Just that. Prove me wrong. I’m speaking specifically to the “guys” that have an RV slot on a 1/8 acre in a northern state and refer to themselves as a xxxx resident. But in reality they have a second (primary) home in a warmer state.

All I ask is to own it.
Probably true. But a pretty smart move.

Yep, then they buy a 5 acre slice of heaven or 5 acre ranchette and instantly become natives of said state.

They don't have to worry about the primary home freezing up while they are gone.

A good friend lived in Montana for all of his life until retirement and then he started making the yearly trek south, after a few years he decided that it was easier to go north in the summer and not have to worry about things like freezing pipes, etc than it was to go south and spend the months there worrying about what could go wrong while he was away from Montana.
Not a bad logic, but he does not refer to himself as a Montana resident any longer though.

We have what we call “ halfbacks” in the Carolinas. Yankees move to Florida where they can’t take the heat. Then they move to the Carolinas, thus halfway back home. They are destroying our N.C mountains.

Jealous of what? The ability to be a pûssy? Lol.

If I wanted something I worked for it. If I wanted to live somewhere I made it happen. Now I’m watching a bunch of cûnts drive up the price on homes they have no plan on living in. I hope they all get monkey pox and die from aids. You want to live somewhere do it. If you can’t handle the winter sell and rent an rv slot.

They rent the FL home in the winter and use it in the summer.

He told me they get good rent money in the winter!

I'm gonna get me another RV and drive it up to MT every year, stay for 6 months so I can be a resident.

I might buy a little plot of land near Gruff, or Conrad.

Maybe nearer to Sam O, he seems nicer and also easy to please with a box of White Claws.

That Remsen fella seems OK too, maybe I just park down the street from him???

Our D-bag neighbors are snow birds. They show up about 4 months out of the year and bitch about everyone else when their yard looks like hell. They've got the cheapest smallest house in the neighborhood but complain because we have a chicken coop on our 1 acre rural lot. This week they're all upset because I bought an above ground pool for the kids. They say they are going to sell their house and move because we didn't even consider that they'd have to look at our pool from their back deck.

Wrinkly old lady that used to live in the bay area and then Seattle where she worked for Boeing. Never had kid so she thinks everyone else should have aborted theirs. Tried to guilt trip my wife about the pool I just told her call the realtor and we'll help her pack. Stupid bitch shows up a few months out of the year and tells us what to do on our property when we take care of theirs for free. She really overstepped this chicken coop and pool thing. I say move back to sewerattle or the gay area.

I've known a bunch of that type that buy
these " ranchettes " they sell here, then
expect the big place across the fence to

well not the whole winter. hunting and surfing sucks before about mid to late january... then stay as long as ya want. stags keep their antlers until about september.

tahr and chamois hunting is obviously year round but both don't get real good winter coats until mid to later in march.

then the roar kicks off in april.

january 20th to may 20th is about right. then get a few weeks in at home before the terrorists i mean tourist start swarming. lol

I know Kiana. My sister taught there for two years while I taught in Ambler. She had a janitor threaten her and I drove down and knocked on his door with my 44 Superblackhawk. He was nice as could be ever after and did her a couple of solids later on. They just have to know that you have people or grit or both and they fasten to you. I know the Shellabargers and the other folk from there. Squirrel river is a beautiful river.

Going to Kiana.

You should consider becoming a resident while visiting Alaska, lots of free state money and no income or sales tax.
The Alaskan resident hunting privilege is grand!

You'd be just like Ted Turner, just another outta stater that owns a entire county in Montana.

Happy 4th!
Posted By: deflave Re: Snowbirds are pûssies - 07/01/22
I never really dealt with any when I lived in Montana but I lived more toward the middle of the state and on the Hi-Line. The area Gruff moved to sucks.

But down here I see tons of them in the winter and I would consider them to be some of the worst human beings that are barely alive. Everyone says Canadians are polite but I do not agree. They drive like fugking schit and their brains also seem to process things at 50% speed. If I were Supreme Ruler of the land no Canadian would be allowed to set foot on our soil. And in all likelihood I would invade and enslave them.

