Trying to determine how many members would be interested in a Remington Forum. Asked Rick about the possibility of a forum related to all things Big Green and he requested that I float the idea before the membership.
Thanks
This inquiry was also posted in the Hunter’s Campfire.
I would look at it and comment.
I own a number of Remington guns so would visit.
Yup, I’d give a look myself.
Those early 700’s are Classic rifles. I’d visit.
I up for it
Need a Sako forum too!
I am a Remington man from 1969!!!
Quite honestly, I am surprised there isn't one.
I've got 4 Remington center fire rifles and one shotgun and I'm one on here that takes up for Remington, even the latest models so you know I'm a die hard fan, yeah I'm in.
Yep, I would partake as all my customs have been built using Sendero II actions as donors and I still have some that are in factory form.
I would like to suggest a sticky regarding all the known ‘tweaks’ to factory Remington triggers, like spring replacement, trigger adjustment pre/post the X Mark Pro.
Cheers.
A Remington Forum sounds good to me. I'm pretty sure my first Remington was 1972. It was a 700 BDL Varmint gun in 22-250. Then a 742 in .308...... Not sure now many right now. Be Well, Rustyzipper.
would like it.... Remington has so much history and great guns.
Quite honestly, I am surprised there isn't one.
Me too..........yet there is a Savage one, and the only gun Savage has ever made that was worth a dime was the Model 99. The sheer number of Remington made firearms alone deserves a forum.
I would find a Remington forum very interesting. I am a huge fan, and think the model 700 and 870 are the finest hunting guns made. All of my centerfire rifles are 700s, and shotguns are 870 or 11-87s. I think it's a great idea!
I am a Winchester guy who look around and own 1 Winchester and many Remingtons. I think it is a good Idea!
Let's do it. Works for me.
To honor Campfire tradition, it has to be named the SUCKS Forum.
Having a "few" Remingtons myself...I'm in...

Back in the day when Talley LWs were the rage I ordered a set from Rick's Gear Shop. For gun make I put in SUCKS and got the right mounts. Where else could that happen?

THIS ^^^^^^ Why does Winny and Savage has theirs? Is there a time limit to number of responses, or a number of yes's needed?
Yes, and might as well add one for Tikka!
I love my 70’s and Kimbers, but confess, a few Remingtons found their way in the safe; not the only guilty one here...
So, another vote for the new forum.
i'd love one, i own a Remington 722 in 300 savage and i think we need a Remington forum where we could discuss remington firearms

Aren't bold handle and extractor threads best off in gunsmithing?
Love 700 KS and 700 AWR. I'd look.
I think it is a good idea.
If there were a Remington Forum here, I'd ask if anyone knows the barrel contour of their short-action 700 Ti models. Remington apparently doesn't answer e-mail questions like that.

Mountain rifle contour.
Edit - I’m presuming you are inquiring about a short action standard chambering in a gen 1 ti. Both SA and LA standard chambering gen 1 use a MR profile. The saums use the mag contour; as does the gen 2 (Alaska ti) with the addition of the flutes.
Thanks! As far as I know, it's a Gen 1; didn't realize they had gens... Mine is a .260 Rem. Haven't checked twist yet, but I'm guessing probably 1:8.

Gen 1 and 9 twist.
I’d be happier with a “rifle Action forum” to talk about the attributes & qualities of each action.

The two I measured were actually smaller diameter than the standard Mnt rifles I've checked. So were the limited run Mnt Guides, IIRC.
By all means. All that Big Green blather is clogging up the works for the rest of us. Maybe there's a sysop tool (perl?) that will automatically sift all the Remington posts into the proper receptacle.

Thanks, and rats. I'd been hoping for 1:8. Not to worry...

Aren't bold handle and extractor threads best off in gunsmithing?
A Problem, no....multiple problems.
Even to Ask about a Rem forum & the critics come crawling out.....
I’ve been using 700s. 760s, & Sixes starting in the 60-70s and I’ve have and have had
more 700s than any other Brand/Model than all the others.
TO date I have NOT had 1 problem period.
I’m tired of the copy cat, “heard about” etc, etc, and not I’m not interested in the tripe.
Carry on without me.

It’s fractional, but it’s there - you are correct.
@ the muzzle ...
LSS MR 260 0.56”
Mtn Guide 7/08 0.54”
G1 ti 7/08 0.54”
My .260 Ti is .558" at the muzzle.
Is the muzzle diameter the only measurement for determining "contour"? I'd not have thought so... and had no clue how to (where to) measure the way the barrel turns down ahead of the receiver...
-Chris
It'd probably be a good thing to have a dedicated Remington forum. You'd probably have fewer people stopping by for the joy of thread schidting. Of course moderating out those who can't help but perpetually douche things up would be a good option if we had moderators.

Jerry, before you came here there was a long thread about the different bolt action manufacturers. Long story short "Sucks" was a term of endearment we used for Remington 700's for a number of years.
I'll try to find it and post a link.

I measure for a living, so .020" is a mile to me.

I don't have one anymore, so can't give any other measurements.
There are many variables that go into "contour", but, right or wrong, muzzle diameter is what a lot of guys refer to.

No. It’s still very much the mountain rifle contour ... the barreled actions interchange in stocks with a mountain rifle channel, and it could simply be what day the barrels were made on, or by whom. It’s a damn tiny difference at the muzzle and I only measured one sample of each - your measurement is obviously the same as my LSS MR.
Just guessing here, but it may be the 1st gen TI's have a slightly lighter contour than the later TI's.

Absolutely. It’s more than slight. The 1st gen (2001-2006) has an entirely different contour than 2nd gen/Alaskan ti (2007-2009) - excepting the saums.
We are discussing seriously important gnats on poodle [bleep] differences here ...

He should be fully aware of the moniker as he posted in this thread not too long ago.

Probably have a Tikka forum before we have a Remington one.
Probably have a Tikka forum before we have a Remington one.
From a business standpoint, is a remington forum gonna draw in more readers then are already here, or just serve the established community ?
Would you then have to expand it to other specific brands,,,savage, henry, benelli forums or ?............My Prediction is it wont happen, regardless of the positive responses it has generated........
ps.... tikka forum in my mind now also !
when i keep looking for it
There is Savage and Winchester, why not Remington??
Yep, Savage Arms went bankrupt back in 1988 and Winchester also went bankrupt in 1989.

And Colt is about to run out of various chapters they've filed so many times.
Cerberus Capitol screwed Remington, not because they chose an improper twist for a new caliber. A lot of history & wins for Remington. Surprised the Rem forums don't do well.
I think with the volume of hunting arms Remington has manufactured, along with their history, a Remington forum is warranted. I'd venture to say they have contributed far more than Savage, nothing against Savage-they make fine hunting rifles as well. Many companies have had ups and downs through the years, and the last thing any of us should do is wish ill on any firearms manufacturers. We need to stick together and support each other. At the end of the day, the anti-gunners would love to see sportsman boycott any arms or ammunition company, the old divide and conquer method at work.I have heard Remington has made big improvements recently to quality. Hopefully they continue on that track and remain a strong contributor to the American sportsman, hunter and shooter. I have had very good success with 700s and 870s, and will continue to buy them.
Will it schit the bed like Remington?
We could combine it with H&R and Briggs&Stratton and call it the Scrap Iron Forum.
