Posted By: STRSWilson Observations From A New Guy - 09/04/21
Many years ago I use to frequent the Campfire as I am an avid hunter/shooter. I decided to reenlist after reading so many threads about Covid. Lot’s of interesting discussions and a lot of opinions. Like everyone else, I’ve got mine. Not here is piss on toes, but maybe I can pass on a little insight and facts.

I retired from the healthcare field after 26 years. I was an infection control & surveillance instructor and worked with foreign health ministries, hospitals, doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, plant and mechanical engineers, and risk management departments. I’ve worked in field hospitals to the largest medical institutions in the world in 15+ countries. At the end of the day, I was a glorified janitor, but during my career I witnessed the Man Behind the Curtain and boy it ain’t pretty.

A few observations about our current state of US medical care, guidance we are being fed, and the pandemic:

1. Just because you have a Dr. In front of your name doesn’t mean you know everything even though you might believe otherwise. Doctors today are little more than union employees thanks to the Affordable Care Act and Medicare/Medicaid. It’s all about Group Think, and you either comply with the program or you’re cancelled and lose your career.

2. Today, the half-life of medical knowledge is less than two years. Most anything your doctor tells you is probably wrong or soon will be.

3. Not every medical solution comes from a pharmacy and a hospital. We like to believe the US has the best medical care and on many levels it does, but it is amazing the scotch tape and kite string medical innovation that happens in the most impoverished corners of the world.

4. US Hospitals are little more than Risk Management organizations. It’s no longer about Quality of Care, but managing risks and profits. Hospital CEO’s are bean counters focused on managing costs and liability and not on improving patient care.

5. US Hospitals are the only American industry that can kill 120,000 Americans a year through Nosocomial infections and employ doctors that kill another 250,000 Americans a year though medical errors and still remain open.

6. Defensive Medicine has turned into “How many bills can I submit to the insurer and Medicare/Medicaid?” Patients are little more than Cash Cows today. Check in and be prepared for a long, excruciating experience of endless tests and procedures while hoping that you survive the ride. Fun times.

7. Big Pharma controls the show. They control the FDA, they control the drugs available and promoted by doctors, they crush any outside innovation or competition, they control the treatment pathway, and they are in collusion with the Hospitals and Insurers. And like lawyers, they all get paid regardless of the outcome and have about as much emotional investment in the outcome.

8. Healthcare Workers (aka Nurses and PAs) are the real doctors today. I found few that were not invested in their patient’s well-being and were at a minimum, as knowledgeable and capable as someone with a Dr in front of their name. They save countless patient’s lives from medical mistakes made by their “superiors”. They are underpaid, underappreciated, and treated with all the respect of a disposable tongue depressor. They are the heroes of this pandemic.

9. US Medical Research Universities are controlled by and a slave to their funding sources. They produce the evidence based research they are instructed to produce. They, like virtually all other research institutions in the US, are professional welfare whores. Deviate from the plan and the funding evaporates.

10. The current pandemic presented the perfect opportunity for the largest power grab in human history. Politicians have become doctors and doctors are quietly complicit in the process for fear of being cancelled. In private, most of the US docs (that I know personally) who are still practicing are at a minimum terrified by what is happening. The retired doctors that I know are apoplectic with what they are witnessing.

The pandemic has been used as a political divisive tool to control group think and behavior; the Racism Tool pales in comparison. Every socioeconomic class has been shattered and pitted against one another.

And for the record, I am not vaxxed not because I believe in the conspiracy theories but because I don’t believe in the “science” that has been presented. I pour though PubMed and countless peer reviewed studies every day - an old occupational habit. I have not found any evidence that compels me to line up as an unpaid experimental lab rat. In fact, there is mounting evidence to reinforce my initial skepticism over the “science”. Contrary to what Fauci has promised, the facts show we ain’t mass vaxxing our way out of this pandemic and may well be making matters far worse.

In closing, question everything and do your own research. I do not believe ANY of the pandemic data that is being reported in this country. Politics, power, and money are controlling the narrative.... as it always does.

Thank you!
You can stay, new guy.

Finally! Something from a retired Dr. that sounds real!

