Here you go, Suluuq .... not sure if this applies to Jennifer Love Hewitt, but IT OUGHTA! must say that I like an independent woman that you don't have to make decisions for, they are secure enough to be themselves and secure enough to let you be yourself. Married one many years ago and have been truly blessed, and darn, she can shoot better than me.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: What Women REALLY WANT : - 07/29/01
I'm with canyon man, if she's married....its probably to another woman!
Its more like what women don't want
ALASKANASSASAN, lol, i was thinking the same thing
Maybe you're right. Just another loudmouth lezbo. Too homely to find a man. Sexually frustrated liberal with a gun. Yikes! Guess that could be.
short243 .... you and I were probably just lucky. I met my wife at the trap range, and she won't take any crap, either! (Homosexual tendencies?) She also can outshoot me with shotgun or rifle, although I don't really consider that a plus. I definitely have not grown tired of her company, though. ~ Dan

Hey loud cloud, I'm glad your in touch with your female side..... We need guys like you who will listen to women like that so we won't have to!
Hey ALASKANASSASAN,
I'm sure there's a [bleep] of guys that share your views on women. Kind of makes me feel special.
Btw, what is an ASSASAN?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: What Women REALLY WANT : - 07/29/01
load cloud, Its misspelled for a reason you don't need to know.... As far as you being special.... Does that mean you rode the short bus to school?
Oh, I think we all know the reason.
(Gotta admit, though ... the "short bus" thing is funny.)

It was meant to be funny, I thought thats what we were doing, just razzing each other.
I can't attack you personally,(nor do I want to) I don't even know you....
To me she just sounded like a wet hen on a soap box...Thats my opinion! And I don't back down from it.
Lets just say you got more out of her article than I did and leave it at that.
Loud Cloud and AlaskanAssassan...what a primative attitude! Nearly as bad as the Boy Scouts my daughter outshot when working on the Shotgun shooting merit badge.
Learn this: Women shoot and women who shoot are not necessarily making a statement about their sexual preference. Jokes and personal opinons to this end are just not in the best interest of the gun owning community.
It is as Niki wrote--set your bias aside and re-read the article linked to at the front of this thread. She is correct and it must be hitting a bit close to home.
Fish Springs,
Sorry for my (apparently) unsuccessful attempt at humor through sarcasm. If you read this thread in it's entirety, s-l-o-w-l-y, you will see (I think) that I am siding with the nice lady that wrote the article. Others thought that she might be a little overbearing, or bitter, or .... well, whatever. I was inspired to start this thread because I like to hear of women who aren't afraid to stand up for themselves, and shoot the bad guys! The Jennifer Love Hewitt thing is a long story, guess you had to be there ....
Dan
PS .... Welcome to the campfire. You'll get used to our childish behavior before you know it. LC & AA - I read the article and from a ladies point of view it was obnoxious and not ladylike at all. All the points made may very well be true, but it is all in the delivery. Can I hold my own? Absolutely. Whether it is shooting a shotgun or my mouth off I can definitely hold my own. But for me there is just something very comforting in knowing I have some one (well not literally at this moment in my life ) who is there to protect me and make me feel safe.
I for one needed the laugh and appreciate the humor....now grow up you two or you're grounded .
Toons
Oh well, at least there is some passion for opinion on this site---seems fast reading and fast typing are not always in sync.
Hope you get to meet the Warnock women from Spanish Fork, Utah.
Last time I shared the range with them the 16 year old out shot a couple of deer hunters--she was in sitting position on top of the bench rest the hunters, seated with bags...it was great to see the M14 beat the 700 3x9 BDL 7Rem Mag...
Gees those guys took it hard.

When shooting to qualify for our CCWs my wife was putting all the holes in the bottom of the 5 zone of the standard police silouette. A deputy came over to help her with her grip. She told him, but it is shooting right where I want it too. C'mon on down and call her a lez. You'll leave a eunich.

