All I know is that they keep stuff cold for a really long time, but I suspect that like their mugs, there are some other brands that work just as well and cost a lot less.
I like the way you are thinking though, it's always good to have a few cold ones on hand.
Don't have one myself, but also am thinking about getting one.
I'd suck a dick if that's what I had to do to get what I want, and I want a cooler that'll keep shït cold. Even if they are kind of gay, if they work for what you need-they work.
I've got a big Yeti that came with my boat. I am totally unimpressed. I would NEVER buy one. My Pelican coolers, on the other hand, are awesome...as long as you don't have to pick them up.
I have a couple and my wife has an Orca. They are good. If you want ice to last several days where you can't readily get ice they are good to have. If you just need ice for day trips they are a waste of money. The worst thing about them around here is people will risk life and limb to steal them.
I don't have one, don't plan to buy one and I don't boycott companies as a rule. They make a good cooler, but today there are many other options that do just as well at 1/2 the cost. For most people keeping ice a little longer isn't that important. They do, but the difference between them and a $50 Coleman Extreme isn't that great. If you are in a situation where you need ice to last for days with no resupply you'll get an extra day with the high end coolers. Most people who use them day to day start over every day with fresh ice anyway.
To me the biggest advantage of the high end coolers is better hinges and latches. If used hard on a daily basis they will probably pay for themselves by lasting longer.
Another disadvantage of the high end coolers is weight. The insulation is thicker which adds weight, and reduces internal space with coolers of the same external size.
I have 3 Rtic coolers, two soft and one lunker (65?). The zippers went to hell on the soft coolers, lesson learned, now they are flip tops....
The Rtic 20 is a literal clone of the Yeti but the fouled zippers sorta annoyed me away from anymore Rtic.
Weight isn't an issue, ice for days not a concern, theft not really because I stash the wheeler when not in use. And I thought about removing the logo and sticking an Ozark Trail sticker on it.
I just want something I can strap down TIGHT and not have it crack or break.
I won a yeti 65 through our seed dealer. It's nice, but I wouldn't pay $400 for it.
I have one of the Rtic 20's which is identical to a yeti. It's been riding in the back of my truck for a couple years and still is as good as new. I think it's got the same "mounts" as a yeti.
Got a few. Like them but there are probably plenty others just as good. I buy all kinds of stuff that can be found cheaper and perform just as well for all practical purposes (Rifles anyone?)
If I boycotted every company whose politics I disagreed with it would be hard to buy much of anything
Chose one from the company catalogue as a gift when I retired. Would not have bought one on my dime...Not sure if it was the cheapest, or most expensive cooler I ever got.
Don't like the politics, and would not buy one. I might even have one.. An Older Cabela's Outfitter I think, grey with locking hasps and a hose bib for a drain. It is a very good cooler. Holds ice for at least 4 days in 90+ weather.
I got one, will it keep [bleep] cold yea as long as ya dont open the lid to get stuff out of it.As said above a coleman extreem or even a ozark trail will fill the need just as good and ya will have some money to buy stuff to put in it.
If I understand correctly, they will freeze a right-from-the-oven roast turkey solid in under a minute. There are rumors that if you put a lighted match in one and quickly close the lid, it will freeze the flame. I am not certain that one is true, but there are those who swear that it is.
Talked to a guy that had one and a similar sized Coleman Extreme, used for multiple days in hunting camp. Very little difference in his opinion, said he'd never buy another Yeti
I got one of the yeti 1 gallon water jugs when they first came out. It is the best water jug I’ve ever had by far. 1/4 ice 3/4 water will stay cold 3 days in the 90 heat.
I bought a 65 on sale, probably 10 years ago. You know, just to keep the COCK big. I'm underwhelmed. It is tough. It is lockable. It keeps shít cold. Even on sale, its not t worth it. YMMV
Check out the Bison coolers. I picked one out of my 25 year anniversary gift book at work. When it arrived, there were two boxes. I got a big one and a smaller one. They are great. Every bit the quality of Yetti.
We were gifted a Yeti...glad I didn't buy it, considering the price tag. We are a little disappointed. Almost any cooler would work as well if you follow Yeti's instructions for pre chilling overnite. And it's so darn heavy, we usually take an old Igloo Marine. Similar ice retention ability, half the weight.
A good cooler. When I was in the market I looked at these very hard but opted for the Ozark as it had the basket for keeping stuff suspended above the ice. I had contacted lifetime via email and they said they had no plans for a basket.
So if you don't need a basket they are the cooler I'd go for.
Yeti's rock! Note that everybody still compares their brand of cooler to a Yeti. Sure they are overpriced. Sure they now have the NRA get coolers at cost. They used to donate tons of them to the NRA. But who can't say that the owners of Yeti might have looked at WLP and figured why give him money. They do have a high markup at about 45% over cost. I have a Yeti 105 Deep Tundra and its a great cooler. The thing about Yeti's is that if they fail you call the company and go to a store that has one and they say purchase it with their credit card. I have seen two failures. One was a Tundra 65 that was run over by a front end loader. Yeti bought them a Tundra 75 because we didn't have a 65 in stock. The other failure was a roadie 20 that was on the front of a Jeep that was pulled behind a motorhome from Florida. The case was cracked by the time they got to Fairbanks. We didn't have any Yetis in stock so they told the couple to pick an Engel 65 and used their credit card to make sure they had a cooler.
The fundamental flaw with Yeti's is that the straps can get knocked loose in the back of a Pickup truck and you can lose ice. But they are legit if you follow Yeti directions.
The best testimonial for Yeti happened this summer. A group of USFW researchers were moving food in Yetis from Happy Valley to Kavik Camp and there was a technical glitch and the helicopter dropped the cargo net from 1000ft. The food was destroyed but the Yetis survived. That is a pretty good product.