GFY
Correction - Retired Janitor...
Can't disagree with any of that.
Great post.

Of course that's confirmation bias talking!

From a factory workers perspective.

Before we start a Bromance,

270vsCreed?

Miracle Whip vs Mayo?

Hellman's vs Dukes?

Beans?
My wife is a "get the most money possible for the doc/practice" business professional.

She says the same things you just stated.

Hello and GFY!
Awesome thoughts, many things you said are so true, it's crazy we stay functional. We are beyond fixing any of this mess.
I am awaiting Old Cooters response..... LMFAO

Good post and true
Dillonbuck:

270vsCreed? - 416 Rigby, but if I was forced to choose between the two, the .416 Rigby. I have been known to shoot a pile of .270 in WSM but I don't like to brag about it. I am not really a new fad sort of shooter.

Miracle Whip vs Mayo? Mayo (Miracle Whip is a desert topping and floor wax)

Hellman's vs Dukes? I am a Southern Boy - Only Dukes

Beans? Nope, Just BBQ

It appears that Booster Biden is getting ahead of the science. According to this, the FDA and CDC are pushing back on his plans. Some have resigned over this.

Based on an 8-month study, the President couldn’t find his azz with both hands, a flashlight, and a full-length mirror. Is he the one who should be making medical decisions for us?😱
You have just exactly confirmed my daughter's (BSN, Patient Advocate) opinion.
And, if you would care to opine...do you think a person in good to fair health condition, who just is interested in maintaining their health, is better served for primary care with an FNP or similar?

You could've just given the Cliff Notes version, that is, they all lie when they take the Hippocratic Oath.
YES! 100% nailed it. For those that only watch MSNBC, CNN, etc, re-read OP's post.
Whoever coined the term "money is the root of all evil" was more than correct... except he/she should have coined it: "money and the pursuit of power are the roots of a evil".
Elklayer you telling someone to use the “Cliff Notes” version is hypocrisy at its best. Your long winded copy and paste BS posts are famous here. So STFU.

Welcome new guy.

Yet you hypocritical closet commies here never have actually proven I have plagiarized any of my indepth postings here.

Don't be upset you fall on the far left-side of the Bell Curve, thus making you incapable of producing high C-Level documents......dumbazz.
Suspicions confirmed. It's something I've suspected from the very first time I heard about the coronacrap.

Hey dumbfugk how about you stay on point! I commented on your long winded posts not your plagiarized BS. At least you’re consistent. Consistently stupid.

Point #2 is also applicable to science in general.

Having a sick kid, we learned a while back to not trust anybody.

You have to do your own research and double and triple check every aspect ( from appts, established treatments, possible new ones, various therapies etc ).

YOU are the responsible person. Too many when sick or not, want somebody else to do everything for em.

Honestly, with as crooked, inept and fugged up as our medical system has become.....somebody of avg intelligence and drive is screwed.

You really need to bring your A game nowadays.

Just to deal w moderate health stuff.

Serious illness?

If you arent an informed hawk about everything youre friggin dead. A slow dead, so they can wreck your finances.

I have no faith in nurses NP or docs. Have seen em fugg everything up along the way.

However, good ones do exist. And the vetting process isnt fun. But you find em and they realize youre serious about getting well and it becomes a good relationship.

Hell, being an informed hardass ultimately makes their job easier, and more rewarding, as patient health improves.

But the avg person, healer or patient, is a POS.

Try to avoid the system the best you can ( eat right and exercise ).

My local hospital has acquired every health care facility within a 120 mile radius. They have a monopoly.
A couple years ago a federal agency fined them $24 million. Basically they were engaging in cronyism and referring patients to other specialist for test and more test, essentially milking the patients for every dime they could .
This hospital organization will either silence or terminate anyone that doesn't tow the company line. They promote yes men, promotions are not based on competence.
This parallels what the OP is saying.
And yes Heymen06 you can dismiss this as opinion, but my wife and stepdaughter worked for the beast and saw it firsthand..... also the fines are public record.
Oh and currently there is a major battle going on , the workers want to unionize as the abuse has been so bad. Not an opinion
Your post never surprise me because after all you are from Oregon. Whatever you do please never leave Oregon

Excellent observations
I’ve played physicians off of each other. Ask three the same thing, get three different answers.

