Dad and I. RSA September 2009

Here is a pic of me and my best friend throughout high school. He was a great football player and a ferocious competitor. He was blind in his right eye and paralyzed on his entire right side by the time we took this last deer hunt and he took his last deer, a huge doe. He learned to shoot lefty and wore an eye patch when shooting so he could continue hunting.

This was the last time he hit the woods, he died of brain cancer shortly after this picture was taken.

This bird was special to me in a few ways.
It was at a low point in my life and helped me reassess a few things.

I like a smokepole turkey! Flinter no less. Nice!

Nice watercolor style, does she still paint?

My wife does watercolor and Pastel. Enters six or seven things in the county fair every year.

She's a medical illustrator now.

She takes charcoal dust and does stuff like this.

One of the funnest hunts Ive been on in awhile. We all got one.

First day out calling with my old man. He missed one, I killed this one.

By far, my best hunting moment of my life so far. My little brothers first kill ever. A coues buck at 400 yards, one shot!

My silver beauty crashed out on the back seat of our Bonneville. She's gone from a cute puppy to a beautiful 70 lb. running, sniffing, hunting machine. Not to mention a great family/house dog.

Off-season entertainment - backyard squirrels

She crosses over and hunt squirrels too. And retrieves them for me as well. She's a little harder on the squirrels than birds - soft mouth on birds, but she caught a squirrel once that bit her on the nose. She has to give them a healthy shake before she brings them in.

Jay Leno and his wife went to Saudi Arabia before Christmas 1990 on a USO tour. Our crew took them from Riyadh Saudi Arabia to Al Jaber. I'm on the left end.

Started a new hobby of building guitars. It's always been hard for me to find one with the exact features that I want. So, I went with, "If you want it done right, do it yourself." So, here's my DIY Stratocaster. It's pieces of 4 different guitars.



Next weekend, I'm starting on a DIY Telecaster.

Thanks so much for starting this visual feast for us sir and of course a heart felt thank you to those folks who have contributed to make it so. To me, threads like this are the 'Fire at its finest or close to it anyway.

This is the view from a low mountain which is about a 10 minute walk east of our yard - looking south onto Vaseaux Lake.


Our eldest and I came back from cutting firewood to find a tense standoff in our yard..

Coming down from a hunt off of the mountain to the east of our place. We're a little less than 5km from home here.


Our youngest watching her sister dancing on the sand and of course the sunset as well from Kehei.


This is a personal favorite of mine in that it was our first family trip to someplace tropical. We all enjoyed every moment spent on that trip to Oahu.


A more "normal" destination for our crew - taken on a jet boat trip up the Green River south of Pemberton, BC.

Big Sky Country

It was colder than it looked. Not AK, MN, AB cold maybe, but here's a quick vid from a few years ago during a fierce Nor'easter that blew in from the North Atlantic. Air temps double digits under the donut, with sustained wind honking at 50+, with gusts to 70+, whipping snow in multiple directions at once with blizzard conditions. Time to get the boys on the boat and get into the salt marsh.

"Them ducks is gunna' be flyin' today, boys! Load up and shoot straight!"

I felt pretty certain on the first, as I have lots of pics of that one myself and I was fairly sure the second was Wagner falls since I've been to that one a lot, too. The third was just a guess, but I figured that if you spent that much time in the area that maybe the third one was Au Train falls.
