....

Not many tickets issued. Looks like the rapture is a relatively small venue:

Revelations 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

I've been skeptical of rapture as I can't find anything cut & dry on it. I don't know when Christ is coming back, but he will. I know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord at least for believers.
Where is everyone supposed to go, if you’re lifted up?

A Ziggy Stardust type thing? Pick a planet? Galaxy’s supposedly infinite.

The "Cain deal" is "Christian Identity", and is even more a devilish deception than is dispensationalism.

The story of Cain and able is much deeper than that:

Christ returns to judge the world and to resurrect the saints. It will not be a secret. It will be plain for EVERYONE to see. The Bible is quite clear. Sudden disappearance is simply not found in Scripture. No, "in the twinkling of an eye" does not mean people will suddenly disappear (our bodies will be changed from corruptible to incorruptible in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye... we won't disappear). Just to be "taken" or "left" does not imply a magical vanishing that no one can see. Scripture has been twisted BADLY in order to prop up this idea.

Realize also, that this notion of the secret rapture is not a stand-alone idea. It is an integral part of the theology of Dispensationalism, which arose in the 1830's and has been cultivated ever since. It only gained much of a following through the publication of the Scofield Study Bible at the turn of the 20th century, and still did not gain broad acceptance until after WWII. Dispensationalism is a VERY incorrect understanding of God's grace and the nature of salvation. Dispensationalism is the home of Christian Zionism and modern day judaizing. I encourage everyone to study what Dispensationalism is, where it originated, and see what Christians believed before it appeared... and some still do after.

The beauty of Christianity is that God agrees with this judgment and yet has made a way for such sinners to be with Him by His grace.

If it weren’t for His definitive action in offering His Son there would be no salvation because we are all unworthy.

If you can prepare for marriage, children, retirement, war or death in a matter of moments/couple of days you are very cavalier or very spiritual with your God.

Either way, you should be very proud.

Many people are not... they bullshitt their way around faith... or atheism.

Those that demand proof don't understand the concept of faith.

I don't allow myself to get bogged down with all of the various theories of how it will be. I Just reduce it to the basics. The basics are contained in the New Testament.

For a long time I didn't know what to think about it all. Then I started reading what was said and how it ties in with so much that I see going on today and it made me raise one eyebrow and give it a lot of ponder,...especially the book of John and Romans 1.

I've talked to some people who think that Paul was less legit than the original 12. But the way I see it, Paul was sent to the Gentiles. The original 12 were in the business of correcting the path that Judaism had taken. Paul's message has a harsher edge to it than some of the others. I think that was probably because it was how the Romans and various/sundry other Gentiles needed to hear it.

I also think the creator needed to select someone with serious street cred to send to the Romans. So he selected a Pharisee who was known for persecuting Christians to take that hit on the road to Damascus.

So I try to pay attention to what Paul had to say.

Anyway,...that's how I see it.
So which is more important....

a creation demanding proof of the Creator

or the Creator asking that His creations believe in Him?

Who has the better rewards system?

And how should it be distributed?

I agree with you.
But, if ya’ have a bad experience with a doctor...you don’t just stop going to the doctor...you find another one, you don’t just stop believing in medicine because of your bad experience with a doctor. Or doctors.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

I Believe in Jesus Christ our Lord.

I've got a ticket stub to a 1996 Western Division Stanley Cup playoffs game.

Does that count?

Look up your History guys.

He gave that thing away on account he no longer wanted it around. It's like it's got a life of its own, kept getting bigger every few years, right up until they figured out they have to cut the bottom off (like pruning a tree) every once in awhile to allow for new growth.

Lord Stanley would have had to build a bigger castle or some scheidt to contain that thing had he not given it away.

It would be un-Christian to give it back to a person what didn't want it no more I think.
Every time I scroll through one of these threads I'm alarmed and amused.

And I always come away thinking I should be selling bridges to a lot of people, or perhaps selling annuities with Safariman...

