I have many 98 Mauser rifles , butI would love to have a Winchester XTR chambered in .270 WCF and a Remington 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum . What's yours ?
One of the older Remington ADLs chambered in 7mm-08

Thanks for posting that again, Bob. While I'm at it, a best quality, Cogswell & Harrison sidelock in 375 H&H flanged magnum.

You mean one of these?
A 22 Hornet single shot, Ruger or Win.
Winchester 71
Remington 141 35 Rem
Ruger no 1 348 win
Had a couple on this list. Seems I move one down the road and then try and get it back or find a replacement.
Not most people's idea of a classic but I picked up one yesterday I've been wanting for a while. Back when they were everywhere and relatively cheap I didn't want one. Then the prices got stupid and I decided I wanted one. Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. Came with a decent Weaver 4x made in 88 so it has the safety but otherwise nice rifle.
Pre-64 Model 70 FWT Super Grades in .30-06 and .243.
Left-handed Sedgley Springfield in 30-06.
Pre 64 Model 70 Winchester in 257 Roberts. Since we’re just wishing, make it a Supergrade.
I'll take this wish one step further, Prewar Model 70 .257 Roberts Supergrade. DigitalDan, beautiful rifle!
M1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5x54 would be cool.
Or
An Oberndorf A or B model 1898 in 7x57.
But I’m currently enjoying messing around with two nice Mauser 8’s with "J" bores (.318").
Winchester 70 African in 458
Left-handed Sedgley Springfield in 30-06.
I bid on that rifle until it got too painful many years ago.
How about a Dakota 76 Mannlicher in 7 x 57.
A pair of Rigby's in .416 and .275 Rigby.
Left-handed Sedgley Springfield in 30-06.
I bid on that rifle until it got too painful many years ago.
Kid and his mom came into the shop about 15 years ago with a LH 1903 sporter he inherited from his grand dad. But I think it was a Mathieu Arms from Oakland Calif. it was a damn nice rifle!
Ruger No 1 RSI in 7 X 57
Mauser 98 guild rifle octagon barrel, ribbed, good iron sights, double set trigger in 8 X 57 or 7 X57. Perhaps a take down.
Savage 99 in any caliber
Left-handed Sedgley Springfield in 30-06.

Wasn’t the Mathieu conversion kind of gear driven?
A practical arm: a Kimber 84M Montana with a slightly heavier aftermarket barrel chambered in .223 and twisted 1:7 or 8......
I always wanted a Remington 600 in 6mm . I settled on a Ruger in 6 mm rem.

Yes indeed. It is a .257 Roberts and is for sale. Won't be cheap...

Yes!!! That was the main featureI remember about it! It really amazed me!!!
Wasn’t on any list, but ran into a Husky .270 yesterday that really caught my eye, as did a First Model K22 Outdoorsman at the same place. I was twitching back and forth like a squirrel trying to cross the road, and finally jumped on the Smith. Still have a hankering for a good MS carbine or rifle, and then there’s the Browning 1885 .357 Low Wall, but not really looking in earnest for either. Always interested in nice 98s, but have several so the ache is mostly in the background, except for that Husky…..
A couple I did finally get that didn’t stay long were a Browning 92 and a Ruger 1S .45/70.

Pre 64 Model 70 Winchester in 257 Roberts. Since we’re just wishing, make it a Supergrade.
You mean one of these?
Definitely classier than a Glock SuppaGrade....
1885 Winchester done up by Harry Pope.
A savage 219 in 22 hornet like I had when I was a kid
Any make of classic wood stocked capable of being scoped in 250/3000
A nice Mauser long action for my .257 Weatherby barrel.

A fancy wood stocked 1886 rifle in 45-70
Matching 1873 in 45 Colt

I don't have any levers at the moment. Will inherit a M1899 in 30-30 from my great-grandfather via my dad and a pre-64 Model 94 from my grandfather via my dad (ANIB). I'd like more, seem like fun.

THIS ONE!
I could be persuaded into adding:
Pre-64 FWT in 270WCF
Older Rem wood stocked 700 ADL or BDL in 270 WCF
BRNO full stock in 7x57
Kimber Talkeetna ……then have a very competent gun smith transform it into an AI!

