Considering a Ruger American Predator .308 with an 18" threaded barrel specifically for deer/pig hunting where ranges will likely not exceed 200 yards.

This will not be a bench or bipod deal and handiness is a primary goal.

What would be a good choice for a direct screw-on can?
I've got way too many cans and IMO Tbac ultra 7 is what you want on a hunting bolt gun. The 1.7" diameter cans are a pinch quieter (nomad, dominus, etc) but you'll see them in the scope which drives me nuts. Avoid heavy "full auto rated" stuff as they'll kill your balance on a hunting rifle.
Yeah, I'm not looking for a spec ops can. Quiet is good. Light is good.

I'll check out the Tbac.
What’s your budget? There’s some $500-700 options these days that are lighter than options from 3-4 years ago.
I’ve got a Q full Nelson. Direct thread. My first, so nothing to compare it too.

I like it.

Ive got a CGS Hyperion waiting for approval.

When i bought it I’d narrowed it down to 3.

TBAC ultra 9, dead air Nomad LT, and the Hyperion.

The dead air is actually a KGM made can.

The TBAC guy says the Hyperion is a quieter can, so i went with it.

Bauer precision was runnning a 10% sale, and had it in stock.
Added,

I shoot it on a 6.5 cm and 6.5 prc.

No budget, really, but I expect to pay more than the $599 MSRP of the rifle.
The SilencerCo Harvester Evo is a great option for what you are looking for. As is the Dead Air Nomad.
I’ve also got a Hyperion waiting for the paperwork. I shot my buddy’s on a 6.5creed, 25-06 and 300PRC next to my other buddy’s suppressor ( can’t remember the model, but 5-6 years ago it was “top of the line”) and the Hyperion was waaay easier on the ears. We shot it out of my garage and it was very quiet.

^This. I don't even know how many I own now. They are very light, very accurate, the machining is so consistent you can juggle different cans and mounts and not get a POI shift.

I have one Dominus, it's nice, though kind of fat and ugly. A 7" Ultra is what you want.
There's two ways to go here-

1.) Get the quietest possible can and sit around and ooh and ahh over how it sounds.

2.) Get something that doesn't suck to use.

On a bench gun, those might be the same thing, but on a field rifle something like the 13" Hyperion is of little interest to me.

I want the smallest lightest can that I can safely use for 1-3 shots in a hunting scenario without hearing damage. I'm fine running ear pro at the range, as that's usually a necessity due to others or supersonic crack anyhow.

For reference I have the Nomad L which is essentially tied with the Hyperion decibel-wise depending on which day it was tested.

Yeah, it's quiet but I still wear light hearing protection just for the bullet crack when I'm shooting groups. It balances fine on a 16" rem varmint in a krg bravo but that's a 12-13 pound rig with bipod and dmr 3-21.

On a Sporter rifle you want the ultra 7 if not the ultra 5. AB suppressors has some cool reflex designs that are light weight titanium cans. I want their 4 baffle model for a shorty 22 creed Montana.

If I could only have 2 cans for rifles I'd have an oss for all my gas guns and a tbac ultra 7 for the bolt actions. That's after spending a couple grand on tax stamps alone.
I only have one suppressor for centerfire right now and it's the Silencer Co Omega 300. I like it alot, it does everything I need a suppressor to do. It does add about 1 lb of weight to the barrel, but I've lost that much chopping barrels down on some of the rifles to keep my barrel and suppressor length under 26".

Also I never see my suppressor in my scope. Most of my hunting scopes start around 2.5X to 3.5X and I never see the suppressor on the low end. I do see it in my red dot on my .300 Blk AR, but it disappears as soon as I use the 3X magnifier for longer shots.

I do think the TBAC suppressor are probably some of the best you can buy if not the best from research I did prior to my purchase. I actually wanted a YHM Resonator when I made my first purchase, but got a good price on the Omega and it was on my list of options. I got my Omega 300 and a Sparrow for about $200 more than I could purchase an Ultra 7 for at that time.
I have a Rugged Razor 7.62 that I use on my .308, two different .243's, and on an AR-15 in .223 (with the .223 endcap).

I have a Dead Air Nomad L it is direct thread 8.4". No Barrel length restrictions. It is heavy compared to some but it is quiet. I've used it on 6.5G 12" to 20", 6.5CM 20", .308 18"-20", 556 10"-18" with no issues at all. I am to the point my non threaded rifles don't get to come out and play anymore. While you are waiting on your stamp to be approved you may as well get a .22LR can as well.

Two great choices.

Got one. Silencerco Sparrow on a CZ 455 threaded barrel. With RWS subsonic HP, it is spooky accurate and quiet.
Looks like Thunderbeast is having trouble keeping up with demand. All out of stock at Silencer Shop.

That's been a pretty consistent issue with TBAC. Great product though.

FWIW, LGS chatter.

Guy beyond counter told me TBAC was having cans made by KGM.

Dead cans are made by KGM. . Serial number is KGM-xxxx

Next on my list of the KGM r6.5.
Added.

