What all colors of webbing did you use on the green rifle? Have my Mauser stock already painted in the same green, just haven't had time to shoot the webbing yet. My ridle is Cerakoted Sniper Gray .35 whelen.

FWIW I've used Painter's Choice matte clear on some.
Stinky stuff, adds some shine back (if going over flat paint).
Several coats.

My tiger stripe rifle years later, still looks like a fresh paintjob.

It is black over silver on the webbing. The AH2 also tends to mute the silver just a bit when it all dries, so the silver isn't quite so loud.

These rifles got the same paint treatment, using colors my daughters picked out. The blue one is a little flashy, because Daughter #2 wanted a glossier blue. The burgundy is satin burgundy Fusion.

She's been toting that red rifle for 7-8 years now. Still holding up.

What's the best webbing product and where do you get it?

I've used only the Krylon webbing spray, which they now call Marbelizing spray. I believe I've found some at craft stores in the past but ordered from Amazon last time. Different cans can spray different patterns, so a bit of practice on cardboard right before application can help.

I'm gonna try that on an ongoing project. I had ordered flat black AH-II, but it was on BO. I called Brownells and had them cancel the BO and send in stock matte, clear AH-II which will be here in a week, UPS ground.

Now, I've got to decide on background and webbing color. The stock is now black, so may do black background with brown webbing. Then hit it with clear matte AH-II.

And, as you know, you must let that stuff cure for several days. When it's cured, you have one tough finish. Can't rush it.

Thanks for the post and the ideas. Timing was perfect.

All those rifles look darn good.

jPro,

I followed your lead, but ended up with a different end point. I used OD for background, which doesn't give as much contrast. Then I got carried away with marbling, Ended up with something that looks more like granite than marble... shocked

Sorta different. It's growing one me. Was my first such project. I did top it off with three light coats of clear matte Aluma-Hyde. I cured it for several days, hanging in my hot garage with a fan blowing on it.

This is my latest, an FN Mauser 338-06 in early B&C stock that I picked up here on the Classifieds..

Dirtfarmer,

That looks pretty good! The webbing spray can be tricky to get right, but there's really no wrong way about it with those colors.

Your's look better. This one is "different", but unique in its own way. It doesn't look like someone was trying to get a marble finish.

Maybe next one I do will look more like yours. That clear matte Aluma-Hyde II is some tough stuff. It needs to cure for several days, as you know.

Thanks for the inspiration. Your work looks great. Keep posting pictures.

DF try to use similar colors of web spray. I like a gray and a black for a more subtle effect. Some of mine have light gray, medium gray and then black. The closer colors seem to cover mistake easier. That Aluma Hide looks a little glossy (to me). I assume it is enhanced by the lighting or camera flash. If you want to take some shine off an easy way to do it is to put pumice on a shoe brush and brush vigorously in a random pattern. If this is too dull then go over it again with rotten stone or just wax and use minimal buffing.

I like the subtle effect of yours. I also like the girls "designer" colors, makes the rifle more personal.

The matte AH-II does have some sheen, probably enhanced by the camera. It doesn't seem too glossy for me, could always cut it down a bit.
