One piece of meat for the cost of a center-fire rifle.

Not that anybody here ever needs a reason to add another rifle or shotgun to the harem.

Hurricanes in the Gulf, seasonal change-over, and government interference.

I was cruising past the meat counter this weekend and saw a rib steak with a price tag of something like $ 8.32. (Total price, not per pound.)

I picked it up to look and I swear I have business cards in my wallet that are thicker than the steak. mad
Canadians have been paying high prices for groceries for quite a while now.

They'll be eating bugs before long.
Thank God we just bought a 1/2 cow at $3.19/ lb hanging weight. Cheaper than stores or some butchers.

I've not seen meat sold by the kilogram before

Trumps fault

It has funny looking words that don't make sense on the label too.

This is why I always try to shoot a couple of tender does every season. You can keep the antlers, I'll fill the freezer with steaks, roasts and burger.
This is located north of the arctic circle.

I am not sure if they have cattle that far north, or just maybe beef is brought in by air.

For where it is located that appears to be a fair price.

That is about 30 lbs of prime rib.

Yeah the OP, well, didn't really tell the whole story...

If you bought the rifle instead you could get the meat alot cheaper.
Just blame putin

I got a whole Nilgai just delivered to my freezer.
Plenty of beef in there also.
Kinda hard not to see this coming. Gonna suck for the head in the sand crowd.

Converts at 2.2lbs/kg to 26.8 lbs of Angus prime rib, primal cut, at $15.86 /lb. A 6 lb cut of that trimmed would go for $94 bucks. About what you'd pay anywhere near a major city in the US for a roast like that. Of course, label doesnt say if its graded choice or prime. On the other hand, I bought a three pack of 12 oz USDA Prime NY Strips at Costco last week for $10.95 /lb., closely trimmed. I just dont see the huge spike in prices (yet)if you pick your point of sale.

Goddammit - don't you dare bring math and reasoning into this!
smirk
My son in Billings called up the other day and had found Rib Steaks on sale for $7.00 a pound. There was a limit so he got my wife and I some and himself. He wasn't allowed any more. He got those at Albertsons !
That was after my wife and I had just eaten the ones we bought at the IGA store here in town that were $12.45/lb.
They were good, but we won't be having them too often!

Part of the reason of HIGH prices was King Crab season was closed in Alaska ......

This ^^^^^ ... If you google Igloolik, NU, it becomes obvious that logistics costs might be a little higher than the local Piggly Wiggly...

Beef has become a luxury in keeping with the Build Back Better/Green New Deal/Great Reset that’s been going on the last several years.

Trust the plan!

Salmon prices might be sky high this summer.

They have been for at least a year, with farmed supplies constrained by the high prices/ limited availability of feed ingredients and the cost of airfreight.

Dutch,

Prices were up for us last summer a bit. We'll see where they end up this summer. I hear rumors. Cutting off the russian salmon will help too.

Why was it closed? Covid? People need to hang!

Since the tag is in kg, with French writing, I'm guessing it's in Canada dollars. So in reality, it's only like ten bucks.
