Horrible. Oddly enough, he seems to act like business as usual. Tough critter. Figure infection will set in if something or someone doesn't get him first.

My son just showed me that about 5 minutes ago. He was thinking maybe he ripped it open going under a barbed wire fence. My first thought was he got run over by a truck or something. Either way, it's pretty knarly. It's pretty amazing how tough they are.

If it could be avoided, no farmer would hit a deer with a head because of the potential costs in terms of damaged equipment and down time. Whenever I've seen deer from the cab of a combine while cutting corn they will just move far enough to the left or right to avoid the head and watch the combine go by. They will stay in the corn as long as possible and will often run out of the end of the last rows being cut before moving on to better cover.
That is a horrible injury, surprising that the deer is still getting by as well as he appears to be.

Poachers shot and left a deer in the neighbors wheat field. The dead deer got caught in his combine and I believe did $40,000 in damage.

Ouch, that's some down time there. Poor deer, probably lovestruck and not paying attention. Too bad, not a fun way to go I'd imagine

Years ago my dad was opening up a wheat field and ran a fawn through the combine. That was a mess.
