Public land on FTCKY area 09B. Get in and someone already parked in vehicle still. Go talk to guy. 350 pd on the hoof easy.
Ask him where you are going so I dont step on ya. He says I been parked here for an hour. I ask where are you going so I dont bump into you and mess you up.
No answer. Ok.......
I say Im going back up the road about 700 yds and gonna go down in a back corner on some reverse slopes on a feild
Then he says well I was gonna probably do that.
Im like ok I will go down this road about 900 yds to the pines and set up down their.
He says I might move down their if I hear a bird.
I say so you plan on running and gunning( 350 pd,r) And no matter where I say i would like to go. You are gonna come up with a plan based off what I do right off the cuff.... Gives me a funny look..
I say Im just gonna set up my dekes in the corner back east and not move and I will be 800+ yds away from you and you got 600 plus acres to run and gun if you hear a bird to yourself.
I said good luck hunting and left...........
I have ran into this many times You dont own the land. You dont have squatters rights I tried to coordinate with you out of courtesy. As the crow flies I am probably 1200 meters from where he was parked diagonal across the field / airfield glide path for LZ Heavy Beast.
" Free Willy out running and gunning"
Uh huh.........
Sitting watching over dekes in the back corner..... Birds been getting rained on most of the night. They might hit the fields and shake off like dogs...
Aint heard a bird yet or "Frank Cannon" out trying to locate a bird with any type of call to run and gun and get set up on.
Dave Owens had an episode where a guy tried to bluff him off a spot he had scouted out and reached first. The guy had placed a blind there prior to the season and thought that gave him ownership. First come, first serve. There are deerstands all over the WMA I hunt, but the person first on the scene has the floor. No way to tell if someone’s gonna show or not. Get yer azz outta bed!
I dont mind sitting till 930 1000ish watching over dekes in a field given the storms that came thru last night.
Aint called a note. Aint heard a gobble. Just gonna sit. smoke some ciggs, stay silent and if something hits the feild edge out in the distance. Hit it with a loud cackle and 3 or 4 clucks to get it attention possibly to my Ho,s out on the field.
If I kill one. I will stick a wing feather under tubby,s wiper blade if he aint at his car when I leave....
Just seen a big yote bout 200 yds away. Trotting from across the feild. Wish he woulda seen my dekes. Got some 4 buck just for em if they get in range. Too easy to slip in a shell...
Been alot of logging of 50 70 yr old mature pine stands and bushing hogging of 5 7 yr old overgrown fields in certain areas on post.
86ing alot of Roosting spots and brushy nesting areas. This is one of the areas that has been hit. It does affect the habitat for turkeys. But the logged out areas also spring up alot of new growth browse the deer are drawn too for 3 to 5 yrs after. Has its plus and minus benefits....
How do you move goal posts? Kill a hen instead of a Tom? Claim road side turkey in a ditch is a trophy?
Read the intial post again "Bob"..... And get with Lamar Burton for your comprehension issue. Reading Rainbow 101..... Take that puralator air filter off your noggin too... It might help!!! LOL!!!! You cant shoot hens in the spring.... And I'm 700 yds away from a road.
Only boomstick I got for thunder chickens. Da 835.
Ya gotta register your firearms with the provost marshall/ fed cops on post to hunt. I got 3 on my sheet. 835 for turkey 930 for dove and small game Savage 220 for Deer.
It has actually deterred alot of people hunting on post and the background check non affiliated civilains have to do has also deterred alot also.
Bout up till 8 yrs ago when they put in the policy of wpns reg and background check alot of slim shady types were hunting on post.
Geuss if your clean and got nothing to hide policy. Then you can hunt on the military fed land.

This is one of the few areas on post where white birch grows. I'm bored as schitt obviously taking pics of trees... LOL!!! Might be some other subspecies of birch??? Dunno.....