Soccer was sent to folks that had a bunch more people than Canada so their teams had to be bigger. And they had no ice, but they did have big fields, Of course, you couldn't expect them to use a puck, so they made a ball of goat skins (lots of goats around then) and therefor had to make the net bigger (but mostly proportional).

It was all in the PLAN..................the real PLAN........................not the one we were supposed to trust for 4 years.

Well, He should also come down here and walk on water, heal the incurable, raise the dead and certainly make the best wine out of water on the spot, die and come back to life and ascend into heaven in front of a large group of witnesses. And, because that would never be enough, folks should see that when they do what He said their lives go much better. If He did that, who could deny Him?

You said that six times... so it just must be true.

Any other wisdom to share Professor?
This thread has been interesting - I was first pulled in by the title and soon noted with interest the post by milespatton and the reply by krp (I do know those guys) and appreciated their views. As for a "ticket", it would be difficult for me to grab a ticket for something of that ilk, for I have never seen that term in the Bible, only the human iterations. I do understand the contextual aspect with regard to Christians being "caught up" (Latin term 'Rapere,' meaning ''to catch up.' ) but have not thought about the promise of Christ's return and the aftermath in any terms other than those applied to the individual believer. To that, I have a ticket.

Due to the comments and questions here, I went to the Billy Graham website to see what is said there about the "rapture". I do not remember ever having cut and pasted such a narrative from elsewhere into one of our threads (then again, maybe I have), for that practice by others has bothered me at times. However, i decided to post the info from the BG website with the possibility that it may yield some clarification and understanding, for some. As below.

There are many Christians who believe that the second coming of Jesus Christ will be in two phases. First, He will come for believers, both living and dead, in the “rapture” (read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). In this view, the rapture—which is the transformation and catching up of all Christians, dead or alive, to meet Christ in the air—will be secret, for it will be unknown to the world of unbelievers at the time of its happening.

The effect of this removal, in the absence of multitudes of people, will, of course, be evident on earth. Then, second, after a period of seven years of tribulation on earth, Christ will return to the earth with His church, the saints who were raptured (Matthew 24:30, 2 Thessalonians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:13, Revelation 1:7). He will be victorious over His enemies and will reign on the earth for 1,000 years (the millennium) with His saints, the church.

After 1,000 years, living unbelievers and the wicked dead now raised to life will be judged at the great white throne judgment. They will then be cast into the lake of fire, while the saved will live forever with Christ in a new heaven and earth (Revelation, chapters 19-22).

Many other evangelical Christians believe that Christ’s return and the rapture will not occur until the seven years of the tribulation have ended. As far as the latter view is concerned, the rapture will not be secret, since it will be part of Christ’s visible and triumphant return to end this present evil age (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). At this point, interpreters differ as to whether there will be a literal thousand year reign of Christ on earth or whether the white throne judgment and the new heaven and earth will immediately appear.

All Christians do not agree on every detail of what will occur in the final events of this world’s history. Some of these events and their order of occurrence have simply not been made clear in the Bible. What is important is that all Christians hold in common that Christ will ultimately return bodily, visibly, and gloriously to reign and rule with His resurrected and transformed saints forever and ever. The details of this great event will be made known in God’s own time.
Make NO mistake....

EVERY knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Listening to what Paul has to say is very wise indeed!

You're a good dude Beaver, and this will be my one an only post on the subject knowing the lurking trolls will read this and launch into a feeding frenzy in which I'm not interested to participate in. I believe that the Bible is 100% true and infallible, and it requires a lot of faith to believe and accept it. The actual word "rapture" does not appear in the Bible, but neither does the actual word "trinity" which refers to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost which is also accepted by Christians as true. In the end, it doesn't matter what you think, or I think, or anyone thinks. What matters is what the Truth is, and I believe God's word is the truth, 100%.

Nah, no need, see reply to Mr Robert.
There are three of them. Which one you want to talk about.

