Question 1: It isn't a hoax because it exists and it is killing people but I believe it is being overblown. On a planet with a population of 7.8 billion people we have a daily death number of over 154,000 per day, this isn't as deadly or as serious as the media makes it out to be.
43 years old - bad virus if you are one of the minority that has it and doesn't have the minor symptoms. Massive over reaction in how we're approaching the response given that reality. Which has been my point the whole time - it's a bad virus, yep, been here longer than January for damned sure, yep, overreaction in how we've gone about things in the last 6 weeks, yep.
So I don't know where I fall exactly in the answer/tally.
I do know 2 nurses and 4 people that work at hospitals. All have had hours cut significantly because we simply are NOT seeing sick people like the models say we should. Flattened curve taken into consideration as well.
I know of one whose background is heavy in infectious diseases - should be working like crazy, just cut back to 16 hours a week. WI tavern league figures the shut down will close about 2000 bars/restaurants in this state alone. They simply will not open. So 2000 businesses closed because 30 people died in this state. That's the overreaction.

Covid 19: hoax or serious? That is a really bad question. Since Covid 19 exists, it really can't be considered a hoax. The issue is whether it is serious enough to destroy the economy over. The same could be said about the flu. It kills tens of thousands every year in this country. If we shut down the economy every year from October to the following May, ordered everyone to stay home and have no contact with anyone outside their own house, we could "save" many people from dying from the flu. That idea is so damn ridiculous that not even democrats have suggested it. We accept that millions will get the flu, and tens of thousands will die.
For the vast majority, this coronavirus is no more, and maybe even actually less, dangerous than the flu. Last I checked, 162 pediatric patients have died from the flu this season. I don't think covid 19 has done that. If you're rather old and unhealthy, then you are more at risk from coronavirus than the average person. On the other hand, old and unhealthy people are more at risk from just about anything than the average person.
As far as social distancing goes, I don't believe that it has been as effective as the government is trying to tell us. First it was if we do nothing, two million+ people will die; but if you do what we say, then only 100,0000 to 240,000 will die. People followed directions, for the most part. The numbers changed to 90,0000, then to around 80,000, then to around 60,000. They said it was because we were doing a good job following directions. Does anyone remember Fauci saying that if we did a "good job" of following directions, then way fewer than 100,000 to 240,000 people would die? Me neither. Give it a few more days and the projected death numbers will probably drop again.
At least according to the government, this covid 19 is very contagious. Now consider that the social distancing orders didn't take place for two weeks, or mostly more, after the first cases of coronavirus showed up at hospitals in any given area. Add to that businesses that remain open and all of the people traffic through those businesses. Now let's throw in the fact that the "experts" were not advising people to wear masks for at least some time (I don't remember exactly when that changed). My belief is that by the time action was taken to "stop the spread", the damage was already done. The virus was already spread to the point where damage control wasn't very effective. Of course, you'll never hear that theory from anyone at the government level because there is no way in hell that they're going to acknowledge that they overreacted tremendously by destroying the economy. Nope, they're going to go all in on the "boy, you guys did such a great job doing what we said that the death count was only a fraction of what we said it was going to be if you did what we said". A lot of people will pat themselves on the back and tell themselves that they believe that. I won't be one of them.
The government should have simply suggested that older people, and people with certain health issues, practice social distancing. The rest of the country can carry on. Yes, I know. Some seemingly healthy young people would get covid 19 and die if we carried on. That would suck, but no more than those same people dying in any of the myriad ways that 350 million people find to die. Some of you may claim that " yes, but this is CONTAGIOUS". So is the flu. Thousands of young people die from the flu every year. We don't destroy the economy over it.

I don't like the idea of a third column as the whole idea is forcing somebody to choose either-or. There is no doubt that I took the hypothesis unseriously and should've did better on the "hoax" side of the question...IOW came up with a different word.
I think it is serious and I have taken it seriously and so has my wife,22 year old daughter and most of our friends and family. Hell my daughters boyfriend is in Air Force ROTC and will be going to pilot school soon and they told all the guys if you get SARS CoV-2 you will be DQ'd. The models are being proven to be inaccurate. This article is suggesting that the numbers are very low compared to the models. The damage is done already, and that has been the goal. I am pretty sick of every frigging thing turning into a political battle. Every press conference here with our communist governor is just another bash Trump response opportunity.

The predictions are inaccurate, but I'm not sure it's the models that are causing the problems. Even the best models are only as good as the data inputs. Garbage in, garbage out and we have no accurate data for the number of infections.
The problem is in the interpretation of the model predictions. No one talks about the margins of error, and they'r ehuge.
I am mid seventies. I am no more worried about this virus than I worry about the flu virus. If there were a flu shot for this virus I would get one like I do every year.
My belief is that it is a intentional release by the Chinese to hit western Europe and the USA/Canada hard. The leftist media went in lock step with the social democrats to make this a huge issue and to destroy the capitalist system. The outcome is bleak as there will be trillions of dollars spent trying to prop up a country that by all accounts will be gone in a few years if the deep state and the democrat scum have their way.

However, massively overblown. It's worse than the flu in that it spreads more rapidly and has a higher case mortality rate, but it's worst case is killing about 1 in 200 people (0.5%). This is bad, but it's not like the Spanish flu of 2018/19 which killed at a 2.5% rate and was very hard on young healthy people.
Was it worth locking down for a couple of months? Maybe, but I think there are other alternatives and hopefully we'll learn from this episode. Taiwan, with aggressive border closures and contact tracing of known victims, got this under control right away and is still keeping their economy moving. China aggressively locked down infected areas and did aggressive contact tracing and got it under control in a few months despite being surprised by the first infections. Italy did just about everything wrong, including keeping excess covid-19 patients in old folks homes because they had the beds there and is still paying the price for it. Sweden told their old and other vulnerable citizens they should self isolate and their population more or less is self distancing in public on their own. Their infection rate is higher than Canada and their death rate is about 5 times that of Canada, who locked down. That said, their death rate is 100 per million, which isn't terrible. I guess part of it is what value you place on a life, but I don't think Sweden was necessarily wrong.
In the end, there are better measures that can be taken in a situation like this and hopefully we learned some valuable and very expensive lessons.

I've said in other posts that we'll need to check back in a few months. I've also said that it would be expected that Sweden would get to their peak faster, since they were letting it run it's course. Right now, it appears that we've slowed it down temporarily. But when the people are allowed to start living again, it should be expected to take off again. All we've done is delay when people will get exposed to it. The same number of people who will develop an immunity will do so. The same number of people who can't develop an immunity will die. It will just take longer here, and cost us trillions of dollars, and millions of jobs.