When I first read it I saw "where the white bitch grows". lolol Wtf?
Yep area 09B Sw of LZ Heavy Beast on the LZ approach path Rolling fields on reverse slope bout 15 ft in the woodline watching EW edge for a couple 100 yds on either side of me.
Got the Bytches out on high ground to be seen on either side.
0 gobbles 0 hen noise I'm not calling Just gonna sit till 10ish Call it a day.
Go home and have some Geno,s pizza rolls with Blackjack and Baylor.
Not sure why you aren't calling. I've called in several Toms over the years that came in silent. Also, I've had situations where I never heard a gobble until I did call and then they hit it hard and close!.
Don't give on the scouting and planning work you have done.
I do like the feather on his ride.
Made me laugh.
This is day 3 on post for me. Monday I was set up on suckchon Dz On a double L break on the tree line. Had 3 or 4 gobbling for bout an hour. One came in on the opposite L on me bout 55 yds out . Could see glimpses of him thru the brush and small trees. Wouldnt turn the corner. No shot....
Left the spot found a spot to set along the length of that L,s long leg for the next time, based on what they and hens were at that morning.
I couldnt move on em that morning cause they was all down in open hardwoods and mature pines
Found 2 big ole roosting trees ground with big ole white cheetos curl turds all over the ground.

It's a hit or miss thing. Kinda waiting on one to hit the field and get its attentioo Know exactly what your saying though. BTDT. might throw out some yelps and clucks

Birdwatching and figgerin’ out trees and plant life helps pass the time. Took me forever to identify a climbing vine near my deerstands. Turned out that it was an invasive, not a native, and I’ve got one in my yard too, but without the berries like the ones in the woods. Euonymus fortunei.
If someone is already parked, you go to your next spot. Basic public etiquette in such areas. The person you are making fun of was more polite than you deserved. You are describing yourself as the worst sort of turkey hunter.
Also, dekes are cheating. This explains the want for the high pellet count pattern. You don't know how to hunt. Might as well go buy your birds at the grocery store rather than play with turkey dolls.
Stop harassing other hunters and learn to sit to a gobbler with honor and respect. You'll get much more out of it than the silly game you are playing.

I musta struck a nerve from that download huh??? Geuss you didnt comprehend my intial post.
Nice thought out post from ya!! Feel better now???
Can we have the paul harvey rest of the story on some of your turkey hunting post??? Cause honestly a pic of dead turkeys is cool. With set up pics using dekes or running and gunning is even better. Maybe you oughta show us some of those sometimes. Like your blind and dekes maybe You can say whatever you want on the web about a person. It's the way it is....
Getting a good chuckle here from your post actually!!! LOL!!!!
Good luck I killed my second bird of the season Monday morning. He came in not saying a thing, it was 10:30. Went yesterday afternoon and only saw 2 hens. Saw more birds on the 10 min. ride back to my house than I saw while hunting for 4 hours yesterday.

Things should start heating up around here now that the nights are getting warmer.
When I was in 21 running and gunning on saturday. I had 2 playing stump the dummy with me . Stop walk run using terrian Got busted once. And couldnt get ahead of twice. Took me on about a 3/4th mile goose chase. Lol!!! Walking back around noon diagonal across the DZ to the truck
Lol!!! I thought I was doing the right thing by not wanting to mess up tubby. But I geuss I harrased him sitting in his car and trying not to step on him.
LOL!!! But he had a game plan counter point for everything I said to Advoid being around him.
Thought I was being pretty white about the whole thing actually.... Im on basically 120 acres. And he has 600 + to go run and gun. Lol!!!!

Good luck. Raining all night sure puts a damper on their movement and response to calls, at least based on my experience