Well I must admit that I just read that article and I have to agree with all that she had wrote and YES I am a woman and there are times that I feel that I am not treated as one or looked at funny for the simple fact that I like to hunt and shoot. There is nothing wrong me for liking to hunt/fish and many other "men" sports but I can deal with the looks and I for one can't wait to get my cc! Happy Hunting guys
Welcome, Squirrel.
I hope you're made to feel comfortable here. We have our misunderstandings, but I think we have a good group. Glad to hear you're going to have a carry permit. Its just too bad we have to get permission to exercise an "inalienable" right. Cheers!
Dan

Toons hit the nail on the head! For me I thought the womans delivery was waaaaaay to angry for me to even consider the subject matter. I could care less what she said after I got that impression.....If you don't like it....Tough
I thought she was tired of being treated like any less than an equal participant in our 2nd (and other) Amendment Rights and was saying it clearly, forcefully, and with some fairly subtle humor. I find it incredible that someone immediately questions her sexual preferences just because she is forthright in expressing her displeasure at being treated like someone who is not quite bright, or capable, or able to use weapons in an accomplished manner because of her sex. Like she said, GET OVER IT.

Well, well - seems I ruffled a lot of feathers with my little essay on what women want! Funny to see some of the comments...
"At least she's not bitter!"
"if she's married....its probably to another woman!"
"Its more like what women don't want."
"Just another loudmouth lezbo. Too homely to find a man. Sexually frustrated liberal with a gun. Yikes! Guess that could be."
That last was my favorite. LOL
Let's set the record straight, shall we?
I'm married to a wonderful man and we have three children - 1 biological and 2 adopted.
I'm a Libertarian and very active on the state level.
I am not - nor have I ever been - a liberal.
I am a Johns Hopkins University Graduate and an Army veteran, who's never shot below expert with an M16.
Sexually frustrated? Only when my husband is working.
Am I overbearing? Well, I'm a redhead, so some would say so.
I do not take offense at being called a "lezbo." My sister-in-law happens to be gay, and she's one of my closest friends. So those of you who were hoping to offend and those of you who were hoping that the moniker might make the message any less effective are barking up the wrong tree.
Now, contrary to some people's belief, I do not hate men and I didn't write this article due to penis envy.
On the contrary - the article was aimed at those men who attempt to disarm the general populace by using the excuse that women are weak, ineffectual and must be protected from themselves. Any women like that here? Better leave the room, because you're about to get offended.
Was I bitter when I wrote it? No way! I was ticked off! I had just finished talking to a fuzzy, unwashed, so-called "progressive" who tried to convince me that women must be protected by gun-grabbing laws. He actually tried to convince me that it wasn't feminine to shoot as well as I do or to own firearms! He actually tried to convince me that women were too emotional and uncontrolled to be allowed to own weapons! Wouldn't YOU be ticked off?
Point was this: women are just as capable of handling firearms and defending their homes and their children as men are. Using the excuses that we're too feminine, too weak, too emotional or too defenseless to handle weapons won't work. We're smarter than that.
Funny - most of the positive comments I got on the article came from men.
That is not to say that there weren't a couple of misogynistic, cave-dwelling knuckle-draggers with sloped foreheads who didn't waste inordinate amounts of time and cyber space jerking off into my email box about women's supposed intellectual inferiority and lack of logic.
Well, in a way I'm an old fashioned girl, so I let a couple of my very gallant, chivalrous male friends take care of that. Posted By: Sheister Re: What Women REALLY WANT : - 07/31/01
Nicki, Bravo! I'm not sure where your message was lost on so many, but it was perfectly clear to me. I've been around plenty of women who shoot as much or more than I do, (though I hate to admit that some of them shoot better!)
I volunteer at sight-in days at my range each year just before hunting seasons, and some of the women who show up look and act like the type who are "doing it for the boyfriend/husband" to keep them happy. However, most of the women are much better shooters right off the bat then most of the men. My take on that is they don't have the bad habits a lot of men accumulate by time they are adults, and they shoot calibers appropriate for their game, skill level, and abilities. In other words, they are very honest with themselves about what they can handle and what they can't and the results speak for themselves. I have seen some remarkable markmanship from some of these women with a little coaching.
However, more often than not their boyfriends have a rifle they can't handle because it is the biggest magnum they could find that day and they shoot lousy groups, usually blaming the rifle, scope, range help and everyone else for their problems. This is no exaggeration, I've actually had guys refuse to stop shooting even when they had tears rolling down their cheeks from the pain of recoil.
I've also found that women, once they find they are capable of keeping up with a man in this game, are more positive, confident, and fun to be around. Just let some low life POS mess with most of them and there will be a real damaged low life!
Anyway, welcome to the forum and I hope we see more of your posts. Feel free to be up front and honest, even though a few of these guys might get their feelings hurt a bit. - Sheister