That oughta stir up a dust cloud. smile

Thanks to CCCC and JGRaider for finally posting something intelligent to this thread along with several others.

Actually the majority of the posts remind me of a verse of scripture that says: In the end times scoffers shall come saying where is the promise of his coming .

Every thing is not spelled out the way man would like it but when you look at the whole bible you ( I ) am struck with the fact that God deals with man in a consistent way.

He saved Noah and his family after Noah had preached to those around him for 120 years. People had a chance to repent but refused. When the door to the ark was closed

Gods judgment fell in the form of water. He then promised that he would not use water as judgement again and put a rainbow in the sky. When you see a rainbow you can be

sure of Gods promise.

We do not Know when some other things will happen because God has chosen not to reveal it yet, but he has said that it will come. As sure as the sun rises each morning

And sets each evening. The thing we can be sure of is that it will happen.

Those that choose not to believe I can relate to. Before I became a believer I to was a scoffer. God will reveal his word to those who honestly seek it.

So there's no rapture... or there's an antirapture... the evil ones will be taken and the righteous left.

Over the years I wrote over 100 essays to answer questions for myself. This subject is just one of them. I spent five hours a day for ten weeks going through the New Testament searching this subject. The unrighteous will go first. Then the dead in Christ will go and then those who are alive in Jesus will be taken up to be with Him. Jesus says very clearly it will be like in the days of Noah.
They did not understand until the flood came and took them away. Who was taken out from among whom?! If you want I will P.M. the essay to anyone who wants.

Actually, there are a load of very interesting clinical death experiences. Admittedly they are anecdotal but it is uncanny how similar they can be. If interested just do a search on clinical death experiences.

I have a friend who has three doctorate degrees. So he hangs out with medical doctors and other educated folks as a mater of course. He told me one of his doctor friends became a Christian because of the terrible experiences in Hell some of his non-Christian patients had in near death experiences.
Grandpa used to tell me we don't have a leash on tomorrow. He's passed on and now I'm almost 60 and the older I get the more truth I see in those words. The topic of this thread is interesting and likely been debated by many but it won't be by me.

I do have a few thoughts though. Remember when John Adams made the statement "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." If you can't see why things are unraveling as they are I think just this statement alone is very much worth considering.

Job said "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him." Then Joshua said, "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord".

In what I see as history just in my own lifetime I see the drift away from good being the same as the drift away from God as a nation.

Truth.
Part 2 of the “Ticket” question.

What do you believe will happen to individuals who thought they will be Raptured before the serious, heavy, and ugly lifting begins?

Finding themselves still here.

Is....

God just testing their faith?

Gods words were misunderstood?

God lied?

The Rapture wasn’t ever for real?

The actual word "rapture" does not appear in the Bible, but neither does the actual word "trinity" which refers to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost which is also accepted by Christians as true. In the end, it doesn't matter what you think, or I think, or anyone thinks. What matters is what the Truth is, and I believe God's word is the truth, 100%.

Appreciate that, John.

Hope you and the family are all doing okay in West, TX.

Yep.

God doesn't lie, but you do.
This is the rest of what they quoted earlier.

"Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all."

Revelation 218
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Jesus Christ said that it would be more tolerable in the day if judgement for Sodom than for those who had more warning and evidence handed to them on a silver platter. You were offered a "ticket to heaven" in no uncertain terms. You and your buddies tore them up, through them on the ground and spat in the face of the giver.

Anyone with sense wouldn't have done that, but maybe, just maybe if you ask Him nicely, go back and watch the first video..... perhaps the Lord won't turn His back on you. I really hope so.