I also can't grasp leaving the north in winter or fall because (to my mind) those are the best times to be there.

We will likely end up with two homes at some point but neither one will be in tourist heaven. I suspect that's the main reason Gruff is angry about them. They really flock to his area.

Plus he's just sort of an ass hole anyway.

A creek is the noise your knees make.

A crick is where you dump waste oil, or terminate the sewer line.

An ass hole that don't have a winter residence.

Just about every creature migrates to one form or another of a wintering ground.
The damn birds even have enough sense to figure that out.

Humans on the other hand make vain attempts of creating controlled environments in attempt to find year round comfort in a single location.

They either pay sky-high untiliy bills or endure a lot of manual labor in doing so, a lot of sense that makes.

Grinds on a guy as he grows older.

Gruff's just burned out from another winter gone by and finding envy for those that found a simpler way.

If I had to choose a Montana location today as a seasonal residence it'd be in the foothills along the eastern front, Augusta or north there of.

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what a “snowbird” really is.

A “Snowbird” goes south for the worst part of the winter. Any idiot going north for the summer would be a “Sunbird” or something similar.

My grandparents in the 1970s had a ‘cabin’ in the Blue Ridge Mtns

Then had their regular home in Brooksville Fla on 55 acres. They would go stay in at their cabin for 6 weeks during July-August.

The old woman was director of nursing at one of major hospitals in Clearwater. Must of had hella vacation tine built up or able to do those ‘sabbiticals’

I was a 8-12 year old house and yard slave at the cabin during summer school break

Covered porches on all 4 sides of a home successfully shaded the lower windows rather well, ceiling fans were key.

Don't snowbirds have to go north sometime so they have a place to go south from? This is kind of an enigma.

Looks like some significant tax advantages for a retiree to have FL residency. Summer is still much nicer up North. Seems like a good plan.

and who pay taxes on their property that help support local schools, for kids whose parents relocated from Pennsylvania.
My parents were snowbirds. After a lifetime of working in the cold of Minnesota and raising 6 kids, they decided to spend their retirement winters in Mesa Arizona. Anybody that has a problem with that can kiss my fugkin ass.

we who live in America are free to go when ,where and any time we want ,plus even carry a consealed handgun in America . i spend my winters in Northern Minnesota i like the cold ,snowy winters less people around too then . i have friends who are snowbirds good for them its just not my thing to go south for the winter . i was raised in the land/ state of four seasons , spring , summer ,fall , winter , i worked all my life outside as a lineman in all weather conditions so i am just used to it and still enjoy the seasons in Minnesota out in my quiet country life.

Yeah...the bitchy bastards are miserable when home...and then migrate in great drives to roost where it's warm and bitchy.

Pretty much nails it. I know somebody who, while not a snow bird, is very well off and did/does very well in the stock market.

Has enough $$ to do whatever but always so worried about that $$ it's painful to listen to. Gas goes up a dime and we have to make complete different arrangements of appointments and trips to town because a trip might cost a few bucks more.

No bills other than living expenses.

Owns some good real estate.

Miserable SOB when it comes to life.

Careful.

We have a big bunch of them here that go to Yuma.

I guess it's really nice down there. In fact...they all go to the same neighborhood.

It's wild to me...because they can't stand each other when they are here...but all move in next door together for the winter down there.

When they come back up here...they bitch about each other down there.

I think I would find a place down south with new and different people.
I REPRESENT THAT REMARK!!!!

Never thought about being a "snowbird", but now I are one!
In 2019, my youngest bought a home in S. Texas. We live in S. Oklahoma

So...yes! We are "snowbirds" in that we spend winters in south Texas.
NO....we didn't purchase property to set our RV on!
We don't even OWN a RV!

But I will admit this!
I am a native Texan. I was born and raised in Palestine, Texas.
I met and married an Oklahoma girl there.
My grandmother had property, my dad sold it.
My wife's family deeded us 80 acres.
So here I am in Oklahoma.