Hell I even keep a cat around here. I done caught the dreaded double gay.
I told her she's a tri-colored beagle.
1. I cashed out my chips with Cabelas, had the points, kind of like the last 20 seconds on Wheel of Fortune, fuggit gimme the Yeti.
2. I do kind of worry bout it gettin gangked so it only travels in the trunk of the Caddy.
3. It's only called for runs to get Andouille or shrimp or bulk Conocuh. grins
[
Kin I have the cat? Wife won't like it, but, hell, she's in Spain for a bit... then Montana, then Oregon. I'll see her again in late September. fait a'complie or whatever. My dogs need excercise, and that's a right pretty cat.
Just went to order one of those RTIC Coolers Damb thing is Made in China and they were charging Tariff fees I ordered the one from Walmart Made in the USA instead
His six cost about the same as the one I bought many years ago that still gets used.
I may look into a Lifetime one someday, but for now, with the Coleman and a couple of Igloos I'm pretty well set.
SamO, good luck finding what you need. Me, I get by for a day with an El Cheapo one and a frozen 1/2 gallon milk jug of water. Keeps my lunch cold enough for me.
I have one. I also have a Pelican and an Orion cooler too. The Orion is my favorite, the the Pelican, and the Yeti last. Yet coolers are not true to size.
I picked up two 48qt Coleman marine coolers for $25CAD each at the local Bass Pro. Are they as good as a Yeti? No, but I saved $550CAD over the cost of a 75qt Yeti. They fit under the rack in my truck. I can buy a lot of ice, if required, to get my antelope home from Wyoming (when I go).
I won't cry if the Coleman gets stolen, lost or broken.
I interviewed with them in 2015 for a product development engineering manager position when my wife was in Austin and I was considering moving there. Figured why not switch industries while I was at it, go from medical device engineering - plates, screws, taylor spatial frame, etc. to outdoor stuff. Hell, the recently hired CEO to the company has the same background as me! The recruiter - from a 3rd party head hunter service - totally blew me off as not having any “outdoor brand experience” or some [bleep] like that. Only time in my life that an interview ended with the equivalent of “well [bleep] you too!”. It was surprisingly irritating and refreshing in the same day.
And Hell No, i won’t buy and Yeti [bleep]. RTIC all the way for me
I have a plan to strap a cooler on the rear rack of my 4 wheeler. It needs to be an uber stout setup. Thinking a Roadie 20 and a 1" ratchet strap.
Looked on-line at a few other 'heavy-duty' coolers and the Yeti appeared to have the easiest mounting system.
They do however seem kinda gay....
I admit it, I hated to do it, but I wanted my boat laid out just right, and the Tundra 210 was the only cooler on the market with the demensions that optimized my deck plan.
No other cooler matches those demensions..do that being said, I think I deserve a pass!
Wife is going to take a cooler of salmon and caribou out to MT when she gets back from Spain and thence our remote cabin week(we got it covered alternatively frozen for a week in Fairbanks) That $26 dollar cooler from Fred Meyer, purchased 9 years ago and doing yeoman's duty to the Bush for 8 years, is on a one way trip...
Well, maybe not - we do drive out...... if they save it...
i own a Yeti cooler yes these coolers are heavy and expensive but ice and frozen food do stay cold alot longer in a Yeti for me.i am glad i own one because when i am bowhunting in the mountains at least at base camp i still have some meat staying cold for up to 10 days as long as my Yeti cooler is in the shade with temps of 70 degrees during the day.