I bet you are the 350 lb lard ass type he encountered. OP explained how he was being considerate to the dude. You're a DB
I run and gun using terrian to my advantage when possible. I set up on fly down areas, which can bite ya in the azz if hens lead em away 180 opposite. I deke hunt I set up hooches inside woodlines over watching feilds in popcorn thunderstorms when no others dare hunt. I hunt rain filled pollywog ruts in roads when tracks reveal turkeys are hitting them as food source,s I hunt dusting areas. I hunt strut zones I hunt evenings set up on known roosting trees when they come back to em, if they get to the wing they get a free pass Next morning fly down hunt the roost tree or trees I hunt bugging fields.
Anything I know about an animals nature to include WTD. I will use to hunt them.....
I use every aspect of the a animals nature and habits against them. I wont be judged by a "purist" who proclaims their way is the only way. That schitt is TFF in my mind....
They give up to easily IMO at 830 9 am every morning if they cant call a bird in That has gotta suck not knowing much about what your game does thruout the day and giving up. To me the " purist" lack knowledge of the animal and how to use that knowledge is a shame.... Basically a hunting cripple stuck on one thing, the only thing they know from sheer ignorance or laziness.
Pellet counts and the reach out and touch one factor.. Has accounted for many a locked up bird for me over the years. 57 yds furthest 7 yds closest By whatever method I was using the dead bird in the pickup bed versus going home empty handed is what matters to me...
And of course for others and they are entitled to their opinons.

We've also got to the blind well before daylight and found someone camped out going to hunt over our dekes we left the evening before for the morning. We just wait for sun up and start picking them up real slow.
Well I guess I’m the same as Rene On public I always ask people where they are going so I don’t mess up their hunt. Being as public is the only places some have to go ,sharing with mutual respect is the adult way to handle it.
Unwritten rule is first in gets first dibs. I have walked away on a lot of x spots that where the place to be that morning. Just because it’s the right way to behave.
Rene you don’t need me to tell you this but you handled the situation admirably. You treated him how you would like to be treated.

I agree with this, for the most part, my buddy has several blinds he's built over the yrs, he's a fishing and duck hunting guide, it's how he makes a living. Seems the one he always has a problem with squatters is Margaritaville, big drive your boat in under a canopy blind he built over twenty yrs ago. It is built so a large group can hunt, set up a bbq pit or oven to cook breakfast. Cost money to maintain all those blinds every year, So when you pull up well before daylight with several hunters and there are two guys there who don't want to leave and go to one of the other numerous blinds it's a problem.
I'll add it's usually new guys who do that, most of the duck hunters know him and if they plan on using one of his blinds they'll call the day before to check if he's going to use it the next morning if he's not they're welcome to hunt it.
Flies loved it. He was Bytching about the flies being around him and schit while was scarfing those down. I moved upwind so I wouldnt have ta smell his minnows... Told him to throw that tin of obnoxious residue in a nearby sinkhole. After he drank the juice and licked out the residue like scales and schitt of course.

We don’t use any bodies blind. We use my layout, my waterfowler or build our own. If we build one it’s never near someone else’s I can find ducks
Brown HB meat, add a 6oz can tomato paste and taco seasoning. Let it cool and spread it on crust, add mozzarella and throw it on the BGE.
Remove and add lettuce, maters, shredded cheddar, onion and favorite salsa. Good [bleep].
That sounds pretty good man.
Use that giant pita bread stuff probably work with it all stuffed inside and wrapped in foil to keep the bread from getting crusty and brittle????
Yep, good idea.
The only reason I let it cool is you’ll just make a mess trying to spread it on raw dough.
You could buy sandwiches similar to it in Iraq. But it was fugging rough ground goat meat. Barf......
Their pizza idea was flatbread stone oven cooked. Smeared with goat meat paste Flipped and seared Then flipped again Then cold mashed up tomatoes and shredded goat cheese on top. Barf.....
Try and get 26 for tommorow. 1st time open this year. Know the place really well. Have killed some T rex toms outta their over the years. Taken 2 doubles outta the place when 2 a day limit used to exist.
Called slumlord bout 4 yrs ago about 3 miles away while he was arrowhead hunting in Trenton to come check out a huge Tom I shot in 26.

Yep. Guy was lucky. I hope Rene runs into him at Wally W.
How the fug did hunting go from whatever it takes to get the meat to the table, to being a sport, complete with umpires? Fugging Sioux were running herds of bison off a cliff to put up meat for the winter, now using a deke is gay? Wtf.
Guess I cheat, too. Watch this or that for a bit, know where its going to be at a given time of day, wait for it, kill it. Put in freezer or pan. Guess I need to be more sporting. Wander aimlessly about until I bump into said critter, then choke it out with my bare hands. Sporting chance, and all. 😂
