I have a pair of Minox 6.5 IF, great binos. Deep woods to open fields so easy to use and great depth of field. If really long range then perhaps more magnification. For me the perfect compromise.

I usually choose between 8x32 or 10x50 Pentax DCF SP depending on big or small, open/longer range stand location vs in the woods.

8x is probably a good all round choice. for me it is also the max
power i can use without resting my elbows on something.
for strictly close woods hunting id be leaning toward 6x.
i have several sets of minox and they are very good. on the heavy side however. my favorite is an old 8x35 bausch&lomb zepher model i was lucky to find in mint condition on ebay. i paid $135 for them. i wouldnt hesitate to be looking there for good glasses. just remember one size wont fit all uses at least not properly. if your going to be using the higher powers put them on a tripod or a support of some kind. a shooting/walking stick works well for my 15x. otherwise there will be too much movement for clear viewing.

I'm currently using a Nikon 10x40 binocular that is lighter and smaller that the Nikon 10x50s I carried for years.

after carrying 42's for years....i tried the vortex 6x32's and swaro EL 8x32's....the swaro have a much larger apparent FOV as they are 420' @ 1000, the same as the 6x vortex...this does make a difference considering you see the exact same FOV but 2x closer...plus the open bridge, and smooth focus wheel make the 32mm el's the easiest binos to use one handed....

Hi 338,

I have just received mine! Great 8x32 binoculars, indeed! I also have a Zeiss Victory Fl 10x42 and a Swarovski Habicht (Porro) 10x40 W GA. The Meopta Meostar 8x32 is in the same league!!

Good Hunting!

Depends on what I'm hunting, how I'm hunting and where I'm hunting.
For all around use, particularly if carried around the neck all day, my 8X32 Nikon LX gets the nod. But for casual glassing, checking the area quickly while on the move, particularly if packing a spotting scope or a much larger, more powerful binocular, I often carry either my 6X30 Leupold Yosemite or my 6X32 Leupold Katmai. Go 6x to 8x, and stay in the 32-36mm objective range, and you'll be in the berries.

Damara is spot on. I carried a Vortex 6x in Ak. last summer my partner was spotting all the game with a 10x40, I felt like a novice, he had to point out all the game granted it was mid to long distance. The 6x's are excellent for east coast, forrested/dark cover area. Otherwise go to 8x they do make a difference in spotting game in open country and they still work in close cover. You get to maintain a large field of view and depth of field which you start losing when you jump up to 10x or more.

I have been using the same 7x binocular since the early 1980's: a Leitz (now Lica) 7x35 that has a 450 meter FOV. They are as good now as when I bought them, and I have never handled a binocular I have liked better. Hopefully, I will never have to replace them!

To all,

Quite a few of us, including myself, mention wanting 'regular' magnification and a higher power and perhaps carrying 'them' somehow.

Now I can see why I bought the Switch Power binocs. and why Mule Deer did before me!

I like the idea of a switch power for a couple of situations but would prefer them to be a 42 mil.

An awesome combo they are.

I used to have a set of 10x42 SLC's but they hardly ever got used so I sold em.