I’ve had up to 5 nephrologists and surgical transplant nephrologists working with me at the same time.
The guys with their ‘hands in the goo’ actually impressed me more AND went along with MY recommendations to change my anti rejection meds to a different family of immunosuppressive agents based on my research and personal observations. Saved myself a lot of problems. Including further bone marrow injury.

Also played this with 2 cardiologists against each other.

I got a good people now after a chewing thru dozens of dead wood.

Spend about 5 hours a week reading white papers, medical studies, reviews and outcomes, plus patient forums, just gleaning person observations. I also spend about 3 hours a week dealing with insurance, billing personnel, and third parties.

Are you the Samuel L. Jackson character from Unbreakable?

Or 170 years old?
We no longer have a medical community of professionals that have the patient's best interests at heart. We now have a MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX that tows the line to their Betters/Masters.

I’d be a hell of a doctor shopper if the opiate game was still fast n loose. grin

New guy says, "I joined because you guys are sooo right"

Campfire responds, "yes, yes we are! OMG welcome! Tell us again. We love you long time..."
One biggie is when you do find competent physicians, theres usually a considerable wait to get to em.

Good docs like smart patients. Remember you from years ago. Even the staff does.

Remember, most who they are trying to heal are lazy and or stupid.
Covid is real.
Unfortunately it is also really political.
And the reality of the health care system ...is corruption.

Go choke on a chode.

What facts do you have?

Never said I had facts! That is an observation! Observations and opinions are different! Just like opinions and facts are different! You want to enlighten me and others with facts, go for it. I'm sure all would welcome facts!

Whatever you do please never leave Oregon
. I'm not dismissing anything. The OP opinion or your input about hospital. The hospitals across the country are all doing the same thing! Thanks to the obummer days! In my community the hospital has gone as far as trying to dictate where state and local buildings are built. Why because instead of improving healthcare by recruiting good Drs. They bought real estate, then tried to force the city and county governments to purchase said property! Another thing the weakest argument ever put forth by anyone is to stereotype someone because of where they live! Thats like saying all Texans are queer because you got buggered by a queer Texan! I actually thought you were smarter than that, guess not! My politics lean way right! To the point most call me radical! But then thats just opinion!
Welcome to the Fire Mr. Wilson.

Nice post, goes with what many here have experienced themselves.

Or Wanted.
Great post, OP.

Only news to the wishful thinking crowd, though.
After a lifetime of being healthy I got to experience the healthcare system first hand in 2019 and 2020. Two extended stays in the hospital with life threatening issues. I wont bore you with the details. But my experience very closely mimics the OPs thoughts. Like any business there are good and bad players. I was impressed with most nurses and PAs. A little less with certain Docs other than my own person doc who is a lifelong friend and hunting buddy I credit him with getting me straightened out long term. My surgeons and cardiologists were all top notch. Some of the others were sort of detached and just running in prescribing drugs and tests. Some necessary some outright BS. I cant say that I didnt receive quality care but there was a few times that if I wasn't questioning what was going on I may have had a bad outcome. I let the docs know who got offended when I had questions that they could either answer my questions or I would request they be replaced. Some seemed shocked by my boldness.
I got along very well with most all my caregivers and I tried to make my time with them as enjoyable as possible. I saw a lot of things that were great and some not so great.

good post. double like

If you or a loved one has spent amount of time in a hospital or dealing with a serious health issue you quickly learn that you and /or a loved one has to be a vocal advocate for good competent care and to ask a lot of questions or better yet get a second or third opinion if something does not seem right. Doctors do often make mistakes, even specialists. Many working in healthcare are burned out and don't care. AMA and CDC are political organizations and not be be trusted

Be proactive in your own health, eat healthy and stay active and exercise. Keep up on current health trends, About 80 per cent in ICU's during Covid are obese. Look at what Americans have been ingesting during covid. Over half of Americans, even children dont appear to even care about their personal health.

Well I think it’s sweet that you had an immediate attraction to that fella. I don’t care what anyone else says.

