Finn and JB are probably the two most practical hunters and shooters. Period.

It was this article that prompted me to buy a scout rifle, a Savage Model 10, with a 2.5x Leupold scope scout on top. It is one of my favorite rifles.

My favorite of his was an article in American Rifleman obout his old .375. He documented every shot he put through that rifle!

Shootinurse, I agree, but think I'd add Phil Shoemaker and Brian Pearce to that list

Very cool. For you Finn fans there is an CD out there where Finn tells stories about his life/hunting experiences. It is a great listen. I cannot remember the name of it, but believe I bought from Safari Press few years ago

Always enjoyed his stuff, and can't argue with using a .308. My freezer has been filled with elk a whole bunch of times, after using one in the field.
They just work.

I always appreciated his writing.
Come to think of it, I have appreciated the work of just about all of the gunwriters.

Finns and Coopers writings led me to buy my son a Steyr Scout which he loved. He won it from me in a shooting comp where I hit a steel rabbit at 25m with my 22rf and turned it side on, leaving a target about 1/4” wide. He said I bet you can’t knock it over, I said I bet I can, how much you want to bet? He said a Steyr Scout!
Ok, I shot, hit that damn rabbit but knew it was never going to fall over 😉

Thanks, Brad. This just happens to be my favorite of Finn's articles.
Some shooting knowledge: Don't stand in front of the muzzle. Some hunting knowledge: Too much noise ruins the hunt.

I have a book called "Finn Aagaard, Select Works". It has this article and many others. Excellent book. Miss Finn's writing and wisdom.

Thanks for posting these articles. I am reminded of how many of the suggestions Finn made, the standards he used in evaluating items and his suggestions for improvement stuck with me.
The include a GSR in .308, a LW '06, a ed wt '06, a .338, and many more. I still use mostly 2.5-8 or 2-7 Leupolds and Nosler Partitions as well.
What a great guy.
