Just wondering where a good spot to roost is...
Information on your priorities would no doubt be very helpful.
Dallas or Fort Worth.

Climate, cost of housing, low density of illegals, high density of conservative patriots. Happy Trails
Ok you can come, but you have to kick out 2 liberals.

Anywhere in the southern half you will have illegals but better climate. Up north is the opposite. If it were just me, I'd look north of Grangeville, South of Moscow. You do give up some climate, but living is better. When I win the lottery, I plan on buying Sandpoint.
Head to the northern most airport in Idaho..then fly north bout 2000 miles...lol!

Haha! Yeah...no schit.
Where are the muzzies concentrated in Idaho?

I'm sure the old-time Idahoans would agree. From what I've seen, Idaho is rotting from all the Washington/Oregon/California people moving there.
Boise's nice.
Idaho has some great wolf hunting.
Boise is a LARGE CITY.

It's happening. They just can't leave well enough alone and have to spread their Attitude.
Colorado is rotting from all the Washington/Oregon/California/NYC people moving to Colorado and bring their stupid beliefs with them.

There are a few in the Twin Falls area, mostly thanks to Chobani. They employ a bunch of refugees. Nowhere do we have the problems of some of the big cities, though.

Back to the question: Idaho varies greatly. In the south you have the Snake River plain which is a lot of high desert. Desert, but not nearly as dry as deserts farther south. Lots of sagebrush. Almost all of the larger towns in the state are in the plain. It's a lot greener as you go north. The mountains start on the north edge of the plain and continue into Canada. There's also a narrow band of mountains south of the plain. The highest ones are fairly well south but the northern mountain are plenty rugged enough to make any adventurers happy. It's wetter and greener in the north. While the south has lots of large reservoirs, the large lakes are all in the north.
Elk are scattered all over the state. In the south, tags are mostly by draw. OTC tags are available mostly in the northern units. Mostly mule deer in the south, whitetails in the north, with lots of crossover. If you become a resident, wolf tags are only $11 and you can buy 5 of them a year. About $35 each for non-residents. 60% of Idaho is public land and it's all open for hunting. That's approx. 50,000 square miles. Idaho doesn't have a point system on draw tags. Every year you have an equal chance with everyone else.
Like to hike? Idaho's Centennial Trail runs from NV to Canada, 900 miles worth of it, and it covers some of the most rugged parts of the state. While it's less than half the length of the AT, it's all in 1 state, you can pack a concealed weapon without a permit (residents only) and has a 7100' elevation variation.
I used to live in E Wa , I loved the Bonner's Ferry area but tough winters up there.
I have lived in Meridian, Boise, Ketchum, Moscow, and Coeur d' Alene. I would choose the Riggins area if I was moving and didn't have to find a good paying job...
Yeah, there is that minor detail about jobs, isn't there? While Riggins seems like a good place to retire, at the same time you start needing medical facilities more often and it's a long ways to Grangeville.

We like Sandpoint but there seems to be an artsy-fartsy crowd there which means liberal bullschitt eventually. I don’t need employment but political climate is important. These mofos in WA are trying to out-tax Kalifornia. I think our liberal politicians are trying to beat CA and OR to the drain. E. WA other than Spokane is mostly conservative but out-voted by the liberal idiots on the I-5 corridor. Every time Seattle gets a pothole they want to raise our fuel taxes.
In the last election, there were only 2 blue counties in Idaho. One was Latah, home of the liberal Univ. of Idaho. The other was Blaine, home of Sun Valley and all the rich Californians. Boise is getting more liberal as out of staters move in but only a few precincts were blue. All of Idaho's US senators and congressmen are republicans although Mike Simpson wants amnesty for illegals.
Wam,
If you don't like artsy stay away from a 50 mile radius of Moscow.
River corridor along u.s. 12 is a great climate, but tons of those coasters already are here.
And it is still being carved up into 10 acre chunks all over....even out in the brush.
Also, it's on the Rez, mostly.

