I've been running this bullet for all of my rifle hunting this year and have been fairly impressed so far. Between my brother and I, we've shot 7 whitetails from 80 to 270 yards and all have yielded good results. Here is what remains of the bullet I found: It's just the jacket, which weighs 68.7gr for about 41% weight retention. I guess JB was right when he said that some of the big-game BT's had a significant portion of their weight in the jacket alone. I'd imagine the 168gr version to be about 50% jacket by weight. This particular one was cut from the bulging hide on a whitetail doe I shot yesterday. There were pieces of lead around the bullet that I did not recover to weigh. She just about got away from me, but I hit her far back in the paunch and angled the bullet through the vitals and part of the way up the neck. She was maybe 80 yards away and folded at the shot, only to try to get back up with no front running gear. I don't let them flop and flounce, so I put another into the neck just below the skull. I've yet to run this bullet into a lot of bone, but it has worked nicely so far with good exits approaching golf-ball size. Blood trails have been very good. One deer I took was almost facing me at the shot, with an entrance just inside the onside shoulder and an exit at the rear of the lungs. I've never seen such a blood trail. Several folks have commented on the exit holes when I brought deer to the skinning shed. In summary, if you are looking for a reasonably-priced and accurate cup/core bullet of decent BC (.490), the 168 BT may be a good choice at reasonable velocities. I'm going to keep using it.

trying to decide what to use in my new 308 and this is in contention:
130 TTSX 168 NBT 175 VLD 155 VLD
what powder are you using? what velocity? barrel length? accuracy?

I switched to the 130 TTSX in mine. Shoots very flat and accurate in my Ruger over 4895. Only killed 2 deer this year with it but both dropped where they were.

Are you inferring that it might be time for him to schitt or get off the pot? (grin)
SAKO75, that load is making 2,630fps from a 20" factory Remington barrel with moly, W-W brass, and Varget. I think I am 3-4 tenths of a grain over the load on the side of the powder canister, as the moly brings the pressure down a bit. It is a comfortable load.
I like trying a few new bullets each year, just to keep things interesting. Loading for myself, my father, and my brother gives me the opportunity to see results on quite a few animals each year. I just hand them their rifle and some ammo and say "hunt this". The .308win is easy, as most .30cal bullets are more than enough for our whitetails. Just pick one and roll with it.

WW brass, CCI 200 or BR2, Varget (usually 46 grains) and a 165/168 BT has worked quite well in every 308 I've tried.
