What’s your go to hand gun? Mines a ruger p90dc.
I go to the one I need for the purpose at hand.
Man that is hard, I love my 1911's, but I love 686 as well
For? Hunting, Anaconda 44 mag.
Plinking/training - G44
CC- G 23 or G27/27
Woods- 20,35
1911s for general use, but I'm pretty fond of a 4" 617 Smith for small-game stuff. I've got lots of other stuff, but those fit my wants/needs probably better than anything else.
Probably my current favorite is my Sig P320 compact in .45ACP. It's a bit more than I wanna carry though and my regular rotation includes the Ruger LC9S pro, and a couple of Ruger LCRs...
Working it's way into favor is the 629 4" that I came across a while back. Splendidly accurate and easy to load for. When the holster ordered for it late this past winter arrives it may become a serious contender...
For "seriousness": Colt 1911
For .22 target/plinking: K-22 or Woodsman
For centerfire target/plinking: K-38 or Colt Officer's Model .38
All choices that satisfy my urges. I don't want to "run and gun", will try my damnedest to avoid unpleasant social encounters, don't hunt with handguns, and certainly don't/won't/can't conceal carry. So, the plethora of "modern" highly technically refined combat handguns aren't in my wheelhouse.
Carry- Dan Wesson CCO 1911 or Glock 48 depending on the day.
Plinking- s&w 17-6 .22
Looking forward to taking my newly acquired s&w 66 on a few outdoor ventures.

Go to for what? EDC it's a P365 with 15rd magazine.
If it's hunting deer sized game it's one of my revolvers from 41 mag to 45 colt. If it's buffalo sized game it's one of my big bore revolver in 475L to 500L or JRH
I'm trying hard to like and justify my cf handguns, but for just a rambling around handgun in these parts it has to be my S&W M34 Armaloy coated .22 with the larger grip set. In southern snake or two legged varmint areas, my favorite is a 12 ounce S&W pre-lock M337 PD .38 Special with either a couple of shot loads or +P Hornady's.
A K22 for everyday plinking, A Kimber Micro 9MM or Ultra Carry 45ACP for carry and have a S&W M57 41Mag on the way for whatever reason.
For use at the home in defense - Dan Wesson Valor 1911 45cal with Laser Grip
For carry outside the home where clothing allows - CZ 75D PCR Compact 9mm (most carried gun)
Pants pocket - Ruger LCP .380 auto
In the woods and trails - Ruger SP101 .357 mag

Ok, here is my entry.....
Lj
For EDC it is a Wilson Combat EDC X9 9mm
For hunting large game it is my Gary Reeder Ultimate.410
For deer size game my Ruger .480 Super Blackhawk or Colt. Python
My faves are many. Fave for a trip through violent cities, or another for goin to get a meal in my low crime town.
Variety is the spice.
But, standouts in just the last few years have been a M69 S&W in the bigger bore category, & a Glock 48 for carry.
My favorite is my 1911. My current go to is my hellcat.
I have a P90DC handy at home. I switched out the factory pannels for Hogues, and blacked out the white dots on the rear sight. Loaded with WWB 230gr hp's. For me its not a real go-to gun. Although with a lanyard, its great for cold weather outings. Its relaible, but it does have weaknesses. Big, and bulky, and the trigger return spring is not adaquately protected.
I'm apt to grab a small revolver for most things, and a big revolver for occasional things. My 1911 seldom gets carried. Ive never had a modern pistol, but have shot a few. Great tools, but without charm for me.
Favorite is some flavor of Springfield XD, big to small, depending on the need.
Glock 26 for carry, Glock 22 with TLR1, nights sights and a 22 round mag for HD. And browning buckmark for general plinking. I like the Berettas and 1911's as well.

A blued Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 4-5/8" barrel. Mine has seen a lot of miles over the hills 'n' through the woods plus up and down a whole lot of creeks and rivers. If I had to give up all my guns but one it would probably be the one. There isn't a whole lot that I do that it won't do well though I might have to adjust my approach a little bit. If I'm carrying a pack w/o a waist belt then the Ruger goes in a Bianchi "Lawman" 1L holster, otherwise in a Diamond D Outdoors nylon chest holster.
Truth be told, if I still had one, I like the stainless 5-1/2" barreled gun a little better .. slightly better balance at least as I perceive it.
Tom
.41 magnum pretty much any flavor……S&W 57/657/357PD, Ruger Redhawk/Blackhawk, Freedom Arms 97, or T/C Contender.
PennDog
for a morning hike in the forest, I usually carry a Model 63. Favorite CCW is hard to say, but I probably carry the CZ 75Dpcr 9MM more than anything else