I have an Oklahoma "Lifetime Hunting License".
To hunt in Texas, a "non-resident" is over $250!
There are deer on the kid's property, but I can't see spending that much money just to shoot a meat doe!
I HAVE considered changing my residence from Ok to Tx.
As simple as getting a Tx drivers license.
With my.luck, I'm the one who would get raked over the coals and fined umpteen gazillion bucks for "illegally obtaining a license" or "maintaing a residence in two states to fraudulently obtain a hunting license".
So, I'll photograph the deer in Texas and do my hunting in Oklahoma! 😜

Yup, I’m a snowbird. I have shoveled more than enuf snow. Had to go to work EVERY day. There was no such thing as a snow day for me for 33 yrs. plus.
So, now we travel from NW MT to SW NM each early Dec. After big game season is over and I have a half dozen rooster pheasants in the freezer it’s time to head south. Not at all a bit embarrassed about such. I can hunt quail from early December through mid Feb. Then, off to TX to hunt feral hogs.
BTW, no snow shoveling. MTG
I was kinda deep into my cups last night, but I won't disavow the thread.

It’s usually the locals in each location that don’t/can’t travel doing the bitching.
Floriduh is pretty famous for bitching snowbirds while soaking up their dollars like like a fat kid eating cupcakes.

I was just thinking the same thing.

If I am a bitter fùck...I hope the kids are too I guess.

That way maybe they keep my farm open for hunting instead of leasing it to some prick outfitter for lots of money so the rich non bitter people don't have to hunt the same land as the working class slobs.

Some of those slobs drive their shìtty vehicles for hundreds of miles so they can hunt with their kids.

I just hates it.

Lots of flat landers here have second homes in the Sierra or on the Coast.

Didn't seem to be a problem many decades ago. Most of the locals welcomed the extra influx of seasonal money to economy.

Not so any longer. Increasing population, Shrinking real estate opportunities and movement of Marxist Libtards into those communities F'd everything up.

Several decades ago Deer season was still a thing for these communities. Now your looked on with scorn when busting into a cafe decked out in gear.

How about nomads? We flee the heat here for 5-6 weeks most summers. It is gorgeous here in the winter so we spend most of Sept-May doing road trips to Id.,WY. and Mt. Predator hunting in the snow is the best and the good places aren't crowded.

Judgemental folks are kind of boringgrin

Many of which we should revert back to, when was the last time you used a 10ft long crank to open a high window?

There was reason.

Lots of stuff not done anymore. We had sleeping porches. They worked good.

Wife and I are grateful for good insulation here. Starting a month or so back, when daytime temps were getting into the high 80's, open windows at night, close them and thermal curtains when the sun comes up, house stays cool enough for her (Coastal gal, 85 is "Hot" for her) until night. I just got the little window A/C unit out of the shop and into the master bdrm the other day as we're hitting 90+ on some days. Haven't even had to fire up the portable swamp cooler yet.

I grew up in the interior of SoCal and we had no A/C until well after I moved out of the house. Eventually the old man cut a hole above the front door and stuck in a window mount A/C as we had casement windows and he figured that was easiest.

Regarding the old methods, them Spanish adobes worked really well but I don't think the developers are willing to build houses with 2'-3' thick walls, verandas all around, and a plaza in the middle with pavers draining into the cistern for water catchment. They sure are nice and cool in the summer and warm in the winter when one gets a chance to visit one of the still standing ones from a coupla centuries back.

If you'd seen Yuma in the "olden days" of the 70's, you'd be appalled at the Yuma of today.

Hadn't been through there in years due to living up in NorCal, PA, and Northern AZ. Had to go visit my old man near the end of his life, drove from N AZ to SoCal, passed through Yuma and was stunned. Lots of very large snowbird encampments consisting of park model mfg homes with a big carport for the motorhome attached to the side. Think a somewhat upscale white trash trailer park. And with it came the traffic. A couple of years later I was in need of a late minute "get my tag application in" trip to the F&G office there and had to get off the highway and take surface streets. Holy gridlock Batman. Couldn't get through the next stoplight on the avenues before it changed to red again.

More services there now, more money flowing through no doubt and I bet the Chamber of Commerce loves it. But they kinda ruined a nice little desert town as far as I'm concerned. If the southern freeway didn't go through it, I'd likely never have a need to visit it ever again.

