Shadow of the Hawk.....scared me so bad at the Drive-In parents packed it in and we left.....Never have watched it and don't particularly remember what scared me but was a little kid so who knows.
They couldn't get the bloodstains off...and they used Bon Ami!
LOL !
I was 5 when my parents took me to see it at the Drive-In Movie in 1965 or 66. Had nightmares for a week.
Rewatched it on ME-TV last night on the “Scengoolie” Show. Probably the 30th time I’ve seen it. I still laugh at how funny Don Knott’s character in it is. Great classic !
Y’all ever get down here I’ll take you to the "We Slaughter" BBQ place. Where those scenes were filmed. Just down the road from here. The do a big business. Have kinda like a motor court set up behind there now where you can rent one of them little mini houses for the weekend.
Not scary in the traditional way but a total mindphuck.
Knock-Knock. Keanu Reeves
No spoilers but basically a Successful married guy. Hot wife has to go out of town for business. That night 2 chicks knock on his door after being lost in the rain. He lets them in to use the phone and dry off....
Put yourself in his shoes and it’s the most anxiety ridden movie I’ve ever seen.

"The Legend Of Boggy Creek" scared the shyt out of me when I was a kid.
Me too.
I’ve been there where they filmed it. Creepy place after dark.
We had a chair by a window in our living room that I usually sat in while watching TV at night when I was a kid. I wouldn't sit by a window after dark for about a month after watching that movie.
1975, Race with the Devil, with Peter Fonda. After the movie two friends and myself had planned to camp out. I wasn’t old enough to drive but the other two where brothers and one was 14 so he had a permit to drive. We didn’t make it through the night, out of a dead sleep we were awakened by a large crash out in the trees. We got up, fired our 22’s out into the trees, got in the car and headed for home. The next day we came back to collect our stuff and investigate. It appears that a huge branch had fallen off a tree. We were pretty sure Bigfoot had pulled it down in the middle of the night.

Are you certain Bigfoot didn't pull it down in the middle of the night?
And there was "Bare Wench Project" circa 2000. I understand it inspired some sequels. But the first was about all I could take.
As another has stated, I just do not have the "suspension of disbelief". So called horror flicks do not really phase me. My wife finds anything with flowing blood to be very disturbing. So we avoid the genre.
I remember watching "War of the Worlds" when it came out on TV. I was only about six or seven, but I was fascinated.
My Mom, on the other hand was totally freaked out. It was dark that evening when chore time came, cow needed milked and calves needed fed. Mom made me go along because she was afraid to go out in the dark after watching the movie.
The Exorcist is a classic based on a book of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The sequel Exorcist 2 was not based on one of his books and sucked ass however. But the 3rd film in the series (Exorcist III circa 1990) starred George C Scott and was actually based on Blatty's 2nd book called Legion. It is a really good horror movie. I highly recommend it.
Another good one I haven't seen mentioned is "The Thing" 1982 version with Kurt Russell.
I hated moths for years after seeing that as a little kid. Fuggin turn the light off in here, it's drawing moths. No need for a night light in my room.

That would be a hoot. I can get into kitschy stuff like that.
Had an uncle who took all his nephews in town to spooky-ass vampire/ghost movies back in the 60s.......we came out scared [bleep], then he'd drop our freaked out asses back home to his in laws.........got to a point real quick nobody wanted to go to the movies with uncle Frank no mo.
The Mummy with Boris Karloff. It wasn't even necessary to watch the movie. The nightmares started just by watching the picture/movie still in TV-magazine.
The Thing from Antother World (1951) with James Arness as "The Thing". I was watching this film at the age of 9 or 10 together with my younger siblings under the watchful eyes of my grandmother. When the nightmares started the following night my parents had do deal with and it was my poor grandma who got a shydtload of complaints.
Concerning "The Mist": Watching the first time was like a load of sleeping pills. But years later I learned to appreciate the art of the movie and it became a little bit more scary.
As an adult the scariest movie for me was the original early 70s "Last House on The Left". The main reason it was so scary for me was at the time we had a toddler daughter and a newborn daughter and psychos are real.
As a kid the two scariest movies for me were "The Tingler" and the 1960 movie, "Black Sunday".
There are no scary movies if you know it's a movie. Not one.
However, there are many terrifying things going on in this country and around the world that should get people on their feet and doing something about it!
But the cowards just watch scary movies to take their minds off reality.

The Mothman Prophecies was loosely based on real occurrences supposedly.
The only shows I watch are old Jimmy Swaggart tapes, from back before the Devil took him, and reruns of the Porter Wagoner Show when he was screwing Dolly.
Yep, Night of the Grizzly, 1976. I was 7-8. I had to look it up.
Nope. "Night of the Grizzly" was 1966.
"Grizzly" was 1976.
I remember it vividly because I was 6 years old in '76 and we watched Grizzly as a family in the basement of our new house. I held off going upstairs to use the bathroom because it was dark and I just knew that giant bear was up there. I finally couldn't hold it any longer and ran upstairs. Meanwhile, my oldest sister had snuck up and hid in the living room and came out of the dark roaring like a bear.
I was paralyzed with fear and pissed all over the floor of the dining room.