Glock 19, Gen 5.
Favorite is some flavor of Springfield XD, big to small, depending on the need.
I could easily switch to this platform and not suffer. A range acquaintance has an XD .45 that I've shot a bit and I could use one like it and not look back
Colt Gov't model .45, tuned by my bud Justin McMillan. Does most of what I want these days. If I could have two, 2nd would be a K22.
Bob
Most favorite right now is probably my DW Bobtail 10mm Commander. It's about as unpractical as you can get, 40+ ozs. for 9 rounds. A fully loaded G20 with 15 rounds weighs less. I just like the way the thing looks and feels - though it is heavy. It seldom gets carried, more of a Sunday gun.
edc is a smith 37 38special
hunting my ruger srh 500 linebaugh
farm ruger security six 357 mag
4” Smith and Wesson Model 57.
A Kimber Pro Carry II for carry purposes and a Glock 19 with Streamlight light attached for at home. Oh, and a Ruger LC9 for in the pocket walking the property.
(And a Smith and Wesson 586-4 with smooth wood grips to look at.)
I bought this in 1973, since I still have it, i guess this is it.
1873 .45 LC Rio7
2's Better than 1 Rio7
Following my 11th orthopedic surgery I have mostly (but not completely) stopped hunting. I do a little small game and bird shooting, but my days of tromping canyons for elk are over. These days I'm 99% sport shooter only. So when I head to the range, I always have one or more of these revolvers with me.
Hard choice. Never thought of it before and hope it never gets to that but If I had to pick one for everything from the ones I own; concealed carry, home defense and range, Gen 3 Glock 19.
An old Argentine 1911A1 that I bought many years ago and rebuilt. Dead nuts reliable with bullets it likes, also about match accuracy. Only original parts are the frame and slide for the most part. Not pretty, bluing is beat up, but dang it works, and works well for myself.
Bill Grover Improved No.5 .44Mag.
Been shooting this one a lot lately. MK III Hi Power military contract, no FPS. Did some work to the sights and trigger and had it cerakoted. Best-shooting Hi Power I've ever owned. Could it be my fave? Well, Maybe...
Bob
It is just too hard to say which is the most favored. I have a few. Most of them are loved and sometimes for different reasons. I hope we all can have that dilemma for years to come. Be Well, RZ.
In a semiauto my choice is a Sig Sauer P226 9mm with .22 RF conversion and my favorite revolver is a S & W M/629 4".
2's Better than 1 Rio7
Nice!
Be hard for me to choose between a SAA and a 1911
Don’t have a favorite.
I have a few that I’d not part with.
Glock 17 and 20
STI Stacatto
Springfield Xd

This one is certainly a sentimental favorite...a 1901 Colt SAA rebuilt by Alan Harton. Fun to shoot, but definitely not too practical.
Bob

Very nice! Nickel M 19 or polished M 66?
What loads do you shoot with this gun? 38 Special, 357 Magnum? What bullet weight?
I'm thinking that is an early M66, having a stainless rear sight.
Super nice!
Right now my favorite is a Wilson Combat acp model commander in 9mm. Subject to change. Hasbeen
For PD a hot loaded Glock 24. For CCW and EDC a Kahr CM-9. For plinking a Ruger 45/22. Woods bumming a Kimber K6 Target.

Beauty! You could make it plenty practical, if that was what you had. I can't read the caliber. What is it?
ElmerKeith, That is a early 66, stainless.
For loads, I reload so for the last 20 years, 6gr of Unique and a 158 cast bullet.
Before that I would shoot a lot of that load and some 357 magnum 140-158 gr bullets.
It is still tight and shoots very well. The forcing cone is fine, hasn’t cracked. I have to think that it might be overblown, unless you really shoot an awful lot of magnum loads with light bullets.
To be honest, I don’t find shooting magnum, loads in a K frame, are that enjoyable.😁

It's marked "38 COLT", which is Colt-speak for .38 Special. The .38 Colt and Special have the same bore diameter, so Colt just used barrels marked 38 Colt until the 1930's, when they changed the marking to "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .38 SPECIAL". Good way for Colt to save a few bucks, and I got a cool barrel marking.
Alan's work is just incredible.
1st group, 25 yards with .38 factory wadcutters. A few swipes with a file by Alan and I was in the x-ring. Being that this is an older Colt, I only shoot wadcutters in it (plus I have a ton of them). I'll eventually try some .38 lead RN ball in it.

Thanks! Added another picture.

My S&W 25-13 Mountain Gun, 45 Colt, is my favorite.
Carry, S&W M&P Shield 9. Shooting, S&W M15, Commie CZ75, Taurus TX22. Knocking around, Ruger Super Single Six .22 Mag. Hunting, Ruger Blackhawk .41 Mag, Ruger Security Six .357 Mag.
Nothing makes me happier than my Series 70 Colt. But, if I chose a gun that I am most capable with overall, it would be the Sig P226. The DA/SA never bothered me.

You just need some proper .38 Short Colt ammo!
The Short Colt shoots pretty damned straight in a Model 19 too!

Hmmm...gonna have to try some!

Starline makes them and they are literally Starline .38 specials cut down.
When I could not get .38 specials for people I grabbed 3 K of these. They make a phenomenal J Frame target shooting setup. I am running a 125 grain at 850 and recoil is mild. The short 9mm length cases eject super fast and people love them. I have been selling them locally and while at first people were skeptical as they either were confusing them with .38 S&W or they thought the short cases would be an issue.
Once they try a box the lightbulb comes on and they realize that they make J frames actually FUN to shoot.
Light recoil and guys are saying that their wives finally like whatever gun it is that they initially bought for them and regular .38s were unpleasant. Kind of an unintended benefit. While trying to be resourceful and finding a .38 special substitute we ended up putting a bunch of guns back in circulation in the middle of an ammo crunch!
Been mailing them out through UPS a couple times a week!
Shown next to 9mms.
My friend made a comment on facebook after I sent her a couple boxes for her little J Frame she carries, and BAM she got pounced on like a coyote on a rabbit. Ended up mailing about a thousand rounds to her group.
That bucket shown in the previous post has 3K rounds in it.
Fun little things!