I am pretty satisfied with this 1903. Lyman rear peep sight and a front sight with the brass ball. I did have to have a new barrel installed.
kwg
Winchester 1886 Extra Light Weight 33WCF, with shotgun butt.
I've always admired Low Walls. I'd like to have one just to be a range toy. Particularly if it was chambered in a straight walled cartridge that could be loaded with carbide sizer dies. Winchester makes them in .357 Magnum. But that would be a bit too low powered. I wonder how much trouble it would be to ream a Low Wall .357 Magnum chamber to .357 Maximum.
That would be a fun range toy.
An 86 in 33 win
An m71 deluxe rifle

M70 pre-64
Serial numbers 1 and 2
I'm pretty blessed I guess. Over the years I have cherry picked several estates that I have helped sell. I've got several of y'all's wish list guns. Currently I keep eyeing Remington 721/722s. I don't know why and don't really need anymore deer rifles. Maybe a Savage 99 in 22hp, 25-35. Still would like to find a Remington 14/141 in either 30 Rem or 32 Rem since I have boat load of ammo for both. Marlin 1894 Cl in 25/20 and 32/20 to go with the 218 Bee I have. What I really need is another safe. lol
Love my classics. 1957 model 70, 270 Win is my sweetheart. Also have a 1967 Browning Safari in 270. Outstanding wood. Small ring custom Mexican Mauser in 257 Robert’s is nothing but a cutie pie. Accurate and a deadly killer. 1918 03 Springfield, all correct, is special to me as well.
For now I have all I want but there will come a time when that likely will change. I have two dear friends that I've hunted and shot with over the years and both are 20 plus years older than me. If I outlive them and when their guns are sold at their estate sales I plan to own at least one from each friend. It will be more about the friendship and time spent with these men than anything.
I want an 1894 Winchester Baby SRC with 14” barrel in 30 WCF

No red butt pad, but it’s still a 6.5 Swede
Next to her little brother in 25 WSSM
I need another CZ 550 American in 9.3x62
The Winchester Classic line is crap compared to the true pre-64 rifles.
Wally Johnson's pre 64 Winchester model 70 in 375. IIRC it was a prewar. No finish left on the stock or metal and has more stories to tell than most other African PH rifles combined.

A Winchester model 64 in 32 special would get my vote too.

I know where you can get a pretty nice pre-64 Winchester 94 in .32 Win. Special at a reasonable price.
This rifle has a lot of history. It was the primary rifle for Capt. William Boyden who used it guiding in the North Wrangells from 1927 to the 1950s when he retired.

That’s sweet👍👍
Perfect chambering for a Classic Winchester M70. The only chambering that would be cooler would be 300 H&H IMO but between the magnum length action and 26” barrel I’d think that 300 H&H chambered rifles probably handle like a boat anchor.

Jack O'Connor seemed to like that chambering.
I haven’t seen any DGR yet. I’m working on getting this one finished.
It’s a CZ 550 Safari action that I bought from Wayne at AHR with his trigger upgrade already done. The stock I bought used from a member of another site. The barrel is a PAC-Nor chambered in 404 Jeffery that I had fitted by PAC-Nor. It still needs NECG sights and a barrel band fitted and rust bluing.

I don't have a wish list. If I absolutely positively have to have it, I buy it.
Damned near anything with a walnut stock on it.

Would also like a Win 88 in .358

What's wayyy too much? They bring money. Know a guy locally sold one for $4500. Was at a local auction a month or so back that had one, it sold for $4200.
I don't really think about a wish list, I just buy good rifles as I come across them when the timing is right and the price is either good, or fair if I want the rifle. I thought I was done buying rifles, but apparently not.
If I was to make a list of classic rifles I'd like and would buy if the price was right, it would go on for quite a while. I like a gammet of rifles.....the main requirement is wood stocked and blued.

Yep that's squint and wince money. Personally I wouldn't pay anywhere close to that as far as wanting one personally as they just never appealed to me that much, but I do know they bring money. 284's also. They had one of those at that auction and it went for 3K.
Win 70 Classic Sporter CRF... 280 Rem, 24" brl, 9 twist, with Handsome Wood... NIB...
Sako Manlicher 375HH LH 18” barrel. The one that got away.
I have a Krag in 30-40 and would love to have one in 6.5x55 to go with it
Many years ago when I owned a gun shop in upstate New York we bought a collection of Winchester M/88's. The guy had been going to gun shows for many years, bought every M/88 he ever saw. There were many fine examples of every caliber and configuration, both pre and post '64's represented. I regret not snagging one of the .358's back then.
An 1873 Winchester oct barrel 44-40 and A Colt pump action same cal. that by the time I got round to placing an order with Turnbull they had stopped making them.
Simple taste here. About a 1964 Belgian Browning, pencil barrel, Bofors steel, with original front and rear sights, W/hood, in 243. Grade 1. A nicely figured original stock would be icing on the cake. NO SALTWOOD!
Finnwolf
Ithaca Model 49 Saddlegun; it was my first gun
Win 70 Classic Sporter CRF... 280 Rem, 24" brl, 9 twist, with Handsome Wood... NIB...
I usually deer hunt with a classic featherweight in 280. I can’t imagine a better deer rifle.

