My wife tagged me in a fb post about a recipe for old fashion custard pie, so I took it as a , hint, hint.
I actually like to cook, so I looked over the recipe, and got to work.
I didn't do a crust from scratch, but bought a 2 pack of pre made.
Instead of having a crust hanging around waiting for a later date, I made 2 !
They turned out awesome....
My wife owes me big time !! Big grin !!

Nice!
Damn nice!

Looks good,how was it ?
Tasted awesome !
It was a good recipe I followed.
Good job. They sure do look good. I love to make pies but I love eating them more!
Remember, the number one ingredient in any recipe is the heart!
You betcha.
I also like to see the smile, and watch someone really enjoy something I made.
Looks like a great job!

Now, where's the recipe??
Looks good enough to eat. I like baking goodies, the sweets thread inspired me to make some cookies today. (I didn't eat the dough.)

Your welcome.
I used the same crust in the recipe. Got them at Safeway.
Nicely done!!!
Those look good!

Gonna have to try it.
My late Mother used to make a great, what She called egg custard pie. Along the line somebody told Her that there was a danger bringing those to various socials, so She quit making those and started making " Chess pies". They were very similar but the egg custard was better. Not sure of the danger and whether it was real or not, as the egg custard was cooked and not raw eggs. Anyway, I like custard pies. miles
Looks good, I like custard pie!
They did turn out great !
And here I'm trying to watch my weight, and sugar !

Lol...
Well, ya know....
I figured I'd try to lessen the chance of total failure !!
Lookin REAL good !
Looks pretty yummy!

some of the pre made crust are so good it's about not worth the trouble to do made from scratch
Beautifully done!

Having grown up on a dairy farm, where Mom raised 500 laying hens as well, we had egg custard and custard pies frequently....with mounds of real whipped cream.

Pure delight!!
DANG that looks really good to a fat guy on keto.

WTH? 22 posts in, and nobody has put this up yet?

But yeah, that pie looks awfully good, too!

Alright...

Got two in the oven.

We'll see!

I'll post up the results. Never made an egg custard pie before.

But I love 'em! grin
Yeah !
Let's start a who is making custard pies thread, with pics !!
Oh, man.
Interesting! I've never had custard pie, don't think I've even heard of it. I think I'll have to make some and try it. What's it comparable to?
This keeps up and we'll need to have a 'Campfire pie cooking shoot-out'. I volunteer my skillz as a judge.
I would say its comparable to flan, or just think of the custard in a donut, but firm.

Gotta try this, splatter. I do like egg custard. Piccadilly Cafeterias had some good stuff.

Thanks

No, it was pretty easy.

I did have to let it bake more than the recipe called for. At the 35-40 minute mark, it was still real watery.

My specialty is peach cobbler... grin

I know a few guys here at the Fire that can vouch for it. laugh

Quit holding out on us. Recipe, man, recipe!!
Splattermatic: I have never tasted "custard pie" - those sure look delicious.
The VarmintWife makes a "rhubarb custard pie" from our own rhubarb patch that simply knocks peoples socks off though!
Its about 95% rhubarb and 5% custard though.
Enjoy'em - wish I was there!
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
Thanks for all the great words !
One thing tho ...
It was a great thread to take our minds off the every day, hustle and bussle of life.

did you buy deep-dish pastries, or are these standard depth...

I can make either, and will do so this seekend, if I know which
We slap raspberries in custard pies in early July when they ripen around here. A big tradition in my house. We love to pick wild raspberries.

That recipe fills a deep dish pie shell all the way to the top.

Use the deep dish.

It takes much balance and concentration to put the pies in the oven without spilling it everywhere! laugh

So far, I'm batting a 1000 with the balance act though.

sounds good, dollop of whipped cream and few beries on top, too...maybe whip up a little raspberry sauce and drizzle on top

Okay, now, where's the recipe???
I've never had custard pie, but we grew up on egg custard that mom used to (still does) cook in the oven in a water bath. Amazing with a drizzle of maple syrup atop it.