To the OP,
I have friends in Hospital Administration and the conversations I have witnessed validate exactly your post. I already had that view before your post but I like to think you are legit and what you say is accurate.

Boarmaster1,
I had almost the same situation and exactly the same experience.

There's a fix, but try getting it through the maze of paperwork, fighting lobbying from the Pharmas, BC/BS, the insurance industry, AMA, and .gov regulators.

You've no doubt heard of Credit Unions and Electrical Co-ops? Owned by the members (not some Fund in NYC or China) and any "profit" is distributed back to them in the form of lower rates and sometimes even a dividend type check. And every member has a vote

Our Electric Co-op, over 100 years old and still going strong, has the lowest rates and the best service in the State. The workers are paid as well as anywhere else, and likely better than some other places. A person, yes a real live ENGLISH speaking person, answers the phone when called about an outage in the neighborhood.

Sure, co-ops and credit unions likely have some bad operators, unlike just about all "banks" and Utilities, but I'd rather give my $$$ to a local entity than a large corporation that has the stockholders interests in mind and not mine.

Other than the roadblocks mentioned above, I see no reason a Medical Co-op wouldn't work. Docs would still get paid according to their skill set, just like engineers or credit union execs.
STRSWilson, thank you. About half of what you stated I either knew or assumed. Thanks much for confirming and coloring in the rest.

Best Wishes to you in your retirement.

PS- I'm guessing you're probably pretty thankful you don't have to deal with the brain noise nonsense personally, face to face anymore.
Everything you say is wonderful. laugh

Been there.. and did the same. Couple years before your incarceration.

PS- I had to put my foot down and damn near fight my way out of the fk'n place.

Just going with the flow, the new guy speaks truths.... The Campfire says yes yes yes! I can't bear it anymore, Im hitting the Walmart, with reciprocity... .
Get me a Chunky
I'll second, or third or fourth or whatever, the lust for billing.

I'm an unfortunate soul, was "saved" from Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1976 with cobalt radiation, 4000 rads per phase, about 40 times what the near survivors of the Jap bombs were zapped with. So, for decades I've been an outcast, uninsurable unless I wanted a safe government or corporate job, not the life for me. So I hoarded a pile of cash, and the INSTANT I started thinking I might be able to ENJOY that hoard, SPLAT.

Three years short of Medicare, well, let's just say the flames re-lit and I'm trying now to figure out how I'm going to end. But I'm six months and probably 80 grand into "diagnosis" and only now is the picture clarifying, and THAT's after a hellacious struggle just getting in to see the various practitioners, who are all fully siloed into their specialties and unable to accept the fact that peasant ME figured it out. I've got at least seven tumors, two gone (finally), two inoperable already, and two others still needing invasive biopsies, I forgot the seventh (oh yeah, colon, there were five there but nothing major).

But the billing has been an outrage. 21 grand ALONE has been for three body scans, yet those expensive scans weren't good enough to determine the condition of my prostate prior to them cutting me open. Jeezus Fin Chistopher!

Hellth care, that's what it is.

Besides that I'm pretty sure he choose not to be insured as Obamacare took care of being "uninsurable".
I'm not to sure about Mr. Wilson as he refuses to answer questions and he thinks Ivermectin is used for Lupus.

I got some soda I never heard of called Ale81, ginger and citrus? Some tonic water with quinine (because it will probably prevent the CoVage which I am very frightened of according to what's his name.) Nothing else regionally specific, besides possibly extra brands of pork skins. I was hoping for some of those frozen Jamaican beef breaded sandwich things in a microwave pouch, but, no go. They're south east only I think. Happiness was found in the form of WM chocolate ice cream cone 8-pack. They're an awesome treat.

Walmart rating, this is Ohio, not cool like Iowa. Very much darker here. This one is a 2 star, close to 3. Fuucking disaster area. Roof leaking without buckets to catch it. Steady rain from Nebraska across Missouri, Illinois, Indiana. Employees pretending to work. Chit misplaced everywhere. Playing jiggiboo music on the PA. Spray paint isle tagged. The trashiest white folk I've seen outside of Arkansas. About half-masked. They freaking eye-balled me intensely at the self-checkout! WTF?
