Resilience to what? Not ever being harvested for timber again? Resilience to hunting? Because those 2 activities will never happen on that land again.

I really can't even begin to understand how they believe this is going to be more resiliant to climate change than the 4+ million acres of industrial forest to the northwest of this new sanctuary.

The people up there don't want it. This is not the fix to the area economy that people think it will be. There was a meeting held here at the University of Maine a few months back with the NPS director. The liberals literally bussed hundreds of supporters up from Southern maine to drown out the local opposition. I was there, pathetic.

This park needs 10% of Acadia National Park visitors to be deemed sustainable. Acadia averages 2.5m a year. So this place needs 250k. Baxter State Park right next door to this land (I mean literally abutting this parcel) averages 63k visitors a year. Baxter has the mountains and views. A lot more recreational opportunities to boot. This place is flat timberland with a river running through it. Really that's it. What is the draw of that? Being able to look at Baxter park from afar?

With this park is eventually going to come development to support visitors as the local conditions now couldn't handle it. That's something Northen Maine doesn't really want or need. So yeah great you set aside 87k acres of woods to eventually develop the land around it.

Ask yourself what if this happened in your region. How would you feel then.

I visited Maine for the first time this year and it is a beautiful, diverse state. I have been following this on a Maine friend's Facebook page and the "discussion" has been very heated at times. One question that never seems to be asked or answered is; Was the land open for hunting and timber harvest by the previous owner that donated the land?

30,000 acres were open to hunting. About 14,000 for snowmobiling. The previous owner did not allow bear hunting with bait or hounds or any trapping.

Before moonbat [bleep] Quimby bought the land, it was open to all hunting and recreation and there were sporting camps on the land. That said, she never ever hid from the fact that she was buying the land to make it a National Park.
