Using that nature of the animal thing against em again. Raining right now.... Gonna be on and off till 9ish per radar. Just gonna sit here and watch over the 2 Jezebel's. On a nice peice of high ground with about 250 yds of fully visible slope going to the east along these mature pines Sitting about 15 ft in the pines myself with a excellent veiw down slope into them to the south...
Dekes by the Roosting area in the clear firebreak.. Birds been getting pizzed on all night thunderstorms. They cant stand being in the wet underbrush . Hit open areas and shake off like wet dogs after fly down.
I know their are at least 3 birds in this unlogged mature pine roosting area. Aint heard a gobble yet. Not even gonna make noise till I hear em fly down and they start making calls.
I'm a Dick using a aspect of a animals nature and habits to kill em..
Birds are silent. Sometimes they stay on roost in weather like this for awhile. Aint heard no fly downs. All the other birds normally greeting the day are silent. Aint even heard no crows.
Are you wearing clothes? The real true purists donβt wear clothes. They rub their bodies down with charcoal and hunt them with a knife βtween their teeth. Lol

Rain and storms like this overnight. Animals and birds seem to be 1 to 2 hrs delayed in getting their day started. Crows are the 1st usually to get going. They been cawing and flying for about 15 or so mins. Bout an hour behind their usual deal.
Anything goes here, except airguns. Next door in VA, airguns are okay, even for Bambi-whacking.
Deer are kinda pushing it IMO, but turkeys would seem to be well within reason for a .30+ caliber. Iβve yet to see one I can afford that Iβd want to tote around the woods though. They look awkward.
nothing like a warm spring sunrise with some birds around. reminds me of hunting with the old man. he never got a turkey. of course turkeys were almost unheard of around here in the 50's-70's. we used to pile into the willys and head back the mountain at oh-dark-30 and usually be in the bar by 11.
dillonbuck probably knows where Shortys was. it was our regular stop.
Depth in this pic sucks. Slopes down into a creek bed that is rather open Bout 125ish yds down to south are 50 70 yr old pines and mature hardwoods. Where they was gobbling monday. Last saturday running and gunning took me thru this area playing terrian games with em
Bout 3 or 4 trees surrounded with cheetos all over the ground.
Aint no way in broad daylight Im poking in their. Birds be busting outta roost I bet if I did.
need to put out a bird feeder full of millet. brings them to within 25 feet of my house all the time. i don't have the heart to shoot the birds around here. be like shooting a neighbor or something. of course where i hunt, you're lucky to see 2 week old scratchings.
I gots da boomstick man. Rifle aint allowed around here.
LOL!!!
Savage 22WMR/20ga O/U, deadliest turkey combo ever. Pocket full of shells, but only one bullet. Ain't to hard to hide one bullet if the man comes snooping around. π€£π€£π€£
Shot plenty with a .22wmr I donβt like spitting pellets out. Shotguns are for shooting birds on the wing. You shoot a duck/goose on the ground youβd be chastised.
i shot a turkey once with a 243. unfortunatly i grabbed the wrong box of shells when we started out, in stead of solids they were 70 grain hollow points loaded to light speed. when i shot it all i saw was its mouth open up as it flew. within a bloodmist. later when i found the damn thing, i realized i had blown its leg off. not a mark on the bird
I have hunted and killed turkey with longbows, recurves, rifles, shotguns and muzzleloaders.
To heck with the purists, go out and have fun. If it wasn't for the fun of the spring season I would say kill them all. They wrecks lawns, hay pens and carry a disease that kills young calves.
I wonder what would happen if you stuck a big mirror in your decoys. Could be hilarious.
Have you ever seen them sneak shields that are mirrored some guys use to put moves on field birds.
Buncha vids out their.
Toms charging right up to em. Totally pissed off.
LOL!!!!
Thatβs because for all their wariness and skittishness, and their great senses, theyβre still dumb as....., well turkeys. Seen a bunch of videos where after one is shot the others pile on and stomp the corpse, like bison do sometimes. If the cameraman has a tag, the crew can switch places and whack another one.
Best to shoot them with a rifle is well before season, all bachelored up still. Recommend 30 round mag.
Purists would frown on anything more than a 5 round mag
Hey ... Your putting raisins in my apple pie right???
Soaked em overnight before adding em to the apples before baking right???

Half the time I don't know what you are saying, and arn't you turkey hunting? why are you making 50 posts when you should be enjoying the hunt? This forum has turned in to the same 5 people posting crap that makes no sense.
Iβll happily use a rifle, but donβt want a turkey donut, so shot placement or load choice matters to me. I think a .36-.40 roundball is about ideal. Working on something along those lines now.
Not at all interested in them as big feathery βgroundhogsβ. Too much good meat there, and no challenge at all. Iβm a jackass, but have limits.
They almost always flog the flopper, in my times out. Guess they think someone is crackin a hen. But often the are 2 or 3 toms on the scene. Funny to see jakes run in to get a jab in on a dominate bird. LOL
I had a spike buck attack an 8 point I had down. Kept gouging at his white belly fur. Had to wave it off after a couple mins. Though he was going gut him for me.
Aint heard a single shot all morning. Got 09b 09a 20 22 All around me and open for hunting. Cars were parked in other areas driving in here.
Weather and low pressure air might have em shut down gobbling all around???
Especially early if Toms are close to hens on the roost, thereβs no reason for them to gobble. Lots of times they talk quiet on the tree and fly down together. 10-12 after they finish with those hens they get mouthy looking for love again.

I loved taking doubles like that on post when it was legal 5 6 yrs ago.
Nother bird in the area Just let the one you shot do the curly shuffle. Shot one flogging the schit outta one standing on top of it.
2 back of the bootheel stomps couple mins later. Pita carrying 2 Toms out.
Last double I took was on this drop zone in the SW corner.
Coulda been a triple if it was legal. Had ta scare off the 3rd one.
2 11" plus beards that morning. On the wall of fans shame at the house.
Got a 10.5 and a 11.75 from last year outta the 3.
If I can kill one with a nice big ole fan this year. I might mount it with the other 3 on the wall.

Iβm thinking about trying Power Bait with a spinning rod. Why not offend two factions of purists at one time?

Lol!!!
Set up a buncha june bugs tied off with fishing line to a swivel stake.
Get hens running around in circles after em. Toms be chasing the hen that is chasing a june bug.
Some of the funniest schit is watching hens out bugging in fields.
Bout 2 more weeks here they will start feeding on insects as the weather warms up more.

We used to fly June bugs on sewing thread. Poor kidsβ Thimble Drome.
Used ta catch horse flies as a kid Shove a 2 or 3 inch peice of straw grass up its butt a little. Act like a rudder .. Gaining altitude straight line up into the stratosphere.

I have proven that wrong soooooooo many times.
Pics or it never happened co founder!!!!
LOL!!!
Thanks........
Now I got that song stuck in my noggin. And will Ferrell and the other guy bouncing their heads sideways from that movie.
First wild turkey I ever saw was when we were teenagers. Buddy promptly shot it with a 300 Win Mag. All we found were a few feathers and an oily reddish spot on the ground. That thing exploded like a can of Tannerite!
First turkey I ever killed was a hen with a beard. I didn't really know the difference, but I'm pretty sure the bear made it legal.