And therein lies the problem with 3rd party headhunters having yeah-neah control over a qualified candidate. I can't tell you how many deadbeats I got stuck working with in high level IT mgmt positions because of this exact scenario. They pick their exact schmoozer images with little concern or knowledge about the.professional requirements of the position.
Ive got a Yeti 65 , bought it about 7 years ago before the NRA crap came out and everyone copied them. No complaints, it has literally been on the back of my Tacoma the entire time. Other than fading out a little it looks just like when I bought it. Holds ice great, tough as hell . What more could you want.
Don't bother with the "Roadie" sized cooler. It barely holds a 6-pack and a 10# bag of ice and if it does, it's too blooming awkward and heavy to carry with the fold over handle. Go the next size up with the two rope handles.
Yeti coolers are referred to as "Redneck Rolexes". Nobody really needs one, but it allows you to show everyone you have money to blow.
You can watch a youtube vid comparing a yeti to a cheap igloo. the yeti actually won by a few hours over numerous days. If ice was $30 a bag I might consider a cooler that will hold it a small amt of time longer... I can buy a LOT of ice for what I save not owning a yeti.
I have 2. While they were cheaper, there is a reason. They are cheaply made. The material used is not a hard plastic but a much softer plastic. There is a great deal of flex in the lids and quality control seems to be lacking. One of the gaskets broke the first time i used the cooler. I think I paid $99 each for the 50 qt. They work well, but they are no where near an Arctic or Yeti as far as toughness. Ice retention is good, but if I were to do it all over, I would get either the Arctic or the Ozark brands. Yeti's are way over priced.

My brother was filling up his work truck at a mobil station in Florida. There is a train track about 100 feet from the gas station, A guy in a work truck was in a rush to go somewhere and his Cheap Walmart Cooler flew out and landed on the tracks. My brother drove home and saw it laying there, it was full of ice and beer and other then a scuff not a mark on it. It holds ice almost as well as his icy teks(which have no peer) . If that is not tough enough punishment for a cheap cooler I don't know what is.
In currently made coolers a Yeti cannot even come close to a Pelican. I have a 75QT one that can probably survive an atomic bomb last
Ive had a yeti 45 for a couple years and its a nice coolers and works fairly well, but i wouldnt go out and buy another. On the other hand, the soft coolers / bags that they make work very well i have several friends that have them and ive been impressed. Id definitely put the money down to buy one.
Have the RTIC 30 soft cooler and it held up for about 2 years but now its literally starting to come apart at the seams, would not recommend.
I have a friend that regularly rafts rivers in the USA and Canada for up to a month at a time. He has about every cooler made. He maintains Orca is the best out there, better than Yeti or Rtic.
If you use a cooler a few weekends a year, buy a Igloo or Coleman. If you use it daily a Yeti or one of their competitors will pay for itself. Both in ice savings and service life.

I've got one also and do agree that the plastic isn't the toughest out there but mines held up well, I may get another one in the 77qt model. I prefer the latches they use compared to the rubber latches used on various other coolers and all my buddies like them as well. They must be selling because now they're offering 2 more sizes, on in 77qt and another in 28qt.
Bison Coolers are as strong as any hard-working American. Tough as nails, Bison Coolers are 100% American Made Quality.
Why join the Bison herd?
1. Roto-molded construction
2. More insulation than other brands
3. Free replacement parts
4. True to capacity
5. MADE IN USA
It is important to purchase USA made products. Those purchases keep jobs within the country. We all know American products are the strongest. Who wouldn't want a professional grade cooler, with maximum storage capacity, especially when it's crafted by a fellow countrymen?
Well constructed but heavy and overpriced. I'd only purchase if it was a write off. Being of meager means, I seek out less expensive but equally functional gear.