I am especially sorry that YOU also misunderstood my intentions. I am apparently a totally incompetent writer, but I am not a sexist. I wrote that in response to ALASKANASSASAN, who said,".... if she's married .... its probably to another woman!" It pi$$ed me off that he would make such an assumption on the basis of what was said in your essay. My response was made tongue-in-cheek, intending to ridicule his assessment of your character. I have tried to explain this once before on this thread, to no avail, and finally gave up. Here I am, trying again. I think if you read through the thread again, you'll see that I meant to express my admiration and support for your position, not to attack you in any way. My wife and daughter are both quite competent with firearms, and we shoot together regularly. I don't like to think that people would mercilessly slander them, simply because they like to hunt and shoot and can take care of themselves. Again, I hope you will accept my apologies for any misunderstandings that I have caused.
Dan

Well written commentary, Tempest. Hmmmm, I thought those "fuzzy, unwashed progressives" fancied themselves the champion of women's rights. "...too weak and emotional" indeed! Some women ARE....but so are some men, so the argument boils down to (as it always does with "progressives"), "we don't want you to have guns so we make up any ridiculous excuse we can think of to deny you that right, even if we look like idiots".
Bravo, Tempest. Informed, confident, self-assured women are needed and welcome in the pro-gun ranks.
And, I might observe, women of that caliber are more attractive to the men I hang with than the clingy, "just can't live without you" type.

Real women, they are like that huge elk we search for. It seem women have different concepts about life and how to live it depending on who'se present at the time. They definitely don't need a gun to kill you. At banquets, parties, country club, social occasions, especially where other women are, they are weak,(can't open a door, manage a chair),need constant attention and want to be catered to. The majority are much weaker physically than men and are not capable for most physical work but but want equal everything especially pay. Women are much more capable than most men when it comes to managing children, social functions, hair salons, and the thousands of things concerning women. Face it, we didn't get to this status over night, it took thousands of years. When women want equal everything, they should think what they will look like with a mans body, and standing beside their car with a flat. -- no

Im not out to try to prove anything to anyone except myself that I have what it takes to do the things I love to do.
There are some good things about having a spouse that is as crazy about the outdoors as you are. We never fight about how or where to spent our time off. We both love sporting goods stores,Its real easy to buy gifts for each other. We both know that a good running truck will always be in our garage. For those times that come up when you must choose between house chores birthday partys or family reunions or weather we would rather eat or hunt LOL hunting always wins out.
OF course the draw back is that now you have to buy two of everything ---but I have never heard my husband say------OH darn I have to buy another firearm?

Hey, lovenlife! Thanks for the shot in the arm! I live in the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley in VA. 70 miles west of DC. I see you live in Aldie - I live 10 miles south of Winchester. Howdy, neighbor!
Muledeer4me - hi. One thing I've noticed about people - they think what I've said in my article is mutually exclusive of chivalry. I don't think that's the case. It's simple politeness to pull out a chair or open a door for a lady. It doesn't make one or the other person week or subjugated. It's simply good manners. It's a shame some people have to believe that it has to be one or the other.

That was a nice essay Tempest. I understood it and mostly agreed with it. I suppose it is all in how a person was raised. I was raised to treat women and girls with courtesy and respect just a bit more than men and boys. If a woman is a lady, and I don't mean moonlight and magnolias or shrinking violet type, I am bound to treat her as a lady. If she wants to act like a man then I will treat her like I would any other man. I have come to the conclusion that women can do pretty near anything they take a mind to do. I believe they ought to be encouraged to try any thing they want to try and also encouraged to be a lady while doing it. I mean it is hard to chew tobacco and spit lady like.
BCR
I seen a bumper sticker over in the next county that said,"Honk if you ever married Gene",so that should qualify me to give the definitive answer to the question,"what do women really want".The answer is{drum roll}:
All there is and two of the sacks it comes in.
Posted By: T LEE Re: What Women REALLY WANT : - 08/04/01
Well folks, my 2 cents worth. I was raised and still believe every body should be treated with respect till they prove otherwise. I will continue to open doors and hold chairs for women and be polite in mixed company. That said I also believe women are as capable as men in most endevors and better in some.
Why people can't see we all have our strengths and weaknesses is beyond me. Human dignity is asexual!
My wife is a public health nurse, my daughter followed me into law enforcement as a road deputy, both are excellant at what they do and I treat each as a lady as they have never given me reason not to.
I get very PO'd if someone is condecending to me, therefore I avoid acting that way to others. Simple ain't it?
Hope I made my point with all this rambling. I think this should be a non-issue anyway. It's our differences that make society work!