I've got nearly the very rifle. Sako action, Belgian everything else, early 1960s Browning, no salt wood. Bought it New In Box back in the 1990s when its owner died and his son had no interest in it. $900.00. Yep, .243 Win.
I've only taken it to the range once (after mounting a scope), and it produced consistent sub 0.6" groups at 100 yards using standard grade, off the shelf, Remington 100 grain JSP deer hunting ammo. I cleaned it, lubed it, and put it back in the safe. Still there.
Only thing lacking is that you asked for a pencil barrel. This one has a medium barrel.

Prewar Model 1894 Winchester with the long forend. 30-30
Would have thought an AK74 would be more your style.
Sako Manlicher 375HH LH 18” barrel. The one that got away.
A LH Sako or Steyr with a stutzen stock always grabs my attention. This LH Dakota 76 in 7mm-08 slipped through my impoverished fingers at auction once. Somebody else wanted it a lot more than me. At another auction, I missed out on a Ruger No. 1H in 404 Jeffery for the same reason.
A Winchester 1895 in 303 British that’s in really good condition doesn’t pop up too often:
I really like my Ruger No. 1S in 9.3x74r. But every time I see a double express rifle in that caliber, I always look at it wistfully even though I have no practical need for it. I hunt with single shots a lot so a nice Blaser K95 or Merkel K5 in something like 7x57r would get a lot of usage. Left-handed bolt actions in 257 Roberts, 300 H&H Magnum or 35 Whelen are a bit like unicorns so they’re always on the wishlist simply because they’re rare curiosities when they appear. Fortunately I have everything I need so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything that’s important to acquire. It’s still fun to dream & look.
These three.

Speaking of 257 Bob, here is my pair:
Win XTR FWT & Kimber 84 Classic Select.
I have many 98 Mauser rifles , butI would love to have a Winchester XTR chambered in .270 WCF and a Remington 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum . What's yours ?
I am 76 and have most of my grail guns. I did find a very good condition 341-P to replace one I foolishly sold when I went in the Marine Corps. Still on my list are;
1936 REMINGTON 341-P - GOT IT
WINCHESTER MODEL 94 25-35 SRC WITH TANG SIGHT.
KIMBER MONTANA - .223
MARLIN 30 TK .30-30.

Sako wishlist-
AIV safari grade carbine in 9.3 x62. They exist, saw a pic of one that lives in Croatia. Sako A series carbine/ Kokotukki in .223/ 7-08/ 9.3x62 with the hunter style full-stocks. That would work for now. Oh and a box full of Warne Premier ringmounts for Sakos. Permanent and QD.
Winchester Model 71 Deluxe in the carbine version.
Can’t get more class than that IMO.
Have owned a few wish-list rifles over the decades, including one that was at the top of my list for a long time, a Griffin & Howe 1903 Springfield. Looked at several, but none had the stock-wood figure I hope for until this one came along a couple years ago:
But also own a few others, some already mentioned here by various posters, such as two pre-'64 Model 70 Winchesters in .257 Roberts, one a first-year production rifle; a pre-'64 Model 70 Featherweight .270; .30-40 Krags in original military condition--a rifle and carbine; a Winchester 1886 in .33 WCF, and a Winchester 92 in .25-20 and a 94 in .25-35, both made around 1900 with octagon barrels.
Eventually sold all of those, for whatever reason. The pair of pre-'64 .257s, for instances, were close to 10 pounds with scope, and I also have a Remington 722 in .257 which is a lot lighter. (It's somewhat odd to me, however, that the 722 and 721s are now considered "classics," since when they appeared in the late 1940s many gun writers, and others, hated them almost as much as some people hate Ruger American Rifles today.) I sold the pre-'64 Fwt. .270 because I ended up preferring my Jack O'Connor Tribute .270 more, partly because it has much nicer wood.
Still own quite a few others, including a pre-'64 Model 70 .375 H&H, a century old custom German 8x57JS on a 98 action, and a Savage 99f .358. Have owned several other 99s, including take-downs in .22 High-Power, .250, .300 and .303, but inherited the .358 from a hunting mentor, and eventually realized it was the only one of my 99s I was hunting with....
But am always on the lookout for more classics!
Winchester Model 71 Deluxe in the carbine version.

