My shooting partner has a quantity of MR3100. To the eye and nose, it is in very good shape. The only data that I can find is for the more "modern" AA3100. Is there anything that we need to know about the MR generation compared to the AA generation? Thanks in advance, John

Same stuff. If you don't like it just send it to me. About 1981, 3 of us bought 8# jugs of it for $25 shipped. Wish I would have bought a ton of it. I think the burn rate is between H and IMR

I have 8# of the MR 3100 from what I was able to find is that its burn rate is slightly faster than IMR 4831 in my experience. I contacted AA and Ram Shot they had no information on it. My LW 270 shoots under 1" @ 200 yards with it with 130 gr & 150 gr bullets. with the groups next to each other! Seems to its best at max pressure in my rifle.

I believe it stood for Military Rifle 3100

I also bought an 8 lb of jug MR-3100 back in the early '80's and found my lot was very similiar to IMR-4831. I beleive my lot would be faster than the published data I have seen for the newer AA3100. I have a data sheet from Bob Hagel with some loads stashed in a reloading manual I could pull out tonight.

Wish I could still buy 8 lbs of powder for $30.....

Would be interested in data for .30-06 (165 and 180), 6.5X55 (140), and 7-08 (140 amd 150) if it isn't a great deal of trouble.

My jug is labeled as MR-3100 with "Magnum Rifle" in parantehsis (I think), on the label so Hagel's data was limited to some magnum calibers and maybe the -06. I know that -08 data wasn't listed. I will pull the data out for you tonight and post all I have.

And I always thought it was the company name "Magnum Research" that produced the MR.

I absolutely love MR3100 for most larger capacity cartridges and have shot a bunch of it. It often produces the greatest velocities for me in '06 family cases with heavier bullets.

I am fortunate to have bought a number of 8# jugs...

The lot I received in 1978 produced the same velocity as original H-4831 in both 7x57 and .30'06. You'll run out of room before any pressure problems in either of those cases.

Went and dug out my 80's era Accurate data manual that was published while they were still in Tennessee. Looking at various cartridges data found the 30-06 to be very strange. 3100 was listed as not recommended until the 150 gr. bullet weight with a 59.0 max listed and quite low vel of 2610. What the strange part was they showed the same 59.0 as a max load clear up through the 220 gr bullet. A full case I guess.
In their powder discription section they say the burn rate fell between H4831 & IMR 4831.