The RTIC 65 is heavy to.
Loaded with ice and drinks it’s a real chore to move.
I think any quality good ice chest will be heavy however, RTIC is priced right. I think they have a Labor Day sale going now........

You can get a small freezer plug it in each night and take the antelope home! Way cheaper than a Yeti! Hell you could even buy a small generator to run the freezer!
SamOlson: The one I have I "earned" hosting some out of state Hunters. It works extremely well - way better than anything comparable I have used. Still I probably would not have sprung for the retail price of my Yeti for myself! I would rather buy guns! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy P.S.: If you call keeping food or beverages or groceries cold for a very long time then I guess I own some "yuppie chit"! But it is 110 miles (each way!) to the nearest Cost-Co and my Yeti has come in handy in all kinds of ways on all kinds of excursions and extended "aways". I say, good for Yeti!
I was wondering how/if you western dudes bought ice cream.
Imagine it wouldnt do right if you had to drive back and forth from seattle to ft belknap or whatdefugever.
I good pre charged cooler might help for a 30-40 mile trip. Otherwise you have make your own?
I'm 18 miles from the Food Lion, I get pretty assy if there's a school bus or grampie in front of me on the way home and I got the meadow gold butter pecan ridin shotgun
My father had a steel fiberglass insulated cooler with rubber gasket seals, and latch downs. I don't know it would compare to the newfangled types, but it would keep fish frozen solid for two days.
I have several Yeti coolers and drink ware... also have Rtic, Coleman, Grizzly, and Pelican... they all work better then the Coleman and are most definitely a tougher cooler...I wish Rtic made bigger sizes... I also have multiple rifles chambered in 6.5, 6, and 22 Creedmoor, yet I've never had any cravings for wiener...
my buddy has one along with the 40 dollar cup. he raves about it so much that i want to beat him over the fuggen head with it. i'll take one if somebody gives me one but otherwise ain't no fuggen way i'm paying gun money for a cooler.

I like my Yeti's, got a couple of them, a 45 and the 105. For the trips we make into the foothills, they are worth it when it can be a couple hours into town one way. We are usually 7 days in before leaving so ice is important. Expensive, sure but when you are in bear country that bear proof quality is handy. And yes we keep a clean camp, hang stuff high etc but why push yer luck. My 20 oz tumbler gets used daily as does the 32 oz thermos. Enough hot coffee for 12 hrs shift, perked at home, no Tim Horton crap. My wife loves the Tumblers as well, keeps her tea hot.
Some of those other brands you guys talk about aren't avail in Canada, only ones I have seen are the Grizzly and Igloo. Griz didn't impress me, latches seemed loose. Igloo Sportsmen, local Costco had them a couple years ago, they didn't sell well so I snagged one at the end of season when they drastically reduced the price....nice cooler. The Engel is also avail but not locally.
One of my boys just bought the Cabelas one in Calgary a couple weeks ago but hasn't used it yet.
If ya have the coin, why not buy what ya want? I just sent a MO to Charlie May for another knife today. Gun acct is building towards the next purchase as is the flyrod acct. Those college gals are onto something....Yeti Butts is one of my favourite IG pages! Jeff
I know, when did ice become so expensive, and trucks were $80,000, and tag and license for a deer, was $600, that netted maybe 50lbs of meat...... Oh the creedmoor.....Grin
Older bud I knew had one of those green metal colemans. He was pretty deep into the beers after hittin some crappie beds.
Seen an old colored womern sittin on a porch, whipped in there and asked that old gal if she wanted some feesh. She said "Lod i juss been prayin sumwon would brings me some crappie"
He just set her the whole cooler on her porch, the whole deal lol. She raised the lid and says "Lod i juss been prayin sumwon wood bring me some bud lght too"
I have been running an Igloo Sportsman Colder for 6 or so years, great product and the year I bought it had beat the Yeti in several back to back tests.
Been using a Yeti for the past 6+ years, purchased in a group buy. IMO, where the Yeti coolers win is in the abuse they can take and keep on ticking; seem this with other buddy's yetis that also use them hard. Last time mine was used hard .... couple months ago I had two 12 yo boys drag the cooler over a field of large rocks/boulders to get to camp 100yds away. Cooler was loaded heavy at 100+ lbs. Have done this sort of thing many times and in other abusing situations during the past 6 yrs and the only damage is scratches and gouges. If your cooler will never leave the back of a truck or boat, get a copy cat version for a few nickles less.
I've watched this with interest and have quickly searched several of the options mentioned....only quickly. So far there appear to be exactly NONE that lead the pack as the obvious best deal on cost, quality, and toughness. Had no idea there were so many versions and brands.
To many to compare....going back to looking at rifles and scopes....this is to confusing....
Sam's comments on the zipper issues reminded me of my purchasing a "zipperless" day cooler for my smaller tractor.
Dust and age don't do any sort of zippers any favors. I just won't have them... especially after owning a couple of Jeeps with the zipper windows...
I got this one that doesn't have a zipper, and so far, it's been great. Keeps my drinks handy in the tractor cab, and there's still ice in the cooler after a long day.
I bought a Yeti several years ago and it works like it was advertised. It wasn’t cheap but it is still keeping ice for days and that is why I bought it. The money I spent on it would have been gone by now for who knows what, had I not bought the Yeti.
Just like good optics, once you have them, you are never sorry. The only people that are sorry are the ones that don’t get the good stuff and complain about how much it costs...