I've got the Browning version of that, but the standard grade. Amazingly accurate for a lever gun. Sub 1MOA from the bench, no scope. Just an aftermarket peep sight.
Back in the 1990s, I was working at a small gun shop, and it came in along with a Deluxe version in the same configuration. They were priced as a pair, but I talked the owner into just selling me the standard grade.
Have owned a few wish-list rifles over the decades, including one that was at the top of my list for a long time, a Griffin & Howe 1903 Springfield. Looked at several, but none had the stock-wood figure I hope for until this one came along a couple years ago:
That's quite a rifle. Beautiful!
An old Winchester saddle gun .44-40 would be my choice.
Pre 64 Model 70 Winchester in 257 Roberts. Since we’re just wishing, make it a Supergrade.
You mean one of these?
Definitely classier than a Glock SuppaGrade....
I thought that was known as the TuppaGrade.
Lotsa guys here have exotic tastes. Can't say I blame anyone for that, but I have to confess to being [relatively] easy to please...but, I do not test drive Ferraris and Lamborghinis either. I'm at the point in my life that a half dozen rifles I already own are all I need in the safe anymore, and the rest are going down the road. And, just to exploit this thread one of those that will be leaving at an undetermined time in the not-so-distant future is a pre-64 Westerner in .264 Win Mag (shooter grade, not a collector gun).
Some sort of Rolling Block or similar in 45/70 or 45/90. I would even settle for a Petersoli replica.
An old Winchester saddle gun .44-40 would be my choice.
Like this?
It's in .44-40, too. Although, I'd rather it be in .357 Magnum, or .44 Magnum. Hard to find .44-40 loaded ammo, and when you do it's grossly under powered. Like shooting a pop gun.

Damnit! You got all the guns. I remember you posting up a pic of a cool gallery gun a while back.
There are many to choose from. A Bison M70 or a Fisher. Kennedy, Shelhamer, Goens, Edmond, Weems. All did top quality work and the list is longer. To me a fine quality stocked bolt gun in a classic caliber is at the top of my list.
Well I must be a rifle non-snob...my first "hunting" rifle bought in 1983 or so was a Ruger 77 in 25-06. Only thing it killed was paper but it did a good job of that. 3/4 " group was easy at 200 yards with factory ammo. And like a true idiot, I sold it years later. And have deeply regretted it for many years. Oh well....
If someone else is buying, I’ll take an 1873 Winchester 1 of 100 please!
Guess I'm a simpleton. Model 70 Featherweight 280 Rem. Picked I up close to 14 years ago.

I used to have a pre-war Winchester gallery pump gun in .22 Short. Sold it some time ago, though.

That’s the one.
The nostalgia and that it was still chambered in .22 Short. Cool gun and cool piece of history.

I guess someone is happy to have it, now.
there's lots of in my wish I had back when I see what the price tags are on my classic rifle now..
One of them toward the top of the list would have to be a Winchester model 70 XTR supersporter chamber to 300 Winchester ..
Marlin 1894 38-40 too. My grandfather had one. He gave it to my Uncle so I'll never see it again

I gave one of those to my dad a while back. He really seemed to like it. I’ll probably get it back someday. Hope it’s a long time in the future though.

Thanks! It turned out to have been made in 1930, a few months after Ernest Hemingway's G&H 1903 Springfield....
The thing is real simple you should buy the ones you want I have bucket list myself. FJB and all his demotard buds are trying their damndest to get rid of the 2nd A and destroy the economy as well as the country. Nice to have some money in the savings acct but are you getting rich off your passbook rate interest? Mb
The first rifle - basic military Mauser in 7x57 - cost me $13.95 and I was very fortunate to have gotten it. That rifle led directly to more than 60 years of hunting, shooting, reloading, working on/building firearms and stock work.
I love the look/feel/meaning of the classic rifles - many shown above (thanks) - but the hankering to own certain ones never developed. Fortunately, a few did pass through. There are some really good shooting rifles here, and a few look fairly decent.
