Got my notice on Sat. Didn't keep up with inflation, but at least it's a few more bucks every month.
More than half the population does not save and invest, so we have to have socialized pension and socialized medicine.

The allegory of the ant and grasshopper is not now politically correct.

Jbmi: LONG.... ago I realized "SS" was not going to cut it for me and my intended lifestyle after retirement!
I made other plans - and my other plans are doing EXTREMELY well!
This upcoming "SS raise" doesn't mean squat to me.
My advice to those wanting a pleasing and comfortable "retirement" - make other plans than "SS".
Hold into the wind

Being better off than 50% of the country, isn't really hard to be, in today's world...

that is if you don't count the ones that are collecting 5 to 10 welfare checks per week, under that many different aliases...

or those that are doing that, while also being farmers and distributors in the Recreational Pharmaceutical Industry also...

and then having the wife and oldest daughters, down in front of Walmart with signs that say "Stranded, please help for gas money"
while hooking on the side...

while having their oldest son's out stealing cars and selling car parts on the side...

The pic is worth lots of discussion much of which has been held here at The Campfire.

We could start it off by saying that the grasshopper no longer has to be concerned for his immediate welfare nor worry and that we ants are obligated to care for the grasshopper by edict.

Put another way, the pic though not politically correct, no longer applies to our socialistic society.
Planning a European vacation, or perhaps an African hunt with all of the extra cash! 😉 memtb
Getting a whopping $150 extra, after the Medicare penalty of $362 based on my 2021 tax return.
I don't believe ss was ever designed to provide a complete retirement for anybody. The government mandated it and you know they are your benefits if you paid in. It's the politicians who have stolen funds for pork project funding and democrats who keep giving away ss funds to illegals and those who never paid in to buy votes is the problem. Mb

Yo, VG!

Lets not forget about Medicare monthly payments being reduced by $5/month!!

We’re making some serious bank here.
After the 2nd wed of the month I'll be moving on up to the good life.

Were you given a choice to have SSI removed from your paycheck?People did just fine before FDR passed SSI.
It is not an entitlement. Its your money coming back to you. What will you do when Uncle Joe gloms on to your 401K`s and IRA`s,cause he is going to.Hope you got stacks of gold hidden.
It covers my increased Medicare costs.

To many here don’t remember Al Gore’s SS lock box. Or all the IOU’s the Democrats put in the SS trust to fund the Grest Society. Remember you put in 7 1/2 percent as did your employer. Would be a nice piece of change if the politicians hadn’t slolen it. Forgot to mention the interest it would have made. Hasbeen
Just give me back the 15.3% forcibly taken from my income for almost 50 years.

So you are on welfare and have never paid into the system? In your case yes then it is an entitlement and not your money coming back to you.

You don't understand what the word "entitlement" means, probably willfully because you don't want to admit you are part of the entitlement class.

You also don't understand how a pyramid scheme works. Your money was spent a long time ago.

There has never been an SS fund for anybody to steal from. SS was just another income tax and the SS tax has always gone straight into the Treasury to be spent (and it was).
Victoro. This might be a little over your head.

We decided to take a cruise on the increase in our SS. The problem is, I don't think we will be alive when we get all that money...

I've been collecting SS now for 14 years. It is and always been my monthly allowance for my enjoyment, shooting, fishing, dinners out and other entertainment. Has never been needed for daily or monthly expenses.
I, along with others on here, learned many years ago about investments and for the 40 years of work I religiously added to it, This ,plus a very good pension for both the wife and I has made my 20 years of retirement very enjoyable. Fact is, we have not had to dip into our investments and it continues to grow. (Well except for the recent big drops along with the one back in 08)
I'm certain it will come back in a few years just as before. Right now it's scheduled to be given to our kids when we pass.
So the extra bucks in my monthly SS will be enjoyed as usual.
Yup and DJT still is a big NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!

For all of the details links are here

Last year my SSI cost of living increase was nowhere near enough to make up for the actual COL increase. But it was enough to place me in a higher income category where they eliminated my medical prescription benefit!
Jim,
glad to see you think the same about DJT

"Poor fugger!"

I truly believe the dumbshit won't be around to run in 2 years.

Swifty that can't be right. It describes SS benefits as entitlements and we all know that is a great conspiracy to hurt the feelings of boomers.

Also there can't be a change in net position, since they are just paying people's own money back to them.

I know it is the people who run the whole program and sign the checks who published all this, but it just can't be.

Again you have it wrong. The gov would do it anyway. Your non-saving neighbor is not the reason the gov does things. The gov does things to obtain and maintain power.

I'm taking my SS in October 2023. I will be 70. I did very much like what Varmit guy says. The SS money will be gravy.

kwg
As a pre-boomer who has been drawing Social Security for many years, I hope all you poor working stiffs continue to pay in through the nose so I can continue my extravagent and opulent lifestyle. whistle

Like I said the SS tax has always gone straight into the Treasury from the beginning to be spent just like all the other taxes. The Treasury was supposed to track it and to replace the it with Treasury notes (IOU's) to be cashed in when needed in the future. What LBJ did was to start counting the SS Treasury notes as assets because it made the budget look better and he could afford to create his "Great Society".

Economist Walter Williams has written a lot of good articles about the Social Security scam like this one."

I’m sure some of you older people can relate to this. My grandpa worked out and had cattle but my grandma was a homemaker and raised 6 kids. My grandparents only retirement was his social security check and they lived fine and their banking account actually grew!! They lived simple their whole lives, had a big garden and done some canning. We always visited every Sunday after church and she would put on a big spread and feed 10 or 12 people. This was how tight they lived she would call us sometime through the week and tell us what she needed from the store because they didn’t come to town but once a month to put the check in the bank, when she was done talking to you she would hang up on you, No bye kiss my a$$ or anything because it was costing them a long distance phone call which wasn’t much back then.

I knew several people that lived a pretty simple life but I don’t know to many people like that now. Heck Our family of 3 went to a Clydesdale farm yesterday and then went to Olive Garden and all that was a little over $200.
