I'm all about shooting pretty rifles.

Good thing we aren't on a shotgun thread, rumor has it some on here use those plastic Russian made autoloaders.

Kind of partial to the one on the right, a #1 in .280 Rem. Waited a long time for a #1 and couldn't pass this one up. Gently used, priced very right, Moyer trigger, nickel or chrome plate, not sure which and don't care. Shoots very well.

The other one is my first centerfire rifle, a Ruger M77 in 7mm RM. It was my only big game legal bolt rifle for 20+ years. Took a lot of animals, from prairie dogs and coyotes to antelope, deer and elk.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I remember reading something about you paper patching (or was it "bumping" with faster powder) some .308 Partitions to make that work.

She is a beauty job you did on that fine warhorse. The old Enfield is a working rifle, and you put it in best dress.

Actually I didnt need to do a thing except exchange my .312 expander ball for a .308 ball. The .308 diameter bullets shot very well indeed out of that rifle, and got the velocities they were supposed to....and you are right, 180 Noslers were the order of the day...

( FWIW I tried .308 diameter bullets in a couple other enfields...results were dismal...)

Yep - beauts no doubts.

I've had a few 1s but not THE one I really want.

I have a GREAT appreciation for the #1 and some have fantastic wood on them.

Here is a pretty poor picture of me with one of my favorite rifles right after it took this young buck. It is a J Garner flintlock in 54 cal.

Fellow Campfire Folks;
With apologies to those who've seen these photos before - in the spirit of this thread.

This is what I consider one of the better looking rifles in the safe, but more important than that I built it to fit me so it does that fairly well.
[Linked Image]

It's started life as a Liberty Model 77 in .338 and is currently on it's 3rd stock and 2nd barrel - now as a .308 Norma. Somewhere along the way it sorta became a bit of a "lucky rifle" for me.

It was in my hands the morning I shot my first Okanagan bull moose.
[Linked Image]

While I originally built it for chasing local mulies in the steep country in the feeder creeks, somehow it's been along when I've run into local whitetail on several occasions including my best one ever.
[Linked Image]

Anyway, it's not the prettiest gun I've ever built, but I think it looks OK and it does get afield from time to time enough to show it still works just fine.

All the best to you all and especially to our American friends this Memorial Day weekend.

Regards,
Dwayne
