Local Captain D's here has been closed for months with a 'Help Wanted' sign on the front door. Apparently they can't get enough people willing to work for them so they can reopen again.
Rallys/Checker’s deep sea double is a good econo-fish option at 2/$5. I make no guarantees that it contains any fish, though.
For real fish, the perchwich at the Sanford Bar & Grill has always been solid or the fish sandwich basket at the Huron Fish market in Saginaw is great.

Fish House Cafe in Hilltop has a good fish sandwich. Get a side of fried okra too.
Place is wall papered inside with pics and articles of the muslim brotherhood. Some of the folk in there make it clear they don’t like whitey. If they start eyeballing me I tell ‘em it’s cool, I ain’t white, I’m a Jew.

Tartar sauce is a variation of sauce Remoulade. Google. Capers, shallots and gherkins or cornichon pickles in an aioli (or Mayo, not miracle whip) spiked with herbs including dill and sometimes tarragon, or whatever, usually hit with lemon juice more so than cider vinegar or any vinegar.

I don't think I've ever eaten at the Sanford Lake B&G, even though I am from nearby and visit relatives in the Sanford/ Hope area a couple of times a year.

Thank you Chef.
Probably the tarragon and dill in it. Not my favorite herbs. Don't even put them in the garden I like them so little.

Sullivans...
Haven’t been there in quite a while. Sounds like a take-out call is in order soon. Thanks for the tip.
I’ll don’t be gettin all mathman over some tartar sauce
I have zero tartar sauce qualifications. Don't really care for the stuff.
I never was a tartar/tarter sauce person until last couple years. I was able to try it. School lunch lady version scarred me for 40 years. I always hated sweet pickles too, but will have a couple of home made ones with pinto beans and cornbread.

local tavern used to make the best fish and onion rings around. then they sold out to some big titted yuppy woman and went all sports bar and now serve friggen salmon and other such nonsense. fortunately i knew the cook and got the recipes for both fish and rings.
so to answer your question slum, that would be me.

and horseradish.
I won’t fight you on that, but where I hail from, the horseradish is usually saved for Tartar sauce’s ubiquitous companion sauce - “Cocktail”.

haven't been in PA since '00.
Guess you'll just have to eat them fish all by your lonesome or with folks closer to you.
As for tartar sauce, Frisch’s is pretty damn good if you like a more bland no onions. The Kraft in the squeeze bottle gets the nod for fish sticks here
Anybody remember Burger Chef? They had fish sandwiches and even put tartar sauce on their hamburgers. They were around in the 60’s , had one in Pasadena TX that turned into a tittie bar about the time I graduated from high school.

Yep.
Nothing tops an ol' skool fish sandwich like a decent tartar sauce infused with Geritol.
The sushi at Kroger is actually pretty good. The local IGA does a damn good catfish plate lunch on Friday and Sunday.
Grocery store sushi?????????????
Wait until kamo_gari sees that!
The local Kroger has a pretty nice sushi bar in it, believe it or not. They imported a little Asian dude who makes sushi all day long.
How they managed to convince an asian sushi chef to come work at a Kroger in HillbillyLand is beyond me. He must be illegal, snuck over in a cargo container.

I bet whitey gets the “special sauce” on a fish sandwich there…. We walked into a church’s chicken in Norfolk one night, literally the whole place went silent and everyone in there just stared at us. I don’t think they’d ever seen white people in there before.
