My choice for King of the ' 30 Caliber Magnum's ' would have to be the ' 300 Remington Ultra Magnum '
My Rifle of choice for this Cartridge is the ' Remington 700 Long Range '
It has a 26" Heavy Barrel and can launch any size bullet that you can feed it .
My latest Load for it is the :
….. Hornady 200gr. ELD-X
….. 93gr. Retumbo
….. 3,100fps.+
….. 0.626 B.C.
With incredible Accuracy, Ballistics and Energy at point of Impact.

Yes, the 300 RUM is a real nice small/ medium bore cartridge! wink

I have used it with the 150 (it was a custom, bonded bullet some guy in California made...they were bombs!) , 180PT and 200 NAB, all in 24-26" barrels. Its got to be one of the easiest 300 Mags I ever worked up loads for, same with the 7mm & 338 RUMS, like them all. I just don't hunt where I have to shoot game over 350yd anymore. I don't have them anymore ( well, I gave one to my SIL that I can use whenever I want).

Have always enjoyed and consider the 30-06 as King of any 30 calibers, magnums included.

My Remington 700 LR - 300 RUM Rifle has become my favorite Benchrest Rifle for working up and testing a variety of reloads for all ranges.
I only hunt Predators anymore ( Mountain Lions , Bears and Wild Boars ) if necessary with my Remington 750 - 30-06 Rifle
and occasionally Wild Turkeys with my 12 gauge Shotgun.

My latest reloads are :

- 300 Remington Ultra Magnum's

...… 150gr, FMJ-BT
.…. 83gr - H4831sc
…... 3,000 fps. - .398 B.C.

.….. 165gr. SST
…… 81gr. - H4831sc
…… 3,000 fps - .447 B.C.

…... 180gr. SST
…… 82.6gr - H4831sc
…... 3,000 fps - .480 B.C.

…… 200gr. ELD-X
…… 89.5gr - Retumbo
…… 3,000 fps - .626 B.C.

The next Loads I'm planning on doing will be the 178gr. ELD-X and the 225gr ELD-Match

Actually, it was a bit “tongue in cheek”! But, I do think that big game cartridges start with a .308 and go up from there! I once considered a 30-404, before Remington made it a 300 RUM! If I were regulated to a 30 cal......the RUM, would likely be it! memtb

Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, 180 grain. Old Jack Carter recipe, not the new Federal variety....not that there’s anything wrong with Federal’s TBBC.

Nice, sounds like a great rig, I was in the process of gathering parts and about to send a check for a "Wildcat 30 cal King" build, a 30-338 Lapua AI, it would chunk 230gr Bergers 3300 fps.
