I prefer birch beer but can’t get that out here that I’ve seen.
It is hard to beat a draft A&W root beer. The canned stuff just isn't the same...

Makes a good float.
Not your fathers root beer is pretty good too
A&Root. I know it suffers from not having the panache of being an obscure regional offering, but it is still good.
buddy makes his own, better than any store bought.
First response is the winner.
I didn't know that it still existed! The first pop I ever had out of a can was Shasta. Pop from a can was new back then and it seemed so much cooler than pop in a bottle. I bugged the shirt out of Mom until she gave in and bought some.
I was at a pizza place last week that had bottles from a company in Wisconsin. It was really good.
I'll have to check next time I am there. I was with a group of people and they cleaned the place out.
When I was a kid there was a root beer shop on main street, operated only during the summer months by a couple of school teachers who made their own draft root beer and sold no other soft drinks of any kind. Actually, I think they sold little if anything else (it was a long time ago.) A big, frosty mug was a nickel.

This was probably Sprecher's. Commonly available at Menards, at least here in SD.

Never seen it, but I’ll keep it in mind.
Frosty Root Beer is what we used to drink as a kid. It was awesome. I'm not sure it's even made any more.

I forgot about MUG, that’s a good one too.
I agree, Barq’s sucks awfully
I had a bottle of Root beer made in England from a health food store once that was good. Can't remember the name.
Trick question?
They ALL suck, equally.
Sprecher's best soda is their Cream Soda
Rootbeer - I like 1919 and A&W the most.
Trick question?
They ALL suck, equally.
Go wash your mouf out with soap
I drive all the way to Kodak to get 2 cases of Dad’s from the Food City behind the Booger King 🫶
They got Dr Enuff in there too. That stuff cures cancer

You probably don’t like the taste of pepto either!
This is the best, bar none, from Australia !!
They make excellent ginger beer too !
I loved IBC until a few years ago. I don't know what they changed about the recipe, but it isn't as tasty as it used to be. Personally, I love Barq's. Dad's is a close 2nd and Kroger brand 3rd.
Truth !
Whichever one is in the green can and says Mtn Dew on it. That's the best one.
We like it.
Barqs is my favorite.
Bundaberg is good for the fancy sfuff.

Same/same
Mason's.
Everything else is a distant second.
A&W root beer out of a frosty mug.

I agree.....only root beer I liked

With a frosty mug, Absolutely THE best.
Friend in the service years ago traveled all over the country. Sent every kind and brand of root beer he could find to me. We got together and taste tested dozens. IBC was the winner.
Dad's used to be really good back in the glass
deposit bottle days
But alas, they went to the inferior corn syrup
sweetening like everyone else that makes
cold drinks. There's a couple of places within
a decent drive that have imported mex Dr Pepper
with the proper cane sugar sweetener, but
they're spendy
I understand the old Dr Pepper plant that the
corporate people closed up had reopened as
an independent cold drink plant, and sells
an assortment of cold drinks with the proper
cane sugar sweetener, but I've not made
the drive, and I don't want to mail order something
like glass bottle cold drinks
Many years ago there was a drive in joint
that made great hamburgers and their own
rootbeer. They'd bring it out in a frosted mug
and it was beyond criticism
It's been a tote-the-note car lot for a long time
I told my wife Menards sells the root beer we had last week
she texted back "We're going tonight!"
I loved IBC until a few years ago. I don't know what they changed about the recipe, but it isn't as tasty as it used to be.
I fully agree, I bought some a few months back, and after the first swallow I could tell it wasn't what it was a few years back.
Stewarts but only place I ever see it is Cracker Barrel
Abita is pretty good stuff but not widely available outside of LA and TX.
Culver’s the burger joint has a pretty good draft Root Beer but I’m partial to good ol’ A&W.
I'm one for always liking root beer. I also like cream soda.
This is the best, bar none, from Australia !!
They make excellent ginger beer too !
Their ginger beer is excellent especially in a Moscow mule!

Tried the ginger a week ago. Not what I expected since it was more of a ginger ale, not root beer. Would like to try this one, though.
HyVee grocery stores often carry a variety of root beers and I've tried several with my 10 n 12 yr old boys at home.
Favorites include
IBC
Sioux City Sarsparilla (my personal favorite but maybe sacrilegious to root beer fans)
Old Red Eye
Jones
My 10y.o. loved Frosties
Barq's.... but in the bottle.
Clyde
…is the one someone else drinks.
^^^^^^^^^ PUSSY ! ^^^^^^^^^^
Sioux City Sarsaparilla or 1919
Dean
We like it.
Barqs is my favorite.
Bundaberg is good for the fancy sfuff.
Full disclosure
My exposure to Barq’s was at CiCi Pizza
That may have upped the suck factor 🤷🏻♂️
Seemed bitter flavored though
You wanna talk really suck, patooey, yukk: Jamaican Ginger root beer. Ho lee fook ☠️☠️☠️🤮🤮🤮💩💩
Took the 3 left from a 4-pack and shot em off of a fence post with glock 19
IBC, but the local stores had stop selling it. Going to have to find another brand for a root beer float.
I haven't drank it since I was a kid, but back then I loved ice cold Frosty.
Waiting for the Mountain Dew version.....

I prefer birch beer but can’t get that out here that I’ve seen.
I order my Birch Beer online.
Yoders has the 2 liter bottle for $2.79 ea., but they charge for shipping.
https://www.yoderscountrymarket.net/PA-Dutch-Birch-Beer-2-Liter/item/DRDV458070Amazon sells a 12 pack of cans for $21.00 with free shipping.