I know there's at least one fellow here that winters down there, so no offense to him. It's just no longer the place it was. A slightly different take on SoCal if you ask me.

I'm trapped on the gulf of mexico due to the heat grin As soon as I can catch a cool snap, I'm heading back north for the rest of the summer.

Dropping the back door and catching a cool wind straight off of the gulf is worth $14.00 dollars a day.

My wife's family hails from two small towns/country Alexandria and Petersburg, PA. They have a very nice (belongs to my wife also) cabin on 99 acres in Rothrock state forest. The extended family also has a big lodge on the property and the entire family just dumped close to 1M in rebuilding the lodge, employing a LOT of local construction folks. My FIL lives in Pensacola November-April, then spends May-November in the Cabin with my wife keeping him out of trouble. I drive/fly up several times.

We pay taxes in Florida and PA with significant contributions to the local community (he paid for rebuilding the Volunteer Fire House), local church & City Hall and a few other projects. In short, we contribute more to the community than most locals here. Once I retire (again) our plan is to extend our stays in PA through December. I don't see how ANYBODY would have an issue with this or most others here who contribute to BOTH communities.

If the green new deal ever comes about, you’ll probably be wishing you had given this topic a little more thought…FWIW, most mammals that have any sense and are capable, migrate with the seasons.
Name three that migrate from Montana to say, Texas.
Divers, puddle ducks and geese.
Mammals was the operative word.
Human naked apes then. Big brains give us an advantage...well at least some of us apes.

If the humans in MT were truly naked apes...................................

they best migrate south or they'd get mighty cold.

We don't have Sasquatch hair.

I think the bigger the brain the dumber the ape.

No snowbirds here. The subtropical portion of Texas/Louisiana is not a destination.

Just find a bar ditch on a rural road to empty them things into. Fertilize the wild asparagus.
That why they make cattle guards, or am I mistaken?
The only ones left in Montana during the winter are the ones who can't leave laugh

Don’t have the dough to leave.

I do believe I've seen, or maybe smelled?, that having been done while out and about.

Ha Ha.

Don't think I've heard that one before.

Filed for future use.

In the 2021 "Deep Feeeze" the oldest stayed in the house while we went south.
Temps here got to -12° with shoulder deep snow drifts.
Unbelievably, temps in S. Texas got down to 15°!
It didn't kill the mesquites, but it did a number on the palm trees down there! Few survived.

I didn't know southern OK would freeze.

We've tried snowbirding but are not very good at it. Longest we've managed to stay away is about six weeks. We miss the seasons so we always head back early. Otherwise, I wouldn't get to plough the driveway. In truth, if not for having relatives in Florida and in Nevada, we would probably not go south at all. Last year, on the way to Florida, we burned our trailer to the ground and were lucky to get away with the truck. This changed our plans for the winter. We'll try again. GD

You gotta be 100% set-up on both ends.

Air fare is cheap and quick compared to driving.
I go back and forth often, at times just for the weekend.

I can go to Montana from Florida in about 7 hours if I catch the right flights, I pickup a couple hours doing it.
Breakfast in Florida, dinner in Montana, snow machining the next morning.
Got my water setup to where I can dump the lines in the time it takes to have a cup of coffee and then outta there.

I haven't been south of the Yellowstone River in about 15 years.

Hell I barely make it south of the local Missouri.

This, for me.

I don't give a chit who lives where, and why. To each his own.

So many "conservatives" here judging other people's life choices, like a damn liberal.

Nahhh, not really.

It’s like how Burelyboy described. They show up, part-time, uninvited, non-year round resident/neighbor, an start slinging [bleep] around. They start the slinging. Not OK.

Seen it through about four property changes on either side of my families cabin up in NH. I don’t have a “we were here first” kind of attitude, but man, they bring some un-neighborly kind of attitudes with them. And when that happens, it goes down hill fast. Hence the changes of ownership. lol.

One thing I have discovered, is that Snowbirds DO NOT enjoy the discharge of firearms on an abutters property. No matter how proper and legal-like that shooting is done.

Exit stage left fast assss fuugggg

I should add, about 25 years and three neighbors later, we finally have some great ones. Excellent folks. One side.