As for Riggins,
I've always thought of it as a good retirement spot too.
I'll bet the 35 miles to Grangeville takes no longer than driving to the doctor in Boise traffic....
You need to like rocks, heat and tourists, though.
sorry we are full.
Many current residents would recommend you move to Pocatello. Because after a year or two there, you'd go back to where you came from.

So many have moved into there that now Boise, Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell are becoming a megalopolis.
I can remember people complaining about all the effing Californians moving in when I was a kid. This was in the 1950's and they just keep on coming. I love Idaho but there are just too many people. GD
If we were to move away from Boise, it would be to the Grangeville area. Nice country, also around Orofino, out toward the Red River country.

L.W.
You want peace and quite. Dixie.

Hillary won 51 of Boise's 94 precincts.

WAM,
sorrry for that post of mine. It's just that Idaho is growing so fast these days I hardly recognize parts of it anymore. Hope you find a nice place to live.

Ada County (Boise) voted Democrat in the Governoritorial election last fall, and she was/is a raving left wing libtard
I am not a resident but spend several months a year in that great state and have seen most of it. My choice would be somewhere between Salmon and Leadore. I have yet to meet an unfriendly person there and the terrain is breathtaking.

Pfffttt.....I have been east to west...north to south in Idaho.

No amount of money could get me to live there.

The interstates are crowded with drivers that make Montanan's look like pro rally drivers and the speed limit on the two lanes is 9 miles per hour. 9!

Its fugging awful.

Wish everyone felt that way!
One of the funniest things about Boise is how people uproot their entire existence to move there, but are too stupid to learn to pronounce the name of the place they frikken live... Grandpa used to say lots of space could be cleared for good folks if you went through the state and every dumbazz heard saying "Boyzee" was summarily escorted to the border and forbidden to return.
Look at McCall.
Over 7 %state income tax. That would keep me from moving there. Idaho is almost as bad as Utah about taxes. From what I have seen I like Ashton Idaho area. Idaho also has way less public lands I wouldn’t like that either.

I truly believe that by two Presidental elections from now that Boise will be Blue. There are just too many Liberals, Latinos, Middle Eastern, and African immigrant populations (brought in by the Churches) that the tide is inevitable. With the growing Latino populations all across the Snake River plain (southern Idaho), and the African Immigrant and Middle Eastern population that is growing there it is inevitable.

Going to Boise now is more like going to California than being in Idaho.

Cambridge would be a nice place if you didn't need a job. Excellent hunting, a short drive to various reservoirs on the Snake for fishing. Not many people.
Any city with more than 2 stop lights is too large.
The county I live in is 5000 sq miles and not a stoplight in the whole county.

You guys have got to learn to quit blaming other states and look at the problem as a whole. Hillary won the popular vote, they are increasing in numbers, sooner or later they move and effect every state, just like they did CA.

Liberals chases wages and weather to CA, now they run to Texas and CO for low taxes and jobs. Unless we somehow get a hold on the education system, EVERY state will be overrun. Just look at how liberalized the whole country has become compared to forty years ago, now tell me why the country will stop moving in that direction?
Gay marriage? Thirty years ago, not on your life, now damned near anywhere. Legalized pot? Same thing. It isn’t just a few states, it is the country as a whole moving in that direction. Educators are the same in every state!
Well, there is Atomic City, idaho - thinking maybe a place could be bought cheaply there.

Atomic City was called "Midway" until 1950, as it is halfway between the towns of Blackfoot and Arco. The town had a larger population when the neighboring Idaho National Laboratory site was newer, known as the "National Reactor Testing Station" until 1975.

There is one store and one bar in Atomic City; the store no longer sells gasoline, due to new laws pertaining to its underground gas tanks. Most of the people who were raised in the town are now deceased, and many of the current residents are retired. There is an RV park on the south end of town with full hook-ups, and stock car races are held in the summer.

Not too crowded either. -
As of the census of 2000, there were 25 people, 16 households, and 7 families residing in the city.

Build the wall!

