With Biden's vaccine mandate on working Americans, Healthcare, Education and Military I would like to see all who refuse the shot to walk off the job and tank his administration to the septic tank.

i should have said food service. not sure if the numbers in that study include that.

all over around here businesses are closing, cutting hours and services due to not being able to get workers. i have never seen this before in my life.
There is no question that people have left the “service” jobs across the country.

Who is they ?
My grandson quit a job during that time frame. He quit for a better paying job with better benifits. I wonder how they count people like him. He is twenty three, I am not sure what people of that generation are labeled. They aren't boomers for sure.

I wonder how they count people that were terminated.

Wife and I wanted to "stimulate the local economy" Saturday evening. Called the local Italian place, we wanted to go have dinner there. Nope, not serving inside, take out only. Decided that would work. Wife got the pasta primavera. I wanted the baked penne. Nope, no penne pasta, distributor doesn't have any, we can make it with linguini. Ha, not for this fellow. OK, I'll go for linguini with red clam sauce. Nope, no clams either. WTF. OK, give me some noodles with spicy salciccia (sausage).

Get there to pick it up, talk to the gal working. It's not the Corona protocols stopping dining in, they can't find the help. She's the only waitress and said "I can't work all day seven days a week by myself"

In Oregon the other day for a Dr appt. Went to the falafel place. Guy told me he can't get his normal gyro stuff for the vertical rotisserie from his Chicago distributor. So I asked about hiring. He said he runs an ad, gets folks come in, then THEY TELL HIM WHEN THEY CAN WORK, not vice versa. "I can work Mon, Tue, and Fri from 11 -3". So he's running shorthanded.

Paint contractor buddy and another guy who works at the local casino have told me the same type of stories.

Sure glad I'm retired, as I don't have to deal with those kind of folks now.

But, the world is sure a different place than when I grew up.

I must be a whining Boomer?
Same thing for me Saturday.

‘Cept at Popeyes.

Doors were locked. Drive thru only.

Fugg me. Cant eat fried shicken in car.

Squealed the wheels and went to Jimmy John’s.

Build Back Better. Anybody think it’s better?
i would think that in board rooms across america, fast food execs are planning on how to convert all their stores to drive through only permanently. when you think about it, it makes real good sense. smaller stores, less staff and no dealing with Quaneshia coming over the counter with her floppy tits and smelly ass hanging out when she doesn't get her way.

Yeah, our sketties came in those plastic clamshell goodies.

Nowhere near as appetizing as on a real plate, at a table with a checkered cloth and a candle in an old Chianti bottle.

And the Walmart shoppers will be joyous.
I'm embracing this. My job is a dead end right now. Too much dead weight above me, fat and happy, not going anywhere. I may use this opportunity to relocate for a better job and more pay.

I expect management is as frustrated as you are. The guy that solves the problem will get rich.
$18/hr to start. If you can tack weld two pieces good enough to hold
untill a real welder can get to it.

Shouldn't take a day with any good old boy to be able to learn that.

Much better if you work on improving.
I think it's around $27 if you are pretty good.

That's here in a traditionally wage depressed area.

Anybody not pulling $15/hr is stupid for not quitting.

F those busting on kids.
Worthless is worthless.
Lotta worthless old bastards pulling a wage. Been doing it for decades.
If the kid is a POS, look at the parents.

My daughter has me dam disappointed right now.
Graduated this year, not pursuing an education.
Mine is the first generation to get a high school diploma.
She should be the first to get higher learning.

But.
She works 5 days slinging food.
And she is the one they call in on her off days.

That's on management for sure. Should have straightened them out a long time ago. That being said, I've worked in a place or two like that myself.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Hope she snaps out of it. Nothing wrong with working food service though, if that's what she wants to do. Had a HS friend waited tables at a decent place where we grew up, almost "high end". Worked 3-4 nights a week and took in more than I did working 5-10 hrs overtime in a union job sweating my nuts off in front of a giant oven. Good portion of his was 'tax free" unreported tips too.