Rat Bastard
....not the best flavor, but has the best name.
Fast food places out here all carry Barq's. It's worse than the bite.
I like Teddy’s, get it at Safeway or Tractor Supply.
Hires and A&W is what we had growing up. Haven't had any in years, but now I'm salivating for a root beer float.
Frosty Root Beer is what we used to drink as a kid. It was awesome. I'm not sure it's even made any more.
FROSTY MAN,FROSTY.Best commercial root beer I've ever drank when I was a kid.Probably last time I had a Frosty was in the 1960's
Had no idea there were so many different brands of Root Beer. IBC & Bargs is about all you see around my parts. I like root beer but don't have a preference. Whatever they got is what I'll order.
Had no idea there were so many different brands of Root Beer.
Likewise. I've never heard of a bunch mentioned nor ever had any on draft either.
I like IBC and A&W, and pass on Barq's. Been a long time since I've had any root beer though.
As for floats, I see them as a good waste of ice cream and soda. I prefer each without the other.
Frosty Root Beer is what we used to drink as a kid. It was awesome. I'm not sure it's even made any more.
It's available in north Idaho and was pretty darn good as a kid.
A&W zero sugar is the best I can drink these days. When I was a kidcwe had a A&W Drive In. I can remember mom handing me a root beer in a thick glass mug. I remember it tasted a lot better than that water that came out of the rubber garden hose we had been drinking out of all day.
Up until 1999 you could by a gallon of fresh tap root beer from a local A&W that was still a drive in with carside service.
Mom and Pop family from our church that owned the land, building and a long term Franchise lease going back to the 1960's finally sold out to Corporate for big money and retired to Florida. Good peoples.
Got turned into a drive thru KFC.
Nothing better than root beer on tap.

Last time I saw some was in Colorado.
We used to get it out of the Coke machines at the gas station when I was a kid in the late 60’s.
Good stuff back then along with Grape Nehi and Orange Crush.
We had A&W Root Beer drive-ins when I was a kid. In those huge super thick frosted mugs. That was the best.
We had a local chain that was a A&W knock-off called K&N Root beer. They were good too. Don’t remember seeing them anywhere else.
Prefer Hires.
It hasn't been available here for a decade.
A&W is the only other one I like.
Mug, is tolerable, Barq's sucks.
sometimes poemKinda rude.
Pretty sure you don't get Lebanon there either.
LOL. Do they still sell Shasta brand ?
My grandmother used to buy that crap when we were kids. It sucked.
I'm somewhat of a root beer snob. I've tried a lot of brands. Of the packaged root beer, Virgil's is by a large margin my favorite. Bulldog, IBC and Henry Weinharts are also good
LOL. Do they still sell Shasta brand ?

Or the generic crap.
Cola. Lemon Lime. Orange......
White can, black block letters.
What ever happened to generic stuff?
I haven't seen a white and black, no name product in years.
mom told me the first burger stand in our town when she was a kid was A&W
It was about 17 miles away and they'd drive up there to get a burger and a frosted mug of root beer. It was a real treat for them.
When I moved to the gulf coast, Barqs was big down there. You got a Shrimp Po'Boy and a Barqs root beer. It was ok but I never saw the must have appeal. They also had french dressing on tables at pizza places. Apparently it was a big thing to put french dressing on pizza which I never even tried it sounded so bad.
https://therootbeerstore.com/shop/Root-Beers.htmHere's a few more to try!
Never ordered any cause shipping is high, but would be fun to try a lot of different flavors.
You can brew you own pretty easy...
If you have kids... they love stuff like that.
I'm kinda partial to Virgil's myself! (GRIN!)
Virgil B.
LOL. Do they still sell Shasta brand ?
My grandmother used to buy that crap when we were kids. It sucked.
Shasta is alive and well. Both local stores carry it.
We have an ice cream shop that sells bottles of Virgil's. The only bottle I tried had a very strong black licorice taste. I couldn't finish the bottle.
There's a local company Called Diamond Bear brewery that makes one called Big Rock. It is Excellent, especially if you like a root beer without much carbonation.
I assume that everyone drinks root beer that is made in the USA.
LOL. Do they still sell Shasta brand ?
My grandmother used to buy that crap when we were kids. It sucked.
No, no it didnt suck
When you was raised on red kool aid like I was and living in a trailer park gnawing on liver-n-rice/ketchup
The Shasta was awesome
The grape and root beer 🤠
When the old man made it thru OCS and got his 2nd Lt, we moved outta the trailer park and ditched the kool aid and mayonnaise sandwiches
Now Diet Shasta, lemme tell ya, that sucked.

Pizza is damned good dipped in Ranch Dressing !!!
Never heard of anyone dipping it in French Dressing.
Must be those crazy assed Cajuns. 🤪
I assume that everyone drinks root beer that is made in the USA.
Nope. Australia here.
Henry Weinhart in glass bottle. The BEST!
Virgils does have a hunt of anise
This is the best, bar none, from Australia !!
They make excellent ginger beer too !
My reply above.
I always liked Frostie RB.
I’ll never forget going to A&W with my grandmother when I was a kid. Under 10 years old. Probably late 1960’s.
I’d get an “Itsaburger” and a frosty mug of root beer. Incredible!
A&W for floats with vanilla Hagen Daz rule
I like Stewart's and A&W with vanilla.
everyone of you has to be so jelly right now