I can see some signs right now how people will behave. Lets just look at this virus and what goes along with it. the Mark of the Beast is a sure ticket to hell and those that take it will seal their doom. They'll sell their souls for some promise of being able to live life as they have been. In return they get the "mark". If you love this life so very much that you can't let go of it you will take that mark. Fear will motivate people to do things to assure themselves of security. Like the vaccine. They will also trample all over those less fortunate to assure their security. Just listen to the teachers say they should be ahead of the sick and elderly in getting this vaccine. Then the mandates we have seen. Many won't or can't think for themselves long enough to make a decision based on anything other than fear. I treasure my life but am also ready to go. When you get there the calm is much better than anything offered by the so called experts.

Now bring the 56 brave men into all of this that signed the Declaration of Independence. They risked everything for a brighter future for all of us. They showed that there were some unselfish men that cared enough about our future to lay everything on the line. In my reading of the Bible they were following the example set forth by Jesus Christ. In today's terms, pay it forward. On the other side of that they knew full well that it wasn't time to turn their swords into plowshares or their spears into pruning kooks. They were ready to die or fight. We should be too.
This post is off topic, but it speaks to the issues we as conservatives and constitutionalist are being faced with.

You mention the 56 men who took turns at a table signing for their freedom, knowing that their lives could be forfeited.

I watched a 4 season show on Amazon called *The Man in the High Castle*. It’s a fictional account of what America would have become if Germany and Japan had defeated the US and Britain in the War.

America becomes like East/West Germany after WW2. Japan holding the PNW territory and Germany controlling everything East of the Rockies.

Americans are considered no better than garbage. Those with a will to die fighting, rather than live as a dog in their own country, come together as a rebel fighting force to undermine the occupation of both Japan and Germany.

Without any further spoiler alerts....It’s worth the several nights of watching. Each season is 10 episodes.

I’ve got 3 shows left before it’s over. Excellent production value in the show, meaning, producers spent a lot of money on quality actors and settings.

"Rapture" is a heretical doctrine. There is no basis for it. No one alive at the time when things kick off are going to escape the events that are going to occur.

Trade you a slightly used pair of Danner hunting boots, size 9, and a 1970’s Zebco trout reel/rod combo for 1 of them.

Maybe, for those who are Jesus’ followers, the thing is to continue trusting in God, and turning to Him, regardless of the circumstances.
The men and women who actually knew Jesus personally and chose to follow Him were subject to random and inexplicable tragedy and loss. And in spite of believing that God could have kept these bad things from happening, they still turned to Him for comfort and help anyway, right after they happened. I believe they continued trusting in, and turning to God because they witnessed the resurrection of Jesus. To the degree that our faith is anchored to that same ancient event, I believe that our confidence in God can sustain us through the random and inexplicable’ “God where are you...?” valley’s of life. When we find ourselves praying to the very God that didn’t come through for us to begin with...the way we wanted Him to, the way we expected Him to...we’re in good company. Peter, Andrew, James, John, Mary, Martha...the men and women whose faith laid the groundwork for the evangelization of the entire world...their irrational (I say irrational because when bad things happened they turned to God for comfort even though they were confident that God could’ve kept those bad things from happening in the first place), in spite of, “where are you God...?” faith...is why Jesus’ message made its way into the 21st century.

When I was young the "Mark of the Beast" was a Social Security Number.

If that still The Mark of the Beast?

Does having a Social Security Number still send you straight to Hell?
Yes.....

There is happiness but it is fleeting..... there is health but health can leave us....there is family but many times they go to live their lives and they can become distant.......and should we live long enough we become feeble and often find ourselves with many more bodily complaints and basic living can be drudgery and at times painful.

The only thing that does not leave us is the peace and comfort that a faithful and caring God gives us..... it is there within us .... every day, all day long.... through good times and bad.

Nope, a SSN is not now nor ever was the Mark. I’m pretty sure I am older than you and I never heard that. Evidently, you did.

I also doubt the Mark is a tattoo. Think about it....the Mark on the head..... that is where you “think and believe.” What about the Mark on the hand..... the hand may represent what you “do.” Your work.....

The Mark may refer to what a person thinks, believes and does....