Yeah, there's so many available, why spend twice as much as you have to? It's a freakin cooler. The Yeti 45 was $300 and the Rtic 45 was $170. It was a no-brainer to me. Next time though, I might look into some these other "Made in the USA" brands.
Those steel Coleman’s are pretty damn good coolers. Used to be anyway.
Had one for a lot of years. Kept schit cold just fine.
Here's a true story about how tough those old Colemans really were. In this old photo from the early '60's, my wife is the one in the middle. Her farther was Air Force and they were living in Spain. Notice the crushed car. They were on their way to a picnic and her dad needed to make a quick stop somewhere on base on the way out. The girls were all in the car with the cooler in the back seat between them. A Spanish tank convoy was going by and a tank driver lost control and DROVE OVER THEIR CAR. Nobody got more than minor injuries because the STEEL COLEMAN COOLER kept the car roof from collapsing on them. The girls only had a few minor cuts from flying glass.
Under Spanish military law at the time, the convoy commander had the right to shoot the driver on the spot. He pulled his gun and was going to do just that when my FIL stopped him.

Wow that would be pretty bad with todays cars and coolers.
Yeah get the yeti. It will keep your craft brewed IPA a special kind of chill. Like straight up craft chilled, know what I mean? It's yeti chill, which is what your craft IPA deserves. Don't forget the north face bottle opener.

Yep and all these coolers are rotomolded. Surprised at how many are made in the US and Yeti is not one of them, yet is the most expensive. Priceless
In case you guys weren't aware being Yeti Pro-Staff has its perks.
Custom, prototype, limited edition.....
Best part, only $199.....
Some say it eases the pain when you bend over and fork out the big bucks for total awesomeness....
Damn, I had no idea you were Amish.......when you're ready to toss off the shackles of religion and embrace the luxury of modern technology you should buy one of these
Saves me a good 10 minutes greasing up a telehandler. 5 min on a skid loader. Love the [bleep] thing
I bought a Yeti 65 about 10 years ago. It keeps stuff cold longer than any other cooler I’ve owned. I hunt quite a bit in western Ks, 20 miles from ice. So I can spend time driving to buy ice every day or so, or hunt a little longer. My only complaint is it’s too heavy. Also, I received a yeti soft side as a gift. Works very good for all day sits in warm antelope blinds. There may be better performing or better for the price coolers, but I’m happy my Yeti.
Need to dope that cooler up with some Costa stickers, Salt Life, 30A.
Good idea, just now went through the sticker and gift card pile on the counter. FWIW, all my fancy stickers(Swaro, Mossberg, etc) are stored in a different spot.....
Rubber keepers snapped on Yeti after couple years.
A $79 Coleman or Igloo lasts me about a year at best. Igloo Yukon is my favorite and I've abused it for several years. Near indestructible. Put five 64 oz. frozen water bottles then 100 lbs of Ice and it will stay cold for near two weeks in the Texas heat.