It probably doesn't matter to you AA, but I am going to ignore your posts until you are able to demonstrate some shred of maturity, which almost certainly means you will be ignored by me from now on. See.... I knew you Texas boys can't quit. haha Your just mad cause if I cut my state in HALF we would still be bigger!
if it flies it cries, What a fool you are. You started it all messing with my handle like a little boy. Go back and play with your livestock.....
Go ahead and shoot away, I'll be busy hunting unlike the vast majority here (and you know who you are) who only go once a year and probably use outfitters and guides. Then spend the rest of thier time staring at a computer screen trying to legislate morality to the rest of us......

Oh looky looky who decided to show his smarmy little ass up to make an unintelligent rebuttal! Is that the best you can come up with, Alaskan? For someone who claims to have a life you sure do spend a lot of time stroking off the computer just to **** off someone who disagrees with you.
Oh, and by the way, here's a word of advice, junior. If you want to be an effective ANYTHING, learn to spell. Or don't they teach spelling in public schools up there?
BCR - chivalry should in no way die. There's a difference, however, in being polite, pulling out a lady's chair or opening the door and treating her like a moron who couldn't handle a weapon to save her life.
7mm - Thanks. One big happy family, huh? Looks like someone in AA's family "knew" someone in AA's family - REAL well. A chromosome short of a homosapien.
Lovenlife - We haven't been hunting out here yet. We haven't been living here that long, and I've spent most of that time as a news anchor/disc jockey for WINC and WAPP. That means 16 hour days and very little else. We may get out there this fall, if we can find a babysitter to watch the little monsters!

AA - when are you going to stop urinating on your own shoes? I'm embarrassed for you, you poor pathetic sod.
Tempest/Nicki, I agree with you. I apologize if I was unclear. Years ago I taught shooting to 4H and FFA kids. Some of the girls, just like some of the boys became excelent shots. The two years that we won regionals we had two girls (cousins) on the five place team. Team members qualified by tournament shooting (double elemination) only.
The only difference in teaching was caused by my style of teaching. I can't teach with out touching. So when teaching girls I always asked if it was ok to touch them and had several kids or parents watching while I adjusted arms, legs and rear ends for the three positons. Didn't have to do that with boys.
Wish we could get more females in public positions such as you are. Most female reporters don't have a clue about firearms and hunting.
BCR

CAT, I think I have some Bronco fly spray out in the barn, shall we try it on AA? Wish you could still get DDT, that worked pretty good on TROLLS.
Re: AA - Here we go again. Notice the excessive use of CAPITALIZATION. The lack of content. Constantly stirring the pot.
Sigh.
TEMPEST/Niki,
I must respectively disagree with aspects of your article. You claim to know what women want. My take, is that you know what you want, and because you are a woman, you now present a case that this is what all women want.
Do I know what women want? Heck no, but I've got a pretty good idea what "my" woman wants, because she's pretty much letting me know, and I'm pretty much listening. And she disagrees with one of your "wants", specifically item 2. Other women in my past would probably agree with you 100%. Point is, different strokes for different folks.
Regards,
Scott

Well, I probably shouldn't... But, I thought I'd add my whole .02$ here.
When I first read the article Nicki wrote, I thought it was quite "meanspirited", for lack of a better word. I'm still not sure who the target audience is?
I also don't care for item #2.

quote:
2. Kick the father/protector act to the curb. Real women are realists. Yes, we realize that when it comes to brute physical force, most of us are not up to par with you guys. But your ideas about the so-called “weaker sex” are laughable and insulting.

As a husband, and a father of two daughters, I will always protect my wife and daughters! And if you don't like that...

quote:
Get over it.

I notice the "what real women want" is clearly spelled out in paragraph 1, and I agree with it completely. The rest of the paragraphs are just statements. Of which, some are fact. The others are just statements (paragraphs 7, 8, and 9), about some "generic" evil male, I suppose.
Now I know, that my opinion disagrees with the opinions of several folks here. Even some of the folks I really like and respect! Let's just remember, it's only an opinion on one article, not the end of the world!
Tempest,
You sound like a person I'd consider being friends with. Concerning this one article, I'm sorry if I don't give it "two thumbs up". But hey, ya can't please everyone, all the time! Take care, and let us know if you write some more please.
About the insults that have been going back and forth, I find them in poor taste. Let's get back to acting like we were really sitting across the fire.