The Hyperion is listed as 9.5”. Not 13”.

KGM R30 looks interesting.
Just curious how well the ports work on the Kgm can vs increases in noise.

Watched the videos, but a video is a video.

Someone on here is waiting on one i believe.

I own 3...

The day I ordered... Cory lasered the S/N on the tube for the NFA "Stamp"...

90 days later (might have even been less)... in hand.

I also have 3 Thunderbeasts... I hate them regarding cleaning... same with a Bowers.
Cash, tell me a little more about the Lane. I haven't come across them before.
I'm sure there a lots of good ones. I'm very please with the YHM Resonator, and lately the Resonator K that I put on my 18" 7mm08. Great prices, great service. Check 'em out.
I just took possession of my harvester evo this week and im happy with it on a 20" ridgeline 308
Just got back from my LGS.

They had a Harvester Evo in stock and the staff, who I've dealt with before and like, agreed that for what I was looking to do with it, this suppressor would suit my needs very well. I couldn't argue with the price.

Wish I'd started this a year ago. They said they're seeing wait times of 180-200 days.

So I paid them the money.

Thanks for all the good info, guys.
180-200 with E-file?

Dang.

I filed mine in June, then in was ~110 days wait.
That's what they were saying. 110 days would be more better. I talked with the hardware guys. The guy who keeps track of all the paper work won't be in until early next week. He'll have a better idea.

Great choice. I have an original Harvester and it spends its time between two of my hunting rifles. I like it a lot. I will pick up an EVO as soon as the wait times come back down to what I can stomach. So far I haven't had to wait more than 4 months for any of my suppressors.

Just a great small business in South Dakota... pick up the phone and call them anytime. They will answer any question anytime. Free service/cleanings... drop ship you O rings if you ask/clean your own cans. Below market cost on a superior product.

Backstory... Tycen was my FFL/SOT back in the day... also a great personal friend. He, Chris and I were shooting one day... Chris hands me his .300 Weatherby and tells me to curl up on the bench and light off a few. FUGG NO... Chris hotrods the hell out of every round. I stand up and pop one off... YEPP a monster load for sure... Then he screws on the Lane Magnum Scorpion and tells me to try it again...

DAMN... .308 grade recoil.

I turned to Tycen and started to speak... no need... "I'll put in the order as soon as we head back..."

That .300 Bee load is kinda secret because it is about 20% over max...

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

And my .308 loads...

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Then I bought a .458 can

I then had Cory make me a custom can for my 9,3M...

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

His cans do not disturb accuracy for me...

Watch The videos in the link I put up...

Just great stuff from great people...
IMHO... a great value also. No middlemen.

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

I bought the Ti tube over SS core... Cory said if I wanted to upgrade to all Ti... "No problem Leonard... actual cost."
Lane makes a good product - a local GS sells a pant load of them.
I almost went with their Scorpion 6.5 with one of the most recent cans but the flexibility of easily swapping out the direct thread mounts for different thread pitch (I don't fancy ASR mounts) has kept me in SilencerCo stuff (though they're not the only ones that offer that flexibility).

Got one in jail. 230+ days on an eForm 4 Trust . . . . . . cry
Dead Air Nomad on mine.

Definitely go light and short, of my .30 cal cans, my Nomad TI is my favorite because of the combo of lightweight, performance and length. I also like my steel Nomad and Liberty Sovereign, but would get the Ti over either for hunting and LR.

I'll probably buy another Ti hunting can so I don't have to swap as much, looking at either the Other Creek Hydrogen K or Diligent Defense Enticer S. Both metered well for their size in the Pew Science testing for their size and are very light.

The TBAC Ultras are great, but then you're stuck with their mounting system or DT. These days I prefer something with the standard "Hub" rear thread format so I can use DT or any taper or QD system I might want.

I did an efile in May, lgs told me they are finally seeing march's come back, hearing same reports from others also, so hopefully another two months or so.

Just got my omega 300 approved from last December, one of those things, pay the money and forget about it. It was all worth it when i took my 300bo ruger ranch out the other day. Just picked up a bergara ridge 708 threaded to try it out on also.
Tagged.
I'd go with a short can. I've had a Silencerco Omega since about 2015 and it has worked well for me. If buying another, I'd give Thunder Beast a look for sure.
Sandman S, Griffen Dual Lok 7 and Omega 300 are on my short list so far.

7.62 and QD for versatility.

Be used on an AR in 223 and maybe a 6 ARC.

Possibility of use on a bolt 223 and 7-08 as well for now unless I dedicate it to the AR in 223. And just buy a different suppressor for the bolt actions.

Other suggestions for the AR to start with?
My only above .223 caliber rifle suppressor is a Dead Air Nomad but I’d definitely recommend it. It’s a nice balance of quiet, reasonably lightweight, and durable. A good general purpose “do all” centerfire rife suppressor IMO.

Thanks for jumping right on this, John, but as I said on October 29, up-thread, I bought a can.