You've earned it - enjoy it, my friend!
30 plus years running commercial kitchens. It’s a nightmare right now. Indescribable. You don’t want the help you CAN find. And you can’t do it all yourself either.

What line of work if I may inquire?
It would take $20\hour to find help.

Maybe more.
[Linked Image from media.giphy.com]
My son and his wife own a restaurant here. He has a prep cook making over $60K. His lowest paid employee makes about $18 an hour. 5 quit last week. He has hired two. It's a disaster.
On the other hand, they are making money hand over fist, with every week higher than the one before.
There's certain areas of the economy that have based their business model on taking advantage of the high availability of potential hires. Retail, food service, trucking, some agriculture, some construction, among otherrs. By hiring part time only, no benefits, not steady schedules, no path to improvement, or piece rate, they were able to keep labor costs low. Companies like UBER are built on this model. Nothing immoral or illegal, but a vulnerable business strategy.

Today, someone who is a good employee and has any sort of ambition at all can step up to a full time career position, full benefits often without even making the phone call. Truckers used to have to wait, sometimes daily, for four, five hours(unpaid, mostly), before they were loaded and or unloaded at a distribution center of warehouse. The grocery stores and food processors that kept their costs low by abusing the truck drivers they relied on now are complaining about a "driver shortage".

Restaurants hired people part time, and the worst of them would require staff to be "available" in case of an unexpected peak, without compensation. Irregular schedules so people could not work two jobs. Same with retail. Throw employees some hours here and there, but never allow them to grow into a full time position.

There's no shortage. There's an excess of middle fingers shown to the companies that have built their business model on the availability of cheap, abundant labor that had nothing but crappy options.
I'm in shipping/logistics and you wouldn't believe what flatbed drivers are making now days. It's unreal.

Had one guy in the other day and he said he was making $5.00/mile to run up here from Arkansas and most times driving back empty still getting paid $5.00/mile. Any load he picks up is cream on top. The load I gave him, was $3,800 to go back to AR. Granted, there are Broker fee's but those guys are making bank right now.

No doubt, it's close to bizarre.

But when you were booking loads for $1.35 one way a few years ago, you didn't think much of it, and those guys were working for less than minimum wage. And a lot of them gave the middle finger salute because of it. And ain't coming back, because they are making good money and sleeping next to momma every night.

Good for them.
Honest question...why are there jobs when no new jobs are being created? Unemployment benefits ran out, what are all the people that quit doing for money? Only jobs I see around here are $18 an hour...who can live on that?
I love how the article does not mention vaccine mandates, nor any losses in the healthcare industry and yet this is somehow Biden's fault because in the last month some employers have enacted a vaccine mandates. Let me guess. When this was happening 5 months ago, people were quitting because there might be a vaccine mandate someday and they wanted to start protesting early.

I guess cutting off federal unemployment didn't give you the results you wanted so now you are blaming the mandate. Perhaps we need to start thinking of another excuse when the mandate excuse doesn't work out for you,

Much like a month back when YOU were saying there is NO inflation?
And now you admit that there is but it MUST be Trumps fault?

^^^COVTARD^^^
Build Back Broke Economy. Those high wages truckers are making now are reflected in Biden’s Broke BCk Economy.
I heard our hospital lost 10% of staff over vaccine mandate, and they were already understaffed... that being said, management gets paid regardless...its the workers that suffer

I wasn't booking loads a few years ago. Changed professions and I don't have anything against them making good money. Good for them, I says.

Beat me to it.
Fair questions, if 4.3 million people quit their jobs, what are they doing for income? If you quit are you eligible for unemployment benefits? How many jobs were created during that period of time? How many people changed to a different job? With all the employers looking for workers, how many went to work somewhere else? How many quit over the vaccine mandate? I don't think we are getting the whole story here.
We never get the whole story, not anymore.