Obama brought a bunch of Somali, Sudanese, and Arab refugees into Boise and Twin Falls. Liberal areas are Sun Valley and Driggs/teton area. Home prices in Boise have tripled in recent years due to the number of Californians moving in. Boise was a great place to live 15 or more years ago.

Southern Idaho does have a lot of migrants and farm workers. Some places are still pretty awesome depending on what you're looking for. Taxes aren't really that low here. 6% sales tax on everything you buy even food and Amazon. Almost 8% income tax. Property tax isn't terrible depending on the town and county.

Salmon is a bit isolated but has good hunting, fishing, and recreation with enough stores to find what you need.

Bb
I had a "Rigby" sandwich the other day: turkey, mayo, and Swiss. It's pure white, same as Rigby.

Then there's Malad, just across the line from Utah, and the town that annually sells many times more lottery tickets than anywhere else in Idaho - all to Utahns.

Or Burley. City slogan: "It's HOW far to Boise?"

Or Mountain Home. City slogan: "We have an Air Force base somewhere around there."
One of my lifelong best friends just had a home built in a rural ranchette subdivision outside of Idaho City.
He wanted more rural but his wife wanted to be closer to hospitals and ammenities.
I went back and visited him, it is a beautiful area.
He had a herd of elk in his front yard whe
He just took his Idaho trapping course and will be a threat to the wolf population this coming winter.
Idaho got redder when you got that Californian...😁

So you are one of those Johnny Come Lately dudes who moved in and act like you are homesteaders and have the “I got mine so fugg all the rest of you” attitude! LOL!

Btw, I wouldn’t go to Tejas if paid to do so.

No he didn't
FWIW, Atomic City is where you go when you don't want to be found. Roberts and Dubious are also that kind of place. All three are places that you don't buy a house in if you think you'll ever need to sell it quickly.

I'm in the Blackfoot area and it works for me. Close to big-ish cities if I need something I can't get here.

Kind of like Evanston, WY that stays in business selling beer to Utahns.
I could live in Dixie. Or Pierce.

They sell a lot of beer, fireworks, lottery tickets, and before the internet, pornography in Evanston. Utahn’s have an insatiable appetite for that chit.
I always thought the porn shops around Evanston were targeted to the oil and gas workers. Silly me 😆
Elmer Keith was right. Salmon it is.

Montpelier? If you like snow. Ashton? if you like even more snow.

Really that's all you need to know about Idaho. Snow. Lots and lots of snow. Snow, snow, snow. I suggest you look closely at Mississippi.

I used to live in McCall when it was a logging town with a mill as well as Riggins when it had a mill..Now McCall is a tourist trap with hoards of people coming up from the valley on the weekends which makes outdoor stuff suck anymore..Riggins isn't much better when the Stealhead and Salmon run making fishing more like combat fishing..

Pro's and Con's to about everywhere to roost..It's all give and take.

In the summer it's heat. Desert heat. And dry. Your skin will be crackly all summer. Your wife will be buying skin moisturizer in 5 gal pails. Do they make SPF 75 sun screen?

For years, I've used a snowplow on a Craftsman garden tractor. The plow's wearing out and 3 winters ago, we had enough snow that my tractor could hardly handle it. It's not made for that. So, I bought a new plow for my UTV. In 2 winters, I haven't used it yet.

Oh, and let's talk about Spring. Spring usually falls on Tuesday and Wednesday. You'll go straight from long john's to needing to wear shorts. But you won't wear shorts because the wind and dust will scour your skin raw.

Do check out Mississippi......
Pick a spot in Idaho with the worst weather and fewest coffee shops and you should be fine and virtually liberal free......
Why Does Boise Have More Refugees Than NY And LA COMBINED?

Obama got even with us for opposing his regime. I hope he suffers horribly.
First time I went into a small town in Idaho I stopped in the bar to have a beer. All 7 residents were there and they told me about the local "hardware store". If you had something you could donate you took it down there and put it in a big barn. If you needed something you went down there and looked around for what you need. The place was full of stuff. There was even a 1954 Packard in there!
