Oh boy !
Opening my stomach area, and moving my guts to the right side.
Chiseling apart l5 and s1 to insert a non organic wedge to start a natural curve back into my spine, then putting on a cage.
Put my guts backs where they belong, ( I hope ), then sewing me up.
Then rolling me on my right side, and cutting into my left side, and through the muscle to access l2 and l3. I have been floating those 2 for some time, so I have cysts inside with my spinal cord. Clean that mess up.
Sew me back up.
Roll me on my stomach, and cut my back open, remove rods holding l4 and l5, add screws to l2 and l3, maybe remove screws from l4 and l5, add new ones ?, and fuse l2, l3, l4, and l5.
Then do a laminectamy (sp?), and sew me up.
They will be keeping me for a minimum of 4 to 5 days to make sure my internals are working fine again, and have me walk 18 laps a day (1 mile) around the floor before discharging me.
I'm in for a recovery for sure.
No more pain I hope.
Have a cruise scheduled for February 5th. 2 months, I should be able to don a tank and do an intro to scuba diving !!
Here we go !
1 hour from when I took my 1st drink.
Good luck and God's speed with that surgery. Back issues are a beatch ... better to get them corrected earlier rather than later.
Good god splatter that is a metric f@ck ton of surgery!
Good luck!!

Gonna live up to your Internet Handle.

You’re one brave dude, or in such horrific pain that you don’t care how many surgeries the doc has to do at the same time to relieve the pain.
I’m pulling for you.

Good luck, have drank from that jug many times.
Shower, don’t wipe.
Thank me later.

That doesn't sound like much fun. Heal quickly and completely.
May the Go Well and Go Completely be with you!
Best wishes, Splat!
Best of luck to you and hopefully you will be able to out swim the sharks in February!
I remember my first exposure to “Go Lightly”. I was working a Saturday night ER shift at Harborview and getting a short report on the various patients in the various “rooms”. In one of the bigger Trauma rooms there were 2 little Asian guys in their mid to late 20’s handcuffed to the gurney….as I recall they were Thai. In a stainless “bowl” were several walnut sized or slightly larger balls and on the X-ray screen their X-rays showed they had a few more to pass before being hauled off to jail. Those little dudes had swallowed heroin balls wrapped in condoms and tried to smuggle it into the country in their stomachs. I don’t know how they were tipped off and found it but I’ll never forget the ER Doc laugh while telling me that they were giving them a drip of Go Lightly but unfortunately they were going everything but lightly. 😂
PS…Best of luck to you with your surgery.
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the kind words, and prayers.
Expulsions have pretty much died down.
Now, just drinking chicken broth, and eating Jello.
Not a big drinker, so clear liquids of the alcohol type isn't gonna happen.
Got things together, and contact info for the wife in case things don't go as planned.
You all are a great bunch here !
Good luck with the healing, you're getting a bunch of stuff done!
I'll Pray for you, and speedy recovery.
How did you injure your back in such a spectacular way?
military related
Hold my beer related
Sports related
Vehicle crash
Or just crappy gene pool?

Haha exactly what i was thinking and doing
How'd I get in this mess ?
Well, best guesses, I wore out.
20 years driving a rig up truck on terribly maintained dirt roads, could be one way, or maybe because I'm a pretty big guy, thinking I was superman one too many times, or ?
Got fixed 3 years ago we'll say, and the old saying is, you'll blow out above or below a fusion some day.
Delivering heavy freight for FedEx freight may have just brought it on sooner ?
Don't really know ?
Disc's are deflated, and or gone, vertebrae moving around causing cysts in with my spinal cord, pressing against nerves, etc.
I'm fixable the doc says....
All I know is, I haven't slept, laying down, in my bed, in over a year.
The recliner, in the livingroom has been my bed so to speak.
Any tests, mri, ct scan, were done with me sedated, so I could lay flat, and not be in pain.
Life has been pretty much on hold for about 14 months.
Went out on short term back in March.
MRI showed a big kidney stone stuck between my kidney, and bladder.
Docs wouldn't touch me til it was cleared out.
Urologist had to go in twice to get it all.
Got cleared, but had to wait because multiple doctors are involved, so everything had to be coordinated.
Thank God or oxycodone !
Tomorrow is the day I get fixed, and move on with life.
There it is pretty short.
Guys, watch your back. This has been a rough 15 months. You don't want to go through this....
Best to ya' and a full recovery!

