1. Outlaw Jose Wale 2. Pale Rider (you atheists would hate that one) 3. Good bad ugly 4. For a few $ more 5. Fistful of $ 6. Unforgivin 7 One scene from Gran Torino 8. Hang em high 9. Eiger sanction 10. Dirty Harry
Only a few that he acted in were what I'd call "great" movies and some of them were total schlock just cashing in on his image, but he sure played a lot of iconic characters and those movies produced a lot of quotable lines.
In the latter category: Dirty Harry and its sequels Good, Bad and Ugly Josey Wales
He made some good ones. Id have to put Pale Rider in the top 5.
Pale Rider was just a remake of Shane. Plot and even some of the lines were the same.

I did not know that. I remember the endings of both. The boy calling out to Shane and the girl calling out to Preacher. He played one of the few roles that didn't make the preacher character look like a pathetic wimp.
I'll have to go back and watch that again. HEREs what a preacher should do. Study God's Word, preach hard and learn to use a stick to protect the weak.
Higbean: You left out the wonderful/ground breaking/succesful movie "Dirty Harry" because, I assume, YOU have never been to a Clint Eastwood movie! Sheesh! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

And lot of parallel scenes with Josey Wales and Unforgiven.
Pale Rider shared some commonalities with Shane. It was actually a remake of Clint's earlier effort, High Plains Drifter, though. Shane featured a real guy whereas Pale Rider and High Plains Drifter featured a ghost. I like both Clint's movies but Shane is one of the best movies ever made.
I miss Wheelchair Bandit. He would've loved this thread. RIP Brian.

And speaking of copy cats, anybody ever notice that Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing is practically scene for scene a copy of Fist Full of Dollars?
Fist Full of Dollars was itself a ripoff of Yojimbo, a Japanese samurai flick by Kurosawa. I believe the Japanese production company behind Yojimbo sued the production company for Fist Full, and won.

I've heard that a few more of those successful spaghetti westerns, and westerns in general were remakes of Kurosawa classics. Doesn't bother me either. Immitation is the highest form of flattery....if you aren't taking$ from Kurisawa productions IMHO.
One obvious one was "The Magnificent seven" taken from the much better Seven Samari. Everyone here should rent or buy that. Then go back and listen to the commentary.
I've often wondered about that Bruce Willis remake of a remake. Did they pay royalties to the Fist Full of Dollars people, or to the Japanese? Or both?
The only people who made money off that Bruce Willis film were probably the copyright lawyers.
Well damn, it first off it's a Pick handle not an axe handle fugging Hollywood as*holes never get anything right. Outlaw Josey Wales, Heartbreak Ridge, Thunderboldt and Lightfoot, Fistfull of dollars and High plains Drifter. Any movie Malpaso produced (Clints company). I liked Brigdesover Madison county cause Meryl Streep is and allways was a class act. MB
How can you not like Every Which Way But Loose? Quality entertainment.
Best scene in that movie. Ol Clint wasn't even in it, but nowadays he's older than that actress was but still making movies! BTW, wasn't she the same actress that played the old lady with an attitude in outlaw Jose Wales?
That goes back a while. The only thing that I remember about that movie is the ending. It was likely what gave my X gf an idea for a parting meal when we broke up. I don't blame the movie, just her.
Good news is that it had a happy ending because I survived. I came within an inch of my life as organ failure set in. I'm grateful that God miraculously brought a vision of charcoal to my mind and where to find it. Then he gave me enough strength to drag myself off my back, get to it and eat it before dying. It absorbed the poison she put in the food and I recovered.
Someone once asked me if I were to die today, if I was 100% sure if I would go to heaven. I was not at the time, but can now answer differently. Has anyone ever cared to ask you about that?
Any love for Play Misty For me. A bit of a departure but thought he was good in it. Catching the knife barehanded from the crazy gal and the npunching her in the face.....good times.

That's Ruth Gordon in the Every Which Way movies. If you liked her in those, check out Harold and Maude and Where's Poppa?. She's a riot.
She wasn't in The Outlaw Jose Wales. I suspect you're thinking of Paula Trueman.
I guess they don't look alike after all. It's the hight challenged sassy attitude that had me thinking that. I was waiting for her to get an attitude and say, "Where's the Beef!". LOL
I've never seen those movies. I should check those out. Old folks aren't featured these days like they used to be.

You're in for a treat. Definitely see Harold and Maude and Where's Poppa?. They're both dark, edgy and very, very funny.
A couple of terrific movies he directed: Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. The battle of Iwo Jima, told from the American and Japanese point of view. Makes a great double feature or back to back nights. It was really interesting to see some of the same battles from both perspectives.
I have a lot of Clint movies only reason for a vcr don't know if they were all ever made over to DVD some I'm sure but not all. Clint went to Malpaso his own production company along the way acted and directed the films, lucky for all us Clint fans. Thing is you see lot of the same actors working those films go clear back to Dirty Harry. The reason was simple he liked them and they would do whatever he wanted without a bunch of tempermentle bs. When he had a film coming up he all ways knew who he wanted to play the parts. The lone watie charactor on the outlaw josey Wales was example of his genius as director. Chief Dan George was often unscripted he just couldn't follow lines so Clint let him roll as he could and they sure were good lines he came up with...come to think of it the only good thing tv is worth a fug for is watching Clint E movies over and over....mb
