Just received a new McM Classic swirly from McM. The inletting is pretty near perfect without peer. The rest of the stock looks awesome, McM did a great job!

The QC is superb, these are the good ole days!

Btw, this Classic only weighs 25oz less pad (can you say KS fill?).

What color? Cannot tell anyone yet but its mild (compared to Steelhead's brood) cry cry grin

Kudos to Dick Davis! He is the man at McMillan Fiberglass Stock Co! cool cool cool

Is there a difference in "KS fill" & "Light as possible for caliber"?

That's what I spec'd on an open order on a Compact model.

That is less pad where as the Edge includes the pad in it's 22 oz. weight. Anyhow good to hear about the top notch work. When did you order yours?

Ordered it around Sept 18, 2006 IIRC.

A 1" Decelerator usually adds about 3-4 oz, depends on how much goop you use for the backing.

Its the same fill McM used when building Rem's KS custom rifle stocks. Very light fill, although Edge technology will beat it weightwise.

For a liteweight swirly, KS fill is the way to go.

A 1" Decelerator is on the heavy side. With a lighter pad, you're looking at about 27 oz! WOW! If Dick could just make that happen every time I'd have to place an order!

I guess I didn't see "less pad" maybe Stacy added that....
Still NICE. I too have ordered with "light fill as possible" Now I know the secret code words. KS FILL.
Someone ring up Dick and find out. Mine was order Nov 6 or so, should be in the mill....

If you search the phrase "KS fill" you may find the thread from a while back where Dick explained the differences. Supposedly, KS Remington fill is lighter than McMillan prefers to use as compared to "light as possible for caliber". This was originally done to satisfy Remington's specs for the custom shop stocks. I remember some members chiming in that their painted KS filled stocks were a good bit under 30 oz with pads. I may be wrong, but I think this is how it goes from lightest to heaviest: Graphite Edge construction, fiberglass KS fill, fiberglass light as possible for caliber fill, fiberglass standard sporter fill, fiberglass Weatherby fill, fiberglass sniper fill, fiberglass solid fill. Some of these may be duplicate terms, I don't know. I have heard that the KS fiberglass is not quite as stiff as the heavier filled models. It is all there, back in the archives, if you want to hunt for it.

i think alot also comes down to how lucky you get. these things are hand make where different amonts and types of fiberglass are added and the resin, so maybe you get luck once in while with different fill weight depending on who made the stock and how much materail they added that day, i have had classics ordered light filled vary by several oz's.