Damn Splatter that's some serious wear and tear. I truly hope you find the pain relief and mobility your hoping for. Good luck brother!
Good luck, Mark, hope it goes flawlessly for you.
Good luck. I've had it mild, just compressed S1, S2, L1, L2, L3. No reflex in the right heel. Little limp. Another guy named Mark. Slipped off metal steps from a job trailer on to block steps.
I think a busted about a half dozen blocks when I hit.
Wish you the best and a speedy recovery
Well, prayers sent for a successful surgery.
PJ
May God aid your healing. Go Lightly. Yeah, right. I’ve Gone Lightly a few times. Have to hang onto the toilet seat to keep from banging my head on the ceiling. Feel like a jet boat on a mud flat.
Good luck and quick healing sir. I got a taste of your story in 2009 with my L5-S1 fusion. The first couple of weeks are hell then things slowly get better as you can move more.
Good luck.... have fun with that little green Fentynal button after surgery 👍
Can't sleep.
Nervous.
Thanks for all the thoughts, and prayers.
Antibacterial shower in just a few, and out the house soon.
Have to be at the hospital by 6am.
My lab is sure gonna miss me. Maybe as much as I will him.
Go Lightly is the worst misnomer in the history of the world.
Hope the surgery takes care of your pain and problems.
I'll add my wishes for best of luck to you and a speedy recovery. That seems like a lot of work all at one time.
Best to you splattermatic!
I had the same stuff in December of 2017, couldn't have asked for a better outcome! While recovering, they kept asking me if I had passed gas yet. Guess that's how they can tell if they put everything back in correctly. I would reply "I usually don't need to be asked if I've passed gas!", lol!
Prayers for a speedy recovery for you!
Lol !
I'll remember that this evening when I'm waking up.
Good luck, hope you have a good cruise in February.
Praying for a steady hand, a clear eye, and a full recovery.
I hope they don’t paint your toenails pink while you’re out.

in 18 I had three new discs put in my neck no fusion no metal none of that scraped out the old desk put basically like three hard sponges I guess in. I got the idea to watch the video of exactly what was going to happen before the surgery. I wish I had not have
Let us know how you are healing up and good luck on the surgeries!
Thanks all.
Really drugged up still a leeping lots
Hey Splatter, I feel your pain. 5 years ago, I had the double surgeries ordeal, I hope you do okay with this. I didn't. I was in pain every day for five years, Until 21 September of this year I got fixed. Yep, different Doctor, different Hospital, my back is almost pain free. My Dr. removed old hardware from the back installed new. The hardware I have in my back now looks totally different from the previous surgery. I did keep all the screws and wedge they installed from the front.
So now I'm fused from L-2 to S-1 as well my SI joints are fused. Two big, long screws on each side fusing that all together.
And two years before the surgery of five years ago I had my 4-5 L fused with rods and screws. I had had what is called a Spondylolisthesis; basically, my back was broke. Only thing holding it together was my spinal cord.
I know, that's a lot, but not all. I used to live in Montana, moved to California, Lots of reasons behind the move. Any rate we have lots of friends there. So, we decided let's go back to Montana and visit some friends. It was Mother's Day weekend, went to bed on a Saturday night was going to go to church with our friends on Sunday. I went to bed feel normal and okay, I woke up Sunday morning in great pain. Long story short going short. I called my family Doctor in California told him what happened. Monday, I start for home (driving) not much fun. He scheduled an MRI for me when I was back in town. My disc at 4-5 in my neck blew up. I knew the guy giving me my MRI. He came over and helped me off the table. He asked me what did i do to my neck? He told me, he was amazed I walked in there. That disc had literally blew up. Parts of it was throughout my neck.
So, I had a surgery to make repair in my neck. They used bone from a cadaver.
Now, this takes us to the surgery I had two months ago. When I met with the Anesthesiologist prior to the surgery I told him I had a fusion in my neck; and I couldn't bend my head and neck back like a normal person. He stated that everything should be okay. Well, when I became awake after the surgery, I had lots of pain in my neck. Two months later my neck still hurts. My lower back is great.
"We" are waiting to see if the pain, discomfort subsides from my neck before we proceed further. I have a bad neck pain for a little over two months.
Have faith in your doctor. I think you do. Because you said, you were going to get fixed. That's what I was saying too.
Five spine surgeries later, I feel much better. If my neck didn't hurt, I would feel like a new man.
I'll say a prayer for you.
Blessings your way.
I hope I got it all in there.
Awake a bit more.
Getting ready to sit up.
Feeling drug up still. Bad.
Stomach hurts from that cut.
Well you made it out of surgery and the recovery room.
That is good news.
It will take a week or longer to clear your lungs. I found hot showers and deep breathing helps clear your lungs.
Are you in albuquerque by change. And if so which hospital.
I may be able to stop in and visit if you are looking for visitors.
the visit will be based on what the Dr. will let me do after my visit about noon today. My wife is keeping me under watchful eyes and limiting what i can do physically. What little i am doing is over doing it in her mind. However she was a nurse for over 40+ years and has some real life experience to go from.
Wishing you a good and controlled recovery.
February will be pushing the envelope for your vacation. You will need to check to see if they will let you fly.
Dam get well soon, and hope that your pain free!
I'm much more awake now. Still not clear headed yet.
Lungs are doing great.
I'm in Mercy, in Durango, Co.
Took my 1st walk around the floor at 3am !
Catheter just came out.
Have your wife push the green button for you so you can sleep lol. When I had surgery on my stomach last month I would fall asleep but the pain meds would wear off and wake me up about every 45 min..... told my wife just keep hitting that button if it's lit up green so I can sleep lol.
Seriously.....don't overestimate how good you might feel.... they got you loaded up and will send you home.....you think, heck yeah .....I'm good, but when you get home all hell breaks loose..… make sure they give you some good pain meds to go home..... my dad had the same kind of surgery as you back around 04.... was tough recovery but said he felt like he was 21 again after about 6 months. Good luck.
Luck and healing to you Splatter
Isn't Durango where they do the sex changes? Check your plumbing...