Have you ever considered reading your own posts out loud? Perhaps then you would realize how really dull they are.
My cousin was reluctant to even swim in a swimming pool for years after seeing Jaws. When he'd come over to swim in our pool, you only had to shout "SHARK," and he's swim to the edge at top speed and jump out in terror. I guess I was about fourteen or fifteen and he was about twelve or thirteen at the time. It was hilarious.
Alien... Came out about the time I started predator hunting by my lonesome at night.
And you thought the Alien might come to the rabbit in distress call?
Yeah dumb fuqk exactly
The Alien isn't real.
It's fiction.
No chit genius, you ain't real... The desert out here is a freaky place at night and when you out there by your lonesome for long periods of time walking around with a flashlight looking for a downed animal your imagination can sometimes run a little wild that's all I'm saying GFY If no one told you you're a moron today let me be the first.
The Omen. I was not a kid when I saw it and went home and slept with a night light on.
This. I had to read 6 pages to find the obvious answer. If The Omen doesn't creep you out, then nothing will. You guys keep arguing about second place. Silver Bullet has some darn suspenseful parts as well. It's favorite of mine.
I had a move scare the heck out of me as a kid. Not sure off the title. It appeared to be depicted in the late 60s or early 70s. It was filmed in a city, and much of the focus was on a large clock. Creepy old guy would peek out the windows of a tall apartment building at the main actors as they left and approached the building. That damn movie kept me up at night for years.

I love Silver Bullet. That is one of my favorite comedies. Man, that wheel chair could scoot!
The Fugging 1st exorcist movie. Me Louie Doucette Billy Bell 3rd grade 9 or 10 yrs old. Got in the line . Paid our admission. No questions asked about R movie and kids going in. Popcorn, cokes. Scared schitless once the graphic scenes started But we had rock star status at school telling all the other kids about the movie.
Occasional nightmares from it for a couple yrs after. 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴

If you think I care about anything you have to say about me, you just aren't thinking. But thanks for your continuously negative post that no one reads or cares about.

I always read what Ivmiker lays down. Plenty of members do.
He has seen the Elephant like many others on here. Have you seen the elephant in the big show??? 👍👍👍👍👍 for guys that have seen the elephant. Nothing but respect for em actually.
Look up what " seen the elephant" means in reference to its use during the civil war.
If you have seen the elephant yourself. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I will think different of you then also.
Ren, you crack me up. Rickety is scared of real life but by god he is on his feet and doing...something.
LMFAO

I may butt heads with alot of you Nam era vets at times. But I respect what ya all did going into harms way.
And we all know it wasn't for God and Country.
It was for keeping our men we seen as brothers and sons alive the best we could. And many of you know . Schitt just happens sometimes. If its your time, aint nothing can be done about it
We will all see one another on fiddlers green again anyways.
IMO, the 'best' horror movie of all time, by a wide margin, is The Shining, (1980).
Next up would probably be The Exorcist (1973), then, maybe, The Amityville Horror (1979).
Scariest would probably have to Night of the Living Dead (1968), mostly because I watched it when I was a youngster and it scared the Tarnation out of me - but I watched it through to the end.
The scariest horror movie for me was "The Shining". The overall scariest, depressing, disturbing and haunting made for the masses movie ever for me was "Sophie's Choice".

Mothman is creepy as Schitt. Call it a Harpie, or whatever you want, that shchittbird’s been hanging around as long as the written word.
Im not following the rules here but WTH, this was a 1966 film. Ive been a horror film lover from way back. The first horror movie I saw that really scared the hell out of me was "The Frozen Dead" with Dana Andrews. Saw it at the drive in, I was around 12-13. I hadnt seen it again until last year and recorded it....wasnt so scary now and kinda dumb. Anybody else get scared by this one?
The Manson murders scared the hell out of me that August 1969 morning I showed up at work at a little gas station store I worked at and my boss showed me the headlines.

Actually late 60s but saw it in early 70s, "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin and Efram Zimbalist Jr.. Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
When Halloween came out I was 18 years old and shared a house in Houston Tx w two other guys that we worked together doing drywall finishing.
One of the guys was 6’5” the other 5’10”. The smaller guy had his lil bro visiting from Mo. at the time.
I had a steady gf at the time that lived just down the street w her parents.
The 5 of us planned on going to the Sunday matinee showing of Halloween.
The gf & I ran late as we had to do something of great importance before heading to the theater.
When sh & I arrived the movie had already started, the theater wasn’t full but certainly a good number of folks there.
As I scanned the place looking for my crew, bingo ! They were silhouetted by the light from the screen & I could see the 6’5” guy in the middle of the two smaller brothers.
We slunk down the aisle quietly & sat right behind them. They were already so engrossed by the movie, they were unaware of our presence.
I don’t know what overcame me, but when it got to a really suspenseful & scary part of the movie, I reached out & grabbed big boy by the shoulders & let out a low guttural growl in his ear.
That big sob leapt to his feet, with a blood curdling scream sure to impress any woman or Comanche warrior.
Every head in the theater swiveled to see just who had been murdered right there.
I was pretty sure he was gonna kill me, but the four of us were laughing so hard he soon joined in.
God those were good times, getting in fights at Gilleys & the Nesadel. Bailing each other outa jail. Going to Bolivar Island, Galveston & other places. Bunch of idiots we were, swimming down streets in the floodwaters, wonder we didn’t die.
We sent the lil brother home w a giant bald spot in the back of his head, from getting the hair ripped out by a guy in the Nesadel parking lot one night. Bastard we caught up w him later there & got revenge.