IIRC - that was Walsenburg - across the mountain, on the front range.
Best wishes, and a prayer or two, for splatter. At least he should have pretty views from the window!
Praying for a full recovery.
Glad to hear things are going well so far.

That's a lot of hardware Splat! Hope your recovery is easy on you.
Holy Sheit they really screwed you together, good luck with your recovery.
I was under 10 hours.
Can't concentrate yet, they said with how much I got, at least 24 hours to clear up.
Praying for your full recovery. Well on the bright side you’ll have fun with the metal detectors.
Oh man! Good juju sent your way. Simply amazing what modern medicine can do at this point.
Think the used a DeWalt or a Milwaukee? My money is on the latter.
Praying for a complete recovery Splat!!!!!!!!!!!!
Continue with the prayers and good thoughts for healing.
Blessings your way.
Thank you again gentlemen, for thr kind words, and blessings.
Still in the hospital....
Get well ! There's a lot of Geese out there you need to meet.
Wifey has to start drinking it an noon today for a procedure tomorrow morning, her first time. What am I/She in for? All I know is I have to pickup kids from school today.
Take care splattermatic! I asked the surgeon what the torque specs were on the screws, he just looked at me! Lol! And I commented that if someone said I had a screw loose, I really might! My surgery was over 8-1/2 hours, took me quite a while to get over the effects from being under that long. Do your best to stay hydrated, it helped me. I too had the front and rear incisions, double whammy. I'm coming up on the 5 year anniversary of my surgery, completely happy with my outcome. They'll tell you to walk, walk as much as you can and then some. Follow the doctors advise on after care, be careful how much you lift. It was almost a year before my surgeon allowed me to have any PT, spine needed that much time to completely heal from everything. I listened to what I was instructed to do, did everything they said like my life depended on it and couldn't be happier with my outcome. Again, take care and best to you!
killerv, she's going to need help with everything, doing anything. From getting out of bed, the toilet, getting dressed... everything for a couple weeks at least...
Certainly NOT to take away anything from splattermatic! Only to show I KNOW what he's going through and going to go through.
Haven't passed gas yet.
Got heartburn. Doc says I'm not passing fluids past my stomach !!
X ray is scheduled later.
Do you still have epidural in?
You've been through quite the ordeal splattermatic. And I'm not just talking about that marathon procedure you just went through. The year(s) leading up to it all part of it for sure. Hope this works out and you get some relief.
Splattermatic: Here is hoping for a full and quick recovery for you!
Take care.
Hold into the wind

Splatter, often times the waning effects of the anesthesia and or analgesics will stall the peristalsis of the digestive tract.
I didn’t know if you still had an epidural, I had active thoracic epidural drip.
Wishing you all the best.
